OUR COMMUNITY
Living in University Housing makes your experience at UWM truly
memorable. You become part of a tight-knit community that gives you an
opportunity to learn about yourself, others, and the world around you.
Studies have shown that students who live in residence halls report bet ter
academic performance than their off-campus peers. Additionally, living in
University Housing makes it easier to become involved in UWM events and
organizations.

UWM.EDU/HOUSING
All first-time freshmen are required to live in University Housing at UW-Milwaukee, when such accommodations are
available. While some exceptions exist, your online contract process will be initiated upon your admission to UWM.
Admission to UWM does not guarantee a space in University Housing. We occasionally have a waiting list of prospective
students. You are not guaranteed housing until you receive a online contract, return it with your advance payment, and
receive an acceptance letter from University Housing.
Living in the residence halls is one of the best decisions you can make
during your college career.

PROFILES
University Housing allows you to experience all that Milwaukee has to offer while remaining connected to campus life. Our
shuttle service guarantees you a safe and convenient way to travel between campus and University Housing buildings.
Living Learning Communities are dynamic living and learning environments where students live in a particular area of
a residence hall with other students who have similar interests. Those LLCs have courses taught right in the residence
hall, with instructors who have office hours in the halls, and student mentors and RAs that plan special events for the
students in their LLCs. Sometimes LLCs are related to a particular major, like Business or Engineering; sometimes LLCs
are related to more general academic interests, like Honors or Research; and sometimes LLCs are related to personalities
and/or hobbies, like Community Leadership or Dance. Whatever your interests are, with more than 20 LLCs and over
1,000 participants, we have an LLC for you! For more information on Living Learning Communities, visit llc.uwm.edu.

THE COMMUNITY
Cambridge Commons opened in 2010 to acclaim. Located just
across the river from RiverView Residence Hall, Cambridge
earned a prestigious LEED Gold Certification. With nearly 700
residents and a contemporary design, Cambridge fuses the
warmth of a small, friendly community with the style of a trendy
eastside apartment building.

GET INVOLVED!
SANDBURG HALL
The four towers of Sandburg house nearly 2,800 students.
Sandburg is situated near the northwest corner of the
Kenwood Campus. In addition to an outdoor recreation area
for basketball, tennis and sand volleyball, it features Flicks
movie theater, where second-run movies are shown 4 nights a
week during the school year. Palm Gardens provides students
a late-night dining option, perfect for marathon study sessions.

Over 4,000 residents are part of the University Housing community.
A Resident Assistant lives in your community and will help you get
acclimated to campus, meet other residents in your community, and
ensure safety within the building.
You also have the opportunity to join the Student Housing Administrative
Council (SHAC) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). These
organizations serve to represent and recognize students in the residence
halls and provide valuable leadership opportunities for residents who
choose to get involved.
PURIN HALL Purin
Hall
With only 51 residents, Purin Hall features a tight-knit
community, a vast majority of which are upperclass students.
Converted in the 1970s from an apartment building, Purin Hall
features fully-furnished kitchens in every suite. Purin Hall is
located near the intersection of Downer and Kenwood, near
the southeast corner of the Kenwood Campus.
