HERITAGE ACRES
WINTER 2010
Upcoming Car Show
The Old English Car Club of BC in association with SHAS will hold their 6
th
Annual
Restoration Fair and Swap Meet at Heritage Acres on April 17 . The event opens at 10 a.m. and closes at
3 p.m. Between eighty and a hundred British cars of all sorts and sizes including a high proportion of classic sports cars will be on display. Some rare pre WWII examples and a few commercial vehicles are also
expected. The display cars will be parked on and around the green
th
The bulk of the entry fee of $3 per person (children under 12 are free), goes to the SHAS and upwards of five
hundred visitors are expected – assuming of course the
weather is fine. But the show goes on despite wet
weather, British cars are used to the rain! Hot food is
served by SHAS through the day.
There will be Old English cars for sale, Car Club tents
and displays, presentations by local companies supporting the old car restoration hobby, auto memorabilia
and literature and a variety of British car parts for sale
by enthusiasts and local specialists.
The Restoration Fair is the first classic car show of the
year with owners bringing their cars out of hibernation
away from the winter cold and wet. What better setting
to show off old cars than Heritage Acres in the Spring?
We look forward to seeing you there!

A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDATION
A NEW YEAR has begun. I do hope each of our members had a wonderful Christmas and are
now ready to begin another year of challenges.. Have you made sure your membership is up to
date? Please do so now as we are going to need your input and help in voting for new executive
positions in February. SHAF is the support group for SHAS. Our Treasurer Sue Yeats, has after a
long term decided to step down from her position, and we are sad to see her go, so we will need
in fact have to have a new Treasurer, No Group can successfully function without a Secretary
and Norma Bevan has also decided after several years on the board both as President and just
finishing a term as secretary to hang up her hat for a rest.
2011 is my last year as President so I need someone to be Vice President that would be willing
to step up to be president for 2012.
In 2010 our small group was able to generate some healthy funds to help SHAS, unfortunately it
is the same 4-10 people doing it all, we will be doing the usual bake sale in June Fathers Day
weekend. So please mark it on your calendar and prepare to help the baking and manning the
shop.
To close my report I’d like to Thank all who gave help and support for all our endeavours this
pat year. We had two sessions of bad weather one the Fall Threshing week end and again during
Christmas in the Village which managed to be quite successful in spite of all the rain!
HAPPY NEW YEAR

SHAS AND SHAF
EXECUTIVE
Participation feels great
Membership is a great thing, participation is better, we are
still wanting to get some more members involved in the day to
day operations around Heritage Acres. Its easier than you
think. Sign up to do school tours, or work on a project, or you
can fund raise. As you may know we are working toward developing the main Michell Building into a street scene and
fund raising is needed to go forward with this project. A
fundraiser information pamphlet is available in print form or
can be sent out by email. Let the office know if you wish to
participate in this exciting new museum project. If we all pull
a little in the same direction great things can happen.
Some boat hull designs by John Newman have been brought in to
add to the collection in the Newman boathouse. They depict several
stages of shaping and carving the hull designs. And are a great example of how this creative

process is accomplished.
Another donation, this time of
some model tractors has been received by SHAS. Brian will be
making a custom case to house
them. As they are in great shape
and represent a nice sample of

AROUND SHAS
Our resident bus shown here all lit up for Christmas participated in five local parades in 2010 and in each one carried
signs promoting SHAS events. Many positive comment were
heard along the way. We also say a special THANK YOU to
our members that donated non-perishable food again this year
in conjunction with the Island Equipment Owners Lighted
Truck Parade in which the bus participated. All food items
were passed along to the Sidney Lions Food Bank.

.This 1947 international truck is on loan to SHAS and is in
great shape
The SHAS trademark dodge truck was given a bit of a face lift
recently by Al Minnings and is looking
nice and refreshed,
this was quite the
task but the old girl
looks ready to face
another few decades
of work.
REFURBISHED WAGON
RETURNS TO SHAS
YET ANOTHER refurbishment project was
returned to the Tillicum building in January ,
Alan Pugh refinished the fixer upper wagon replacing the reach among other things and putting a new coat of red paint on the wagon chassis
circa 1920. This wagon would likely have been
used with a deck or box to haul logs or hay and
would have been pulled by 2 horses. This artifact
was donated to SHAS in the 60’s by the Deacon
family
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
I suppose everyone is working off the
extra helping of Christmas pudding with
hard sauce and/or custard, including me.
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year. Christmas In
The Village went off well, considering
the large amounts of rain that fell at the
same time. A big Brava Zulu to all who
helped out putting on this show. Once
again, we had lots of good comments
from the people visiting. With spring-
time and drier weather ?? on the way,
some drain repairs and additions are
needed to help reduce the wear and tear
on our roads by all the running water.
There are other projects in the works as
well.
Next month (February 26th) is the
ANNUAL MEETING and ELECTION
So come out and show support for the
members standing for vacant positions.
Finally, the 1947 International grain truck
has arrived. This is on loan to us, and
is at present in the new work building,
so come out and have a look, this is as
close to a brand
new 1947 truck as
you will see in a
long time to
come.
Signing off for
now .
Drippingly yours
Dave
