A progressive city in a progressive
state, San Diego has long been
considered a great place for gays and
lesbians to live and visit. The city has
boasted the county’s first openly gay
district attorney, as well as several
out government officials, including
members of the city council. Gay and
lesbian city residents enjoy laws that

The epicenter of San Diego’s GLBT
community is the neighborhood
of Hillcrest, located just north of
downtown. Visitors are greeted by
the famous neon sign bearing the
neighborhood’s name at Fifth and
University Avenues. Once you arrive,
you’ll have no question that Hillcrest

And while the neighborhood caters to

Hillcrest has been the heart of the
community since the 1970s, but a

Hillcrest is known as San Diego’s

Much of your time in downtown
San Diego will be spent exploring
its diverse neighborhoods, each
with distinctive beauty and appeal.
In the heart of downtown you’ll find
the Gaslamp Quarter. Over 100
restaurants, 40 nightclubs and bars and
retail shops galore, set in late 1800’s
Victorian architecture, mark this trendy
district near the San Diego Convention
Center. A short hop away is Little
Italy, a quaint and lively neighborhood
peppered with outdoor cafes,
restaurants, shops, hotels and
the beautiful Amici Park.
Coronado is the small village island
located across San Diego Bay from
downtown San Diego. This quaint city
is best known for its grand views of the
Pacific and vast stretches of white
sand, which have been named among
