Step it Up…Women Helping Women Luncheon 2014 Was a Success!
Four worthy non-profit organizations were honored and the audience enjoyed a message on women’s health
and anti-aging at the third annual Shelby Community Foundation-Step it Up for Women luncheon on
September 26, 2014, at Cherry Creek Golf Club in Shelby Township.
Dr. Catherine Waller, MD, guest speaker, delivered her views on enhancing health, beauty and anti-aging to
an audience of 130 participants. Dr. Waller practices in Rochester, Michigan, at the Waller Wellness Center
where she emphasizes delivering health care in both a traditional and a holistic manner.
Ameriprise Financial was the Event Sponsor. Beaumont Health Systems was a Gift Sponsor providing gifts
for each guest. Sola Life and Fitness and Premier Private Physicians were Ad Sponsors for the event.
An Expo, featuring vendors and exhibitors, was a new addition to this year’s event. The Expo included 20
participants where guests could learn about or purchase their services and products.
The four grant recipients honored were: Macomb Literacy Partners, who will use their grant to teach reading
and writing skills to 5 women studying English as a second language via their book club; Turning Point
Domestic Violence Program, who will use their grant for their Community Advocacy Program; Abigail
Ministries, who will use their grant to purchase baby formula for their resource center, and Women’s
Prison Fellowship, who will use their grant for their Pre-release Life Skills Program. Each organization
received a $1,000 grant for their project.
The proceeds from this year’s event will be used to support grants in 2015. Donations to the Women’s Fund
are welcome and can be made using pay pal via the Women’s Luncheon section of the Shelby Community
Foundation website. (Please specify under comments that your donation is for the Women’s Fund).

The Shelby Community Foundation Asks You To:
“GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE!”
Linda Stout, Treasurer
We are inundated with requests for charity donations and contributions during the Christmas season. Our hearts would like to respond to each and every request in some way, but
for most of us, our budgets will not allow donating to each and every cause. With the last
down turn of the economy, many people in Shelby Township became in need of our help.
Therefore, the Shelby Community Foundation Board of Directors is asking that you keep
your charity donations close to home this holiday season and make your contributions to
the various funds in your Community’s Foundation.
The Foundation has many funds to help our neighbors in need:
Friends of Foster Kids Fund – providing a Christmas for Foster Kids in Macomb County
Daybreakers Kiwanis Club Fund – helping childr en and families in our community
Jamie’s Smiles Endowment Fund – helping childr en with Special Needs
Charles McLaughlin Memorial Fund – helping Senior Citizens stay in their homes
Shelby Community Foundation Fund – for gener al community needs
Women’s Fund – “Women helping Women”
Jameson Bates Memorial Fund – scholar ships for high school students
Healthy Futures Fund – helping youth and Senior Citizens in our community
When making your charitable donation decisions this Christmas season, please keep the Shelby Community
Foundation in mind and “Give Where You Live”.

S.A.B.A. Raises Funds for SCF
The Shelby Area Business Association (S.A.B.A.) held a business expo on September 27, 2014, to raise funds
for the Shelby Community Foundation. The event was held at the Shelby Design Center on Van Dyke with 25
businesses represented. Admission was free to the public. There were drawings for donated door prizes, free
hot dogs, chips, ice cream, a bounce house, face painting, balloons and a terrific shopping opportunity. As a
result, S.A.B.A. presented the SCF with a check for $1,500.00 at their October 21, 2014, meeting. A heartfelt
‘Thank You’ to S.A.B.A., to all the businesses, and all the donors and supporters of this event. The donation
is greatly appreciated and will be used for good in our community.
S.A.B.A. is a small business networking association that meets
on the third Tuesday of each month from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the
Hamlin Pub on Van Dyke and 25 Mile Road. Local business
owners get together to promote their businesses. There is no
fee to attend the monthly meeting, support this association,
promote your business, and meet some great people. For more
information call David Giancola at 586-935-6110.
Present to receive the donation were Thomas Dearlove, SCF Secretary;
Nancy Bates, SCF Chairperson, Georgette Sarzyneski, S.A.B.A.
Chairperson for Events & Fund Raising, and Linda Stout, SCF Treasurer.
