Overnight Marine Based West Coast Surf Camp
SUMMER CAMPS 2013 West Coast Surf Camp Overnight Marine Based Our talented team of instructors kicks off the program with an introduction to fundamental surf skills and then works throughout the week in the water to develop campers’ individual skill sets as they tackle waves big & small at their own pace. This program is a perfect mix of surfing & lessons, camping, hiking and a whole lot of West Coast fun, for beginner and experienced surfers alike. All surf gear is provided including both short and long boards, and our base at the Ucluelet campground offers nice amenities, including a hot tub & sauna. We surf several beaches around the Tofino/Pacific Rim region culminating with a surf competition and a day of Surf Olympics. This one-week program can be combined with the August Marine Kayaking camp for the two-week Surf & Kayak Program on August 11-23. Whether complete novices or seasoned paddlers, the marine camp is designed to introduce or enhance individual knowledge of kayak strokes, rescues, and navigation, and foster great friendships. After two days of paddle skills, teambuilding and camping on Salt Spring, the group embarks on a unique kayak expedition in the Gulf Islands. Travelling northeast from Salt Spring, our route allows us to explore the eclectic cabin art on Wallace Island, through the swirling waters of Porlier Pass to the magic of Dionisio Point, along ancient Penelakut crushed shell middens at Tent Island and possibly even as far as the legendary Pirates Cove. This program can be combined with the Mountain Camp in July or the Surf Camp in August for an unforgettable 2week West Coast adventure. We will head out through the beautiful island chains north of Salt Spring for the kayak expedition, and to Ucluelet and Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island for the surf program. Campers gain a solid outdoor skill base while building a strong appreciation for West Coast water-based activities. Safety, skill acquisition, friendship, team building and most of all fun are the goals for this two-week program. August 11th-23rd (Ages 12-18) $1795 + HST With two days of team-building, training, climbing and camping on Salt Spring, we head over to Vancouver Island for an alpine expedition on Mt. Arrowsmith.
