If your name is listed it would be nice if you and your spouse could attend the meeting to receive your pins in person. We currently have 95 members and the average year of membership is 17 years. That is a lot of experience and says something for our club as I sure a lot of other chapters and clubs do not have such a record. . 5 yrs [16 members 1 – 5 yrs.] Terry & Heather Davidson Jim & Liz Gunnarson Carolyn & Wolf Obieglo 20 yrs [18 members 11 – 20yrs.] John & Karen Buck Gerry & Vicki Wallin 25 yrs [5 members 21 – 25] Virgil & Karin Lysgaard 10 yrs [27 members 6 – 10 yrs.] Roger & Marilynne Blagborne Clark & Susan Borth Ken Friesen & Shelley Chmielewski Robert & Shirley Hand Jack & Mary Herman Tom Lafreniere & Donna Mellquist Ron & Bev Smith Rick & Jeanne Wourms 30 yrs [5 members 26 – 30 yrs] Bob & Jeanne Chambers Bob & Nancy Eacrett 35 yrs [13 members 31 – 35 yrs] Ron & Chick Buck 45 yrs [11 members 36 – 45 yrs] Dave & Noella Dickinson 2 Past Kamloops Easter Parades #1 – Overall picture by the Fort 1972 #2 – Ed & Elaine Shaw 1917 Buick Touring #3 – The Johnson’s & Parkes visit city hall to promote the Easter Parade #4 - Dick Parkes gets car ready for parade [Year unknow] #5 – Parade leaving Sahali Mall #6 - Parade on route #7 – Ed Shaw’s Packard #8 – Gene Johnson promotes parade #9 – Ed & Elaine Shaw in newspaper. #10 – Couple of cuties unknown 3 #5 – Ed Shaw’s Rolls Royce #6 – 1912 Detroit Electric from Victor visits parade #7 – Rick Ford with Model T #8 – Easter Bunny helps with traffic control #1 - Jerry Wallin repairs 1911 Buick #2 - Marion McConnell #3 -Michael & Nickalus Bouwmeester #4 – Darrell & Duane Dickinson sitting in rumble seat of 1928 Hupp [1972] 4 Ev Gallagher pretending to be Granny Clampett riding in Jay‟s Ford. Over the years many different things have been tried such as members having out of town billets, a dinner & dance along with a Suit Case Swap Meet at the Barnhartvale Hall, then it was breakfast at the Peppermill restaurant and now we have the club cook trailer we do our own pancake breakfast at Westsyde Park. I understand at one of the Banquets that there was a dessert contest for the men. Glen Gallagher was winning with his car shaped cake until the judges tried the icing and found out that it was grease. No Glenn did not win! There was a time that more people took time to dress in Vintage Clothing and the ladies wore Easter Bonnets. Hoping you can do that this year in order of our 40th parade. Over the years like so many other things our Easter Bunnies have also changed from small young bunnies to larger bunnies (riding in truck in picture next page) including one year we had the pleasure of three playboy bunnies. (Sorry guys no pictures) I do not know how many years Dick Parkes has been chairman however we have had it cold and windy but I do not believe rain for any parade so we are leaving him in charge again this year to insure good weather. Our plan has always been the same to have only Vintage Cars 25 years and older participate. (No rods or customs) 1994 we started featuring a different “Marque” each year and this year it is Lincoln. 1985‟s will be allowed in the parade this year. For some of us it is hard to believe that a 1985 is considered a Vintage Car as you can see a number of them on the street being used as daily drivers. Hope you can get your car out, dress vintage and join in to make the 40th Anniversary of the Easter Parade a great success. Editor ****************************** 5 Gene Johnson was telling me that he and Ray Ford had a heck of time trying to keep Ed Shaw’s 1903 one cylinder Oldsmobile running so it could make it through the parade. Ed Shaw’s 1903 Oldsmobile Doug Pitman’s Packard & Ed’s Oldsmobile Gene Johnson’s Packard & Stanley Steamer Gallaghers car adapted to a police car. Another interesting event one year was when coming down from Sahali Mall Gene‟s Stanley lost the brakes on his Stanley Steamer the Columbia street hill and ended up in the hospital yard straddling a cement wall. The Stanley went up for sale a short time later. Stallard’s McConnell’s delivery truck was sold to the BC Transpo Museum Club Wrecker before the restoration. 6 Pictures from Past Parades Valleyview Shopping Center at the end of the 1979 Parade Bob & Jeanne Chambers Stallard McConnell (from Salmon Arm) on the left 7 8 Suitcase Swap Meet Riverside Park 2008 40th ANNUAL EASTER PARADE I urge all members to get your vehicle ready for our first big event of the season. The feature marque this year will be “LINCOLN” and we hope to have a few of those up front leading the procession. There will be the usual pancake breakfast ($3.00 per person) at Westsyde Centennial Park from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM and the parade will start at 1:00 PM from the Westsyde Shopping Center at 1:00 PM. We will be needing assistance with the tech check, parking control, coffee & cookie sales, etc. and a help list will be passed around at the meeting. If you can help please contact Dick at 250 573-5740 or [email protected] . When Doug Smathers‟ dad was not riding his sulky while plowing the field with the horses on the family farm in Baytree, Alberta (12 miles east of Pouce Coupe, BC ) Doug (playing dog) and his bros Bud & Lloyd (horses) would give the neighbours daughter a ride around the yard.