The good news about this Game to Gourmet package, is the entire weekend is still open to you, except for the pheasant hunt itself, even if you don’t have a hunting licence. Q: I am new to hunting and have never bought a licence before. Do I need to take the Hunter Education Certificate? Yes. This is a provincial requirement for all first-time hunters in Alberta. Alberta Hunter Education Instructors’ Association (AHEIA) delivers the Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Course online or as evening/weekend classes in Edmonton and Calgary. One week after you complete the course, AHEIA will issue you a Hunter Education Certificate with a number. You need this number the first time you purchase a hunting licence. Do not wait until the last minute to complete this certificate. Q: What licences do I need to hunt pheasant? If you are an Alberta resident, to hunt pheasant you need: • WiN Card $8.00 + GST (good for 5 years) • Wildlife Certificate $28.22 (Alberta Resident) • Game Bird Licence $15.80 (Canadian Resident) • Pheasant Licence $22.38 (Alberta Resident) Remember: You must have your print and signed Game Bird and Pheasant Licences with you when you hunt. Q: Where can I buy my hunting licences? Online at www.albertarelm.com or at a private licence issuer (e.g., hunting and fishing store). You need a WiN Card to purchase hunting licences. Q: What is a WiN Card? A WiN Card is a Wildlife Identification Number. You must purchase a WiN Card in order to purchase a wildlife certificate and hunting licences. You can buy your WiN Card online at www.albertarelm.com or at a private licence issuer (e.g., hunting and fishing store). Q: Do I need previous firearms training to shoot at the Taber Sport Shooting Complex or Novice Hunt? No. You will receive firearms instruction at both locations. No special licences are needed. Q: Are shotguns provided to shoot at the Taber Sport Shooting Complex or Novice Hunt? Yes. Shotguns are provided. Please do not bring your own firearm. Q: What should I wear? Fall weather in Alberta can vary so come prepared. Long pants, jacket and appropriate footwear is recommended for the Novice Hunt. The Novice Hunt takes place in a controlled environment, so blaze orange or hunting-specific clothing is not necessary. Ear protection and safety glasses are highly recommended. Q: What do I do with my pheasant? We will have a cooler with ice to transport your pheasant back to Calgary.
