Grip DIY Fitting Guidelines Professional recommendation: "...To ensure correct fitting and sizing, I recommend you take your funky golf grips and grip tape to your local PGA professional. They will have all the necessary tools and are qualified to fit your grips correctly. There will be a small service change and will usually take no longer than 24 hours..." Tools Required: Stanley knife (hooked blade is needed for graphite shafts) Double Sided grip tape (supplied) White spirit Towel Workbench with secure vice (optional) Safety Disclaimer All work undertaken at the risk of the user Safety Precautions Never work the blade of the knife towards you, work down the grip away from you. 1a 1b 1c Place shaft of golf club into vice clamp (parallel to the floor in the playing position and secure in vice). Using a stanley knife, cut grip off shaft working away from yourself. Once the grip has been removed, make sure all the tape has been removed from the shaft. This may involve scraping the grip tape off using the blade away from you. Using a clean cloth, rub some white spirit over the shaft to remove any sticky residue from the old grip tape. 2 Apply grip tape (supplied) to the shaft as in diagram, leaving half an inch over the end of the shaft. The extra half an inch at the top of the grip is spread around the top to make sure the grip fits correctly and to stop any excess grip fluid going down the shaft. Remove backing tape from double sided tape. 3 Make sure grip tape is securely wrapped around the shaft. Try not to have any lumps or creases. 3b Tuck excess tape into the end of the golf shaft. 4 Align golf club squarely in the vice. 5 Place your finger over the hole in the butt of the grip and fill the grip approximately 1/3 with white spirit. Shake the grip up and down with white spirit in the grip whilst keeping finger over the hole in butt of grip. 6 Pour white spirit from the grip on to all the grip tape on the golf club. 7 Slip grip onto the shaft over all the tape. 7b Making sure the grip is pushed all the way on to the shaft taking care to align grip correctly. 8 Wipe off excess white spirit. Check alignment of grip (vertical lines on the grip should be in line with the club face). Leave to dry for 30 minutes to 1 hour. NB: If you are removing grips from graphite shafts, be very careful not to scrape or cut into the graphite as you will damage the graphite fibres. A hooked blade is recommended.
