50 New Families!
In many of these
family’s situations, He
used YOU! Thank you
Park family for talking
to your friends and
family about what you
love at Park!
Invite new students for
play dates. Invite new
families to join you in
family activities. Sit
by new students and
new families in the
bleachers at games.
Think what it must be
like to be the “newbie”
and reach out to them.
We thank the Lord
for every student and
family that He has
brought to PCS!

Two PCS Students Named in the
National Merit Scholarship Program
Haleigh Larson has been named one of 1,600 Semi-finalists
in the National Merit Scholarship Program. This allows
Haleigh to continue in the competition for approximately 800
Achievement Scholarship awards worth about $2.5 million that will be offered next
spring. To be considered for a National Achievement Scholarship, Semifinalists must fulfill
several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 80 percent
of Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists
will win an Achievement Scholarship Award.
Sam Quanbeck has been named a Commended Student in the 2014 National Merit
Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are
being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue
in the 2014 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students
placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2014
competition by taking the 2012 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test
(PSAT/NMSQT).

Football Offensive Lineman Austin Daugherty’s eyes lit up like a deer in headlights when
the “Daugherty Special” was called in the huddle. Quarterback Jared Olsgaard told him not
to drop the pass. As the ball sailed in the Fargodome lights to a wide-open Daugherty, he
thought to himself: “Don’t drop it.”

He didn’t and it was a big reason Park Christian rallied for a 41-27 Minnesota 9-man football
win over Norman County East-Ulen-Hitteral. Daugherty hauled in his first-ever reception and
went 65 yards for a touchdown. I’m just happy I didn’t drop the ball.” “It was huge,” Olsgaard
said. “With that touchdown, it sparked everything.”

Graduated from Park Christian School in 2006.
Graduated from MSU, Moorhead, in 2010.
Graduated from William Mitchell College of Law in 2013.
James took the two day Minnesota Bar exam in July of
2013. He was notified that he passed the exam October
7. James is the first PCS alum to pass this formal
assessment.
When asking him to give us a little insight into this feat, he
answered two questions:
What are your immediate future plans?
In typical lawyer fashion I’ll have to provide a vague answer here because there is
nothing set in stone but I have several options. For now I’ll just have to say that I plan on
providing excellent legal services in Minnesota after swearing in before the Minnesota
Supreme Court. I plan on being granted permission to practice law in North Dakota
shortly after.
How did your education from Park help prepare you for law school?
I need to thank former PCS teacher and speech team coach Diane Olson for believing
in me and helping me find my confidence.
Congratulations James! We are proud of you.

Shortly after

that read: “GD

She also commented to her daughter that she was impressed with how articulate and bold (in a good way) the
children were (in the Kindergarten program) and how well they sang. She also couldn’t believe they had learned
nine Bible verses since school had started.
“Wow, talk about confirmation that Park is a great investment and that our grandson is right where he should be!”
Medications
The ‘Heaven’s Angels Fund’ is promoted
annually by the Parent Association as a way
for the entire school family to gift staff and
faculty members monetarily at Christmas time.
If you would like to contribute, donations of
any amount may be dropped off in the office
with ‘PCS Parent Association Heavens Angels
Fund’ on the front of the envelope and on the
memo line.
Thank you to all who help continue this
tradition each year.

CORNER
In the month of November the
counseling services of PCS will
be focusing on the theme of
“Diversity: God’s Design.” We will
be using Romans 12:4-5 to discuss
how God has intricately designed
the church body. We will look at
the benefits of diversity and how
to see through Christ’s eyes to
uncover how diversity is one of
God’s special ways of blessing us.
We will also look at how narrowmindedness creates barriers in
working interdependently as God
designed for us to do. We will
discover our need for Christ’s eyes
and the gift that comes with his
vision. I encourage you to join us in
discussing with your child(ren) the
joy that comes from embracing how
God has made us all unique.
See you at the Pole

Comment heard by Miss Urlacher during Service Day:
A lot of my students helped the older kids carry tree branches during
their recess time. One of my students told me it was fun to help others.
She said, “I knew the big kids could serve but I know I can help too!”

by Kent S. Hannestad
Here is my perspective on a number of things around Park Christian School.
Morning Devotions. I am filled with excitement, anticipation, and pride as the teachers gather every morning for
devotions in the library. I am excited to view the video segment for that morning. I anticipate the reaction and response
of those gathered. I am proud of the staff the Lord has brought to Park Christian School.
Accreditation. I am completely confident in Mr. Nellermoe as he directs the re-accreditation process for the school. I
recognize the significance of this process and the credibility accreditation brings. I can’t wait for the review committee to
visit our school.
Chapels. This is a weekly highlight for me. I am proud of Mr. Schuster as he gives leadership to the praise team. I have
complete confidence in Andria Messelt as she leads the elementary chapels. I consider that time slot to be the most
important of the entire week. I love hearing the students begin their week singing praises to our amazing God!
Washington D.C. Trip. I see this annual trip of our 9th grade students as a defining event of our school. I think it’s
great that we intentionally provide this trip to instill in our students a deeper understanding of our country’s Christian
heritage.
Capital Campaign. As we continue in what’s called “The Silent Phase” of the campaign, I am reminded daily of my
complete dependence on God to provide the necessary funds. God has been so faithful in the entire process and I
have complete confidence in His provision in all areas. I am thrilled the Lord provided a guy like Austen Schauer to
partner with in this endeavor and I can’t wait to see how the Lord answers our prayers!
PCS Families. I am continually filled with thanksgiving and awe as I pray through the directory of families. What an
amazing compilation of families the Lord has brought together!
So, from my perspective, God is continuing to bless Park Christian School in numerous ways. I am honored to occupy
this front row seat to His goodness. Thank you for being a part of Park Christian School’s family.
