Hello and Welcome to Jensen and CHI!
Please print this checklist off and bring it with you on your trip to the United States. There are many

attention upon your arrival. This list will include:
Travel and Flight Information
Employer Arrival instructions
This letter
Social Security Location information
Housing Information (if you have found your own housing, the email containing your housing information)
Sponsor and Emergency Contact Information
Before Your Arrival
You will need to make travel arrangements. You should arrive into the the Knoxville, TN (tys) website
ishttp://www.flyknoxville.com/ This airport is approximately 45 miles away from Gatlinburg. The only way to
get from Knoxville to Gatlinburg, TN is by taxi. There is no airplane, Greyhound bus, or train service into
Gatlinburg, TN. Mr. Jensen, your employer or his son Chad, may be able to pick you up from the
Knoxville, TN airport or the Greyhound bus station if you give him at least 10 days advance notice.
Once you make your travel arrangements, you will need to contact CHI with your flight and travel
information. You can do so immediately by registering your information on www.sevis.org
Remember you must have immediate access to a minimum of $1000 when you enter the United States.
Employers to not pay you in advance or give advances on your salary and it will be 3-5 weeks before you
receive your first full paycheck! Do not bring $1000 in cash with you, it is not safe. You want to have
some cash, some traveler’s checks and/or a bank card that will work here that you can access the rest of
your money with. If you do arrive with a large amount of cash, make sure to open a bank account within
the first few days so that you may keep your money safe.
Make your housing arrangements in advance. Housing is getting booked fast so please make your
arrangements TODAY!! There is a list of 2 housing choices at the end of this document. It is very
important that you make your arrangements before your arrival into the United States. You may want to
contact the other students to arrange your housing together. This will reduce your housing expenses if
you are splitting the cost.
Upon Arrival in the United States
When you enter the US, you will receive your I-94 stamp in your passport. You then must go online and
print out your I-94 number and keep it in your passport at all times. You will need this number to validate
in SEVIS and to apply for your social security card. This is an extremely important number so please put
it in a safe place so that you know where it is at all times.
Report any lost or damaged luggage before leaving the airport. You will need to give them the mailing
address of your employer if you have lost your luggage. The address is printed on your job offer.
Since you are responsible for your own housing you will be responsible for making all arrangements.
Please make sure if you arrive late in the evening that you have a place to stay. There are many hotels
near the airport where you can stay. Please make sure you know where you are going to be staying when
[
you arrive. From the airport, you can take a taxi. Please remember that you will need to be prepared for
these extra costs. Please do NOT go to the employer with your luggage, they do NOT assist with housing.
Make sure to find the most affordable transportation to your housing.
Call your family to let them know that you have arrived safely.
Validate yourself in SEVIS www.sevis.org within 3 days of entering the U.S.
Notify employer by phone after you arrive to Gatlinburg, TN to verify your scheduled start date and time.
10 days after arrival:
You will not be able to apply for your Social Security card for 10 days after you enter the U.S. providing
you registered in SEVIS right after arriving.
Make sure you put your employer's mailing address on the form. If you do not put your employer's
address, your Social Security number may not reach you. Your employers mailing address is:
Your employer's payroll department must also have confirmation that you have applied for your social
security card within 10 to 17 days after registering in SEVIS. When you apply for your social security
number, ask for a receipt, then keep this with you and provide a copy to your employer, which verifies
you have applied for your number.

and I-9 forms) with your new employers. Also when you leave your employer, make sure to leave 1 or 2
self-addressed envelopes with your complete address back home on it, so that they may send you your
last paycheck or tax papers.
Practical Information
Cell Phones: Some students may want to carry a cell phone. There are many phone options. Many cell
phone companies require a contract and monthly payments. However, you may wish to purchase a phone
without a contract, using pre-paid minutes. This is a practical, short-term solution and you do not pay
monthly rates. Pre-paid phones are available at a variety of electronic retail outlets, including Walmart. In
[
this agreement, you are able to purchase prepaid minutes and do not have to pay a monthly rate. You
can ask an associate that works at the cell phone counter to help you out. They are very kind and will
help you pick the best choice. Keep in mind that international calls from your own personal cell phone can
be very expensive. If you do get a cell phone make sure to log into www.sevis.org and enter in what your
cell phone number is.
Other Wireless Technologies: Skype is also an inexpensive option for you to use to speak with your
family. You can add some dollar credits to your account and call from your computer. The calls can be
made internationally with your computer or phone.
