what, where, when! The Philadelphia Experiment is intent on fostering creative expression and civic engagement. Through participatory events and community service initiatives we open doors of collective opportunity to help drive positive change in the world. PEXSF 2015 TLC Baltimore general information Gate Gate will open at 8AM Friday morning and will be open 24 hours a day during the duration of the event except for Burn Night when gates will close from 9PM-12AM. Upon entry, all guests will be required to register and receive a wristband, which must be worn AT ALL TIMES throughout the duration of the event. Ins and outs are strongly discouraged. In the case of emergency, a re-entry pass will be issued for $25 per person. Everyone must be off the property on Monday by 12PM. Fires Do not light fires on bare ground or dig pits, leaving scars. Please use a burn barrel or burn platform. Burn only clean untreated wood or paper (nothing synthetic.) Make sure you have a fire extinguisher properly placed where everyone can access it. ABSOLUTELY NO FIRES ON THE GROUND. Swimming A Lifeguard will be on duty at the pool during the daytime. There is NO swimming in unsupervised waters. Camp Stoves & Barbecues Camp stoves and barbecues are allowed in your camping areas, but please use extreme caution and be responsible. Always make sure your stove is in an area which is clear of dry grass and brush, and never leave a stove unattended while it is burning. If you are using a camp stove, make sure you have a fire extinguisher properly placed where everyone can access it. Fireworks Absolutely no fireworks, firearms, rockets, or other explosives are allowed. If you are caught using any of the aforementioned, you will be asked to leave the event. Participation We are honored to have the contributions of such an amazing and multi-talented group of energetic people at our events. YOU have been the reason PEX has been able to do so much! We know that every moment of time, every bit of energy, that is contributed will aid in fostering the mission of PEX as we construct events that nurture the evolution of the human spirit. We would like to thank all of our friends, family, and community that have supported us over the years. Especially the hard working team that has worked for months to make all of this possible. We also like to send a special thank you to all of the participating artists, performers, musicians, speakers, teachers, volunteers and YOU. You are all helping create a place where knowledge, freedom and celebration come together as one. Much Love & Respect Meal Plan All meals will be served in the dining hall along with iced tea, juices, teas and coffee. A full salad bar and vegetarian entree will be available at each meal. The meal plan includes five meals: Friday Dinner, Saturday Brunch, Saturday Dinner, Sunday Brunch, Sunday Dinner. Meal times are as follows: Sat/Sun Brunch is from 8:3011:30AM. Fri/Sat/Sun Dinner is from 5:30-8:30PM.There are also food vendors on site serving food 24 hours. FIRST AID First Aid is available at the First Aid Station located in the GYMNASIUM. If you need First Aid or emergency help, locate the closest Event Staff and ask them to page First Aid. We will come pick you up. SANCTUARY Sanctuary is located in the Gym and is available every night from 8pm-8am for Pexies who need someone to help them through a tough time. Ice & Water Ice is available for purchase in the Vendor Area. Water can also be located at spigots on site which are marked on the map. Cabins No fire in or around the cabins. This includes smoking and incense burning. Please leave the cabins the way you found them. Leave no trace in the cabins. If it doesn’t come from your body, it doesn’t go in the potty! Please, do not put trash in or around the port-o-potties. Leave No Trace The PEX Summer Festival is a leave no trace event. Our community respects the environment. We are committed to leaving no physical trace of our activities wherever we gather. We clean up after ourselves and endeavor, whenever possible, to leave such places in a better state than when we found them. This includes the cabins as well. Please, pick up trash as you go. The Philadelphia Experiment is honored to be able to award art honorariums for PEXSF 2016 Josephine the Colossal Skeletal Marionette by Christian Breeden, Jessica Eberlin, Randy Randerson Josephine the Colossal Skeletal Marionette! She is built to colossal proportions three times that of a six-foot-tall human. In this piece, the bear spirit is represented as a mountain set against a celestial night sky wearing an eagle feathered headress composed of crystalized nebula clouds. www.steveshorts.com The Blacklight Forest by the Playing Mantis crew There are exciting experiences and places to play just off the beaten path. The ambiance of the challenge course, when blacklit, is very surreal and an excellent backdrop participants can use in a lot of ways. The visual effects encourage folks to play on the elements, which is generally a team activity. This creates a great shared experience for participants. CHRISTMAS IN JULY V2 by Pico, Woad, Erin, Kyle, and Perv Embrace the holiday spirit with this