Time Out NY 2013 - Blo Blow Dry Bar
Although blow-dry bars have recently become all the rage, this Canadian chain claims to have been the
first when it debuted in Vancouver in 2007. Having opened 29 branches throughout North America and
Asia, Blo launches its first NYC location in a magenta-accented railroad-style space. Guests are greeted
with a complimentary glass of water or pink champagne before getting lathered with Unite gluten-free,
vegan shampoo at one of the two washing stations in the back. Blowouts ($40) are a flat fee regardless of
hair length or texture, and there are seven styles—illustrated in a fuchsia hardcover book—to choose
from, ranging from the pin-straight Executive Sweet and tousled Pillow Talk to the High Society top knot
and Go Fish fishtail braid. There’s even a version just for guys called the Blo Bro ($25), featuring a 20-minute scalp massage. For special occasions, Blo offers updos ($65) and bridal packages ($160) that include
a 45-minute consultation and in-bar service on the day of, but if you can’t make it to the eight-chair salon,
Blo on the Go ($75 per style) sends a stylist directly to you. Pick up Parlux blow dryers ($330), Dry Divas
bejeweled printed shower caps ($30), Unite volumizing spray ($22) and Tri Professional Haircare hairspray
($20) to maintain your newly coiffed locks. 325 E 64th St between First and Second Aves (646-490-4448,
