Join us in celebrating their quality and excellence in anesthesia care during National CRNA Week Jan. 24-30. “Our patients and their safe journey through surgery is our priority,” says Joy Ray, SCR CRNA. “We care for them at a very vulnerable time in their life, and it is an honor to provide safe, quality anesthesia for all of our patients, one at a time.” St. Claire Regional CRNAs First Row (L to R): Joy Ray, Carri Hicks Second Row (L to R): Emily Mason, Cindy Blankenship, Irene Rooney, Kristi Lynch Established by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, National CRNA Week was created to encourage CRNAs to take the opportunity to educate the public about anesthesia safety, questions to ask prior to undergoing surgery, and the benefits of receiving anesthesia care from nurse anesthetists. “One of the many rewards of being a nurse anesthetist is providing patients with the comfort of knowing that I will be by their side monitoring their vital signs and adjusting their anesthetics to ensure a pain free and safe anesthesia experience,” says Kristi Lynch, SCR CRNA. Nurse anesthetists are advanced practice registered nurses who administer more than 34 million anesthetics in the United States each year, and practice in every setting in which anesthesia is available. Check Out the SCR Newsbrief online at www.st-claire.org/Newsbrief St. Claire Regional Medical Center Elizabeth Matera, MD receives cancer liaison physician appointment St. Claire Regional (SCR) is proud to announce that Elizabeth Matera, MD, SCR family medicine physician, has been appointed to the position of cancer liaison physician for SCR’s cancer program. Matera is among a national network of more than 1,500 volunteer physicians who are responsible for providing leadership and direction to establish, maintain and support their facilities’ cancer programs. Matera, who has a significant interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with malignant diseases, is a member of the multidisciplinary cancer committee at SCR. Cancer liaison physicians are responsible for evaluating, interpreting and reporting their facilities’ performance data through the National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) and facilitating quality improvement initiatives based on data findings. In addition, cancer liaison physicians lead the Commission on Cancer (CoC) initiatives within the cancer program and collaborate with agencies such as the American Cancer Society on behalf of the hospital. The CoC collects data from its accredited cancer programs and provides tools for these programs to facilitate analysis of patterns of diagnosis, treatment and quality of care for patients treated at the hospital. SCR’s cancer care program is accredited by the American College of Surgeons through its adherence to the Commission on Cancer’s Program Standards. Formed in 1988, Radio Eye is a nonprofit organization based in Lexington that broadcasts the reading of printed news, magazines and community events to people who are blind, visually impaired or have any disability that makes reading difficult or impossible. Through this partnership, Radio Eye’s 24-hour broadcast is available to all patients at SCR on in-house television channel 88.2. “This partnership allows us to provide a new, unique service in our facility,” Mark J. Neff, SCR President/CEO, said. “In addition to the high quality care we provide, we strive to provide our patients with advanced resources, in hopes of making their stay the best it can possibly be.” Amy Hatter, executive director of Radio Eye, said, “We are excited to be able to offer this additional service in Morehead. We’ve been in Morehead a few months now, through a partnership with Morehead State Public Radio, so people can have our service in their homes – we’re glad to have this opportunity to offer another way for listeners to tune in.” 3C’s Christmas was full of donations this year... to and from SCR Madalyn is a 7-year-old from Morehead who wished to donate stuffed animals to sick children in the area for Christmas. She even purchased the gifts with her own money. Thanks, Madalyn! Third Central’s tree this year was decorated to the theme of “Furry Friends Christmas,” with the Grinch and his best friend, Max, being featured. To carry out the theme, a variety of animal food, toys and supplies were collected and donated to Rowan County Animal shelter. Even animals need a little Christmas cheer! www.st-claire.org 3 St. Claire Regional Medical Center TRUNK SHOW January 28-29 Café D THURSDAY January 28 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. FRIDAY January 29 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Designer Jewelry Sterling Silver Jewelry Snap Jewelry Purses and Scarves A great selection for Valentine’s Day!