(picture was taken 1945) 9 Notices To Up Coming Events Sunday April 11th Coffee @ Dickinson‟s 9:30 am 4015 Davie Rd. February Kamshaft All we know is it is Ammeter Do not know where it was used. Sorry No Winner ? Letters to the editor continued: - Hi everyone, from Prince George, Judy and I thought we would let you know what we have been up to since we moved back to Prince George. Yes, it‟s cold and snowy at times but we have had a pretty mild winter this past one. But being close to family again makes it worthwhile. December 2008 we purchased another car, this one a 1963 Nova SS. We didn‟t tour too much with the car in 2009 just taking in some local shows as the motor and other things needed some attention. Judy especially likes this car because she can reach the pedals to drive it unlike the Chevy 11. The motor had to be rebuilt so we took the engine down to Valley Speed in Kamloops where we had the motor done for the 64 Chevy 11. Craig Beddie helped us out providing his superb knowledge to Rob at Valley Speed, moving the motor over to the painters after it was rebuilt and helped again when we picked it up this past December. Craig is a pretty helpful guy, thanks Craig much appreciated. We now have the car running and ready for this touring season when we plan to let the Chevy 11 rest this year for the long trips. Depending on the weather we are planning to get down to Kamloops for the Easter Parade, hopefully our early spring will continue and some of our famous potholes, rocks and gravel in the north will disappear earlier than the norm. Thanks climate change. Last year we attended a few shows with the Chevy 11, the Prince George British Car Clubs show early in the spring where we won most original, Prince George annual Fathers Day Show and Shine, Williams Lake Spring Roundup, Quesnel, Vanderhoof/Ft St James Hooterville Hoot, MacKenzie, Hixon, Langley Cruise In and the Red Deer Super Run in Alberta. Red Deer was an awesome show with over a thousand vehicles, I don‟t think we saw all the cars in the two days we attended but there was a wide variety of everything you could think of. The rod run they held downtown was great, you cruise for a bit, find a place to park, watch for a bit, cruise again and so on, lots of fun. There were about eight couples from our Crusin Classics Club along on the trip, some driving, some trailering. Please see our local Cruisin Classics website at www.cruisinclassics.ca for pictures and other events and news in the Prince George area. The only bad part of the Red Deer trip was a thunderstorm, hail, rain and wind we have never seen the like of before. It happened on the Saturday night at the dinner-dance, some cars that were left on site had water running through the doors, and storm drains were overflowing, bubbling back with water shooting out like geysers. Luckily before we left our motel I noticed the clouds coming in and as an afterthought asked one of our friends if we could put our car in their trailer as our windshield leaked a bit, they had left their car on site so it was no problem so our car basically escaped the storm. The Brandon Manitoba Club ( [email protected] ) selected our Chevy 11 for a free registration (one of two) to the Super Run in Brandon Manitoba July 30 to August, 2010. We asked if we had to bring the Chevy 11, and they replied that we could bring anything we wanted so Judy and I have decided to take our freshly rebuilt 63 Nova to the show and make a holiday of it. So we are going to Brandon then coming back through Kamloops to attend the Hot Nite the next weekend. Langley as always was a big show and hard to see everything, the weather cooperated but it was a long day staging at 05:30 and leave the show around five in the afternoon. We‟re glad we made it the last two years as it has been cancelled for next year. We have other shows we would like to get to this season as well. The Penticton show where we have already registered. Besides Hot Nite in Kamloops, Penticton and Brandon, I think those will be our longest runs this year. Recently we were given a 1965 Mustang. It needs tons of work inside and out, but the seats and some other stuff are in good shape. The previous owner had rebuilt the inline 200 ci six motor, so that‟s done. It‟s one of those when I get to it projects. I can see it taking awhile? When I retire? We‟ll see……. Cheers for now. Hoping to see you all in early April for the parade, damn, just looked outside and it‟s snowing got to get the sled back out I guess.