interactive art installation! Featuring holiday decorations, a fresh Christmas tree, and a digital snow-covered landscape. We are making it cool once again - to gift and be merry. Meso Creso Truck DJ Booth by Meso Creso METAMORPHIC MINDS by Alicia Rennekamp and Phaedrus Wolf Metamorphic Minds is a sculpture that doubles as an art space for people to meet, connect, philosophize and bond over the wonders of the universe. Orb Generator by Gaetan Spurgin and Skye Ruozzi The ORB generator creates a space where people’s presence augments the light around them, peering through to the outside of its walls and beaming multi coloured disco beams across the sky. The Orb, The Pit, and The Antenna by Eric Coolidge, Taylor Browning, Eric Whitney & Hannah MacDonald The Antenna connects one to the sky, to the forces of the greater universe and the the need to see a higher perspective. The Pit allows for a gathering of people in contemplation, both on high and on ground. The Orb is the connecting force that reinforces the cyclical nature of life both on earth and beyond. Built from a 1967 Mack Semi-truck, this DJ booth is a fully utilitarian art installation. It is inspired by the highly decorated multiple forms of public and commercial Herb Labyrinth by Farmer Liz and The Imaginarium In the midst of the festive atmosphere of PEX, we offer a meditative respite with our Herb Labyrinth. The labyrinth, complete with guided meditations, will stimulate the senses and provide opportunities for introspection. The DJ booth represents Meso Creso’s diverse American, yet very immigrant, identity and sound. Hand-painted and designed with gems, jewelry, brass instruments, and other decorative pieces from around the world - every inch of the surface tells our stories of who we are and where we come from. This installation brings a defining element to our bayt, one that brings our cultures & stories, our music & sound and, of course, the all-night dancing you’ve come to love of Meso Creso. PEX Summer Festival strives to bring you the cutting edge of culture and thought. We are catering to the intellectual and imaginative desires of our community. For this reason, we are hosting a variety of interactive workshops that will explore topics unique to the interests of social and cultural evolution. How does working with plants during our personal, social, and economical transformations prime us for a continued existence in the divine of every moment? PAVILION Social Dancing w/ Jonifin Marvin Learn basic partner dance moves of Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, and partner dance etiquette to incorporate in the EDM/house music arena. LABYRINTH Thai Massage w/ Damion Bond Thai Massage is a light hearted workshop/study space designed to introduce you to simple, easy, effective, and FUN massage maneuvers. Using your palms, thumbs, elbows, forearms, knees and feet, you will be guided through tension release techniques to use on a partner. FLOW ZONE The Day Your Balls Dropped! w/ Jim James Over, Under, Around, Behind w/ Krstena Come and learn one of the oldest forms of flow Juggling, first seen in early hieroglyphics depicting jugglers, and still present today. The basics of juggling have stayed the same, and it would great for you to come learn ! This is a fan class to teach movement with the prop over, under, around and behind your body. This class is centered around the idea that if we work up to a trick by starting with small, simple movements and gradually building up their complexity, anyone can learn difficult tech and apply these lessons to learning a variety of tricks they encounter. We’ll build shapes out of straight lines that will build up to things that will amaze you yourself! This is a class primarily directed towards people who need any knowledge to go off of as to how they would like to move with their fans, and the possibililties they didnt see laying before them. PAVILION Ultimate Bhangra w/ Matthew Schmidt & Carolina Veloso Join us in our 5th year of bringing high energy, addictively joyful Bhangra Dance to PEX. This intoxicatingly fun dance workshop culminates in a thrilling poolside performance which has quickly become a PEX favorite! Day two is all about finalizing your mask-nificent work of art with color and texture. Here you will learn how to fold your own stellated octahedron, the flower of life. Please arrive early as it will take about an hour to make one. LAKE Does growing older have to mean growing old? Today we will share practical tips accrued over a lifetime about how to healthily sustain a celebratory, exploratory lifestyle well into ones 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond. 7:00 PM LABYRINTH Sound Bath Meditation with Himalayan Singing Bowls w/ Damion Bond Come experience a blissful with the rejuvenating sounds of fifteen singing bowls, two gongs and several delicate tingshas while you lay in soft meditation. Led by Philly native Geri Omni, Setu Tribe is a band of PEXies who come together to perform a collectively choreographed dance. Each movement is derived from an experience or a future manifestation, making the dance into a series of pivotal moments that each Tribes Woman shares.
