Programme 4 years duration Programme is designed as per English education system Initially programme comprised of a 3+1 year structure, with Year 3 being a semester of non-programme specific modules and a semester of industry based work experience. Currently updated to 4 year study structure with industry based work experience incorporated during Semester Break between Semester 6 and Semester 7. Accreditation of Engineering Progammes (ITB) Higher National Diploma programmes awarded by Brunei Darussalam Technical & Vocational Council (BDTVEC) and accredited at national level by Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC). Foundation Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programmes awarded by ITB under ITB Constitution and Charter and accredited at national level by BDNAC. BDNAC recognizes the respective levels of the programmes awarded. Quality control is ensured via Industry Liaison Committees and via internal and external examiners and moderators. External Examiners and Moderators comprise of those from recognised international universities. First graduation of fully local BEng programme in 2013 (recap). In process of obtaining International Accreditation to ensure international recognition and global mobilization of the graduates qualification. Current action is accreditation via signatory institutions such as Engineering Council UK (via its respective professional institution e.g. ICE, IMechE, IET) Summary Human resources and education are given high priority by the Government as Brunei Darussalam aspires to be a well-educated and highly skilled nation and to be among the top countries in the world via its planned targets set in its long term Vision 2035 (Wawasan 2035). Due to the small population, it was previously more economical for students undertaking engineering to be sent to overseas universities. However, the increase in students undertaking engineering in line with the development and requirements of Brunei Darussalam has led to local introduction of the degree programmes. At Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), local engineering undergraduate programmes have been set up, with graduates already successfully produced and working in Industry. The subsequent process is international and accreditation of the engineering programmes for international recognition and global mobilization of the graduates.
