As an ALS provider, Millstadt Ambulance Service will have paramedics teaming with emergency medial technicians and ambulance drivers to provide a more comprehensive level of emergency medical care than can be offered by a BLS service. reconsidering budgets and making applications to the State of Illinois in addition to finding qualified personnel to add to our existing staff. The level of emergency medical care that can be offered by this ALS service is well worth this effort. Another change, the transition to 911 dispatching, was a much longer journey and had to be made in stages. One of the most difficult concerns of the change was informing the public that 911 was the only The upgrade from a Basic Life Support number to call. Old habits die hard, and (BLS) service to an Advanced Life Support there was a recording on the ‘old number’ (ALS) service has been the most that merely said: ‘If this is an emergency, significant change to the Millstadt dial 911’ instead of the more common: Ambulance Service in recent years. “This number has been disconnected.” Changes like this don’t happen overnight, Not until this number stopped receiving however. This has taken years of any calls whatsoever was it completely planning, applying for grants, disconnected. This 8 Around the Village Garden Place Encourages Planning Ahead for Winner Winter months often make us all more prone to depression, but for seniors this is often exacerbated. This is due to the fact that many choose to stay home more often, leading to social isolation. Social isolation leads to depression for persons at any age. Seniors don’t want to bother others for help and can have difficulty getting their cars out, shoveling, or simply fear falling on those icy days. This social isolation doesn’t only impact their emotional state but has also been found through research to have links to illnesses and declined physical health. To prevent the winter months from bringing you down, begin plan now and don’t be afraid to ask for help. You of course can utilize family in these times of need but you can also look to your local resources. Most counties have transportation services available. In Millstadt, the senior center provides activities and outings monthly. Also, Millstadt Area Senior Transportation is available Monday through Friday 9am- 2pm. If what you need is peace of mind or convenience, you may want to consider assisted living. One of the biggest and most beneficial benefits to assisted living communities is the fact that they provide a 24/7 built-in social support system through staff and other residents. Activities and meals are provided for you in house daily, you won’t need to worry about shoveling your sidewalk or driveway. You will also have the comfort of knowing that if you catch one of those dreaded winter illnesses, the staff are trained and available to help you through that time. Most assisted living communities including Garden Place are able to offer respite or temporary stays to you, so if you want to take a mini vacation in town during those winter months, you can do so right in your backyard at Garden Place. Call us to check in our current specials at (618)-971-7706. -Garden Place of Millstadt Newsletter submissions should be sent to [email protected] by the 25th of each month. This is an opportunity to advertise any sales, special events or other news going on at your business.
