Ed Cicotte No-Hitter
On April 14, 1917 Ed Cicotte of the Chicago White Sox pitched a nohitter against the St. Louis Browns. Cicotte, of course, is remembered
as one of the players banned from baseball because of his involvement
in the Black Sox World Series scandal in 1919. Most fans don’t realize
how good a pitcher he actually was, perhaps even a potential Hall of
Fame player. In his 14 year career he won over twenty games three
times, leading the league twice, and in 1917 led the league in ERA.
His lifetime numbers were 209-148 with a 2.38 ERA.
