A beginning which commences with the literal and metaphorical annihilation of Doubt in order that we proceed with boldness and freedom. Sound design by David McGorlick. An exploration of human innocence. Inspired by mime, dance, German Expressionism and our own imaginations, this piece aims to question and deconstruct the barriers that are built around children as they develop. Those that inhibit them from being their creative, imaginative selves and force them into rigid, socially accepted patterns of behaviour. What would happen if these barriers are torn away? Is the result a liberated and open human being or something primal and twisted? High Society \Mon 12, 6:10pm and 8:10pm @The Helix %$5 Tue 13, 6:10pm and 8:10pm|(45 mins) Directed by Jason Drake. An evening of sultry tunes, sexy dance breaks and dynamic shapes cut into the space like so many stray chickens. The first two rows may get wet, with tears of joy and laughter. Am I offensive? Try me. I Am Offensive is a humorous insight into notions of hyper-sensitivity in the theatre and wider world. Written and considered with great care (I’m quite serious) to create a piece of work that is conceptually sound. What I’m trying to say is – it’s not just me being offensive, it has a very solid point. In One Ear \Wed 14, 6:30pm–8pm|Fri 16, 8:30pm–9:30pm Mon 19, 5:30pm–7pm|Tue 20, 6pm–7:30pm|(5 mins) @miniMUST %$2 to the miniMUST operator—No bookings, queue only. Created by Tess Chappell. Melbourne in Lights \Throughout the festival @The HUB %Free Photography by Catiray Poiani-Cordella. Melbourne in Lights explores city life in a unique and dynamic way. Papa G and The Starcats \Wed 7, 8pm|Thu 8, 8pm|Wed 14, 8pm|Thu 15, 8pm|(1 hour) @The HUB %Free Papa G and The Starcats are a new-age funk and soul band straight outta the ghetto of the Monash Uni music course. One particularly funky Wednesday, some cool cats happened to be in close proximity of each other, instruments in hand. On this day, there was a groove that needed playing. Some say they spent seven months in a music-induced coma getting sustenance from maccas runs, and some say James Brown was divinely involved, helping them fine tune their funkiness. Whatever the true story is, it’s not known to mere mortals. Rest assured that when Papa G counts in, The Starcats will surely funk shit up. Rocky Horror Picture Show Night \Sat 3, 6:30pm–11pm (doors open from 6pm) @The HUB %$5–No pre-bookings Hosted by Nick Fry. I would like—if I may—to take you on a strange journey. It seemed a fairly ordinary night when Brad Majors and his fiancée Janet Weiss... two ordinary, healthy kids... left Denton to visit a Dr. Everett Scott, ex-tutor, and now friend to them both. It’s true there were dark storm clouds: heavy, black and pendulous. It’s true also that the spare tyre they were carrying was badly in need of some air—but they being normal kids and on a night out… It was a night out they were to remember for a very long time. This Container Festival, The Rocky Horror Picture Show will be played on the big screen. Dress up, slip into those size 11 heels, bring your newspapers and stale toast, because we are doing this baby to the tee. Prizes will be awarded throughout the night for those of you with the true heart of a Transylvanian. SALT \Mon 12, 9:20pm|Tue 20, 6:30pm|(15 mins) @The Helix %$5 Created and performed by Anna Burley. Using his uniquely affable style of comedy, Max will explore romance, happiness, and what it truly means to love yourself, even as you self-medicate with anti-depressants. Serenading You from the Piano \Mon 5, 7pm|Mon 12, 7pm|(30 mins) @The Garland %$5 Sophie Jevons and Bec Whiting present a cabaret with a twist: instead of a conventional cabaret performance, one girl sings the vocals while the other sings the part of the piano.
