The acquisition expanded the breadth of the ERNI product line offering by adding modular jacks and I/O port connectors to the standard telecom and datacom products already being marketed throughout the Globe. Maxconn has been known worldwide for their economical modular jacks and I/O components. With the integration of Maxconn into the ERNI product line, this provides the customer with additional application technologies and forwardlooking solutions that are required in today’s market. Modular Jack connectors, a cornerstone in communication connection, have been in the Telecom and Ethernet industries for many years. This is primarily due to the simplicity and reliability of the product design. Whether used in a simple telephony system or a gigabit application, “mod jacks” are the standard for network connectivity. Today’s increased speeds of data transmission and need for smaller package dimensions have driven this connector to evolve into an active member of the design. The integration of LED indicators and magnetic filters into the RJ45 (Modular Jack) have extended the lifetime and value of this important connector as well as conserving printed circuit board (PCB) real estate in today’s cost conscientious era. ERNI modular jacks have proven experience in providing high quality product solutions for specific engineered requirements. Integrated magnetic filters are specific for the needs of a given circuit design and are available for ISDN through Gigabit. These will significantly decrease the emissions of the system by integrating the magnetic filters into the connector that are normally on the PCB. Additionally, this fits the same dimensions as the standard Modular Jack package. It was never intended to be relegated to a single transport medium i.e. copper cables, fiber cables or radio waves. However since its deployment the cable of choice is UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) and the connector of choice is the modjack. The ubiquitous RJ45, 8 position form factor “phone jack” has become the default interconnect for copper implemented Ethernet connectivity. The signal definition is found in the EIA / TIA 568B specification. Similarly the standard 6 position phone jack has been incorporated into many wiring schemes because of its size and ease of implementation. With signal speeds increasing at an exponential rate, the need to maintain the signals' integrity has lead to the incorporation of shielding, magnetics, filtering and LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) into the RJ11 and RJ45 housings. are on a steady increase. By integrating the magnetic components that are normally found as surface mount devices on printed circuit boards (PCBs), reduced emissions and maximized PCB space are realized while increasing manufacturing efficiency. The ERNI MaxJack TM line of Integrated Magnetic Modular Jacks can be customized to the needs of the circuit design. Connectors are available for all Ethernet data rates. They are constructed using a patented ERNI design and specified to meet FCC and IEEE 802.3 requirements for performance and isolation. The product is offered in single port, multi-port ganged, and multi-port stacked and ganged connector configurations for T1/E1, 10 BASE-T, 10/100 BASE-TX, 10/100/1000 BASE-T (Gigabit) applications. The standard 10/100 BASE-TX design fully supports Auto MDIX applications. There is also a single port version with LED’s that can support 10 BASE-T, 10/100 BASE-TX and 10/100/1000 BASE-T (Gigabit) transmission rates. An additional MaxJack version is under development o support remote power (sometimes referred to as “Power over LAN”) applications. These provide the ability to supply power along with data on the CAT5 cable up to 100 meters. This eliminates the need for external AC or DC supply needs. This will allow the HUB to provide 48 Vdc at up to 350 mA for applications requiring less than 12 watts of power. This can then be converted to the 3.3 Vdc or 5 Vdc through an isolated DC/DC converter to power up the PHY and DTE (Data Terminal Equipment) circuits.
