The Ponce Inlet
Corvette Club
March
2005
6:00 p.m.
Volume 1 No. 9
T
he Ponce Inlet Corvette Club originated in March of 2005. The Club has
grown into a respected, active and acknowledged Corvette Club that meets
in Ponce Inlet Florida. In January of 2005, local Ponce Inlet residents Gary and
Dianne Swanhart purchased a new C6 red coupe from local Chevrolet Dealer
Jon Hall. The twist in the story took place shortly after they got the car home. Jon
Hall was contacted by representatives of Wrangler Jeans and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
to see if the Dealership could provide them with a red Corvette to film a Wrangler
Jeans commercial at the Daytona International Speedway. At the time they did
not have another red C6 in stock but they remembered just having delivered a red
C6 coupe to Gary and Dianne. The Swanharts were contacted and asked if they
would be willing to support the filming with their new Corvette. They agreed and
Gary and Dianne took the new C6 to the track and met Dale Jr. During the filming they both got to meet him and had Dale Jr. sign the dash of their new Corvette. Shortly after that event the Club was organized and Jon Hall Chevrolet
became the Club’s first Sponsor. The initial meeting was held on February 22,
2005. Sixteen prospective members from Ponce Inlet, Daytona Beach Shores, Ormond Beach and Port Orange were in attendance. A general design for a “Club
Logo” that depicted the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse with a C5 emblem across the
background of the lighthouse was adopted. Since that initial meeting, the Ponce
Inlet Corvette Club has become well known for attending local car shows, cruiseins and is a Charitable and Social Club. Members are owners of Corvettes from
1959 to 2016. Proceeds from our annual VETTES AT THE LIGHT show and
fund raisers are donated to charity. Our annual car show has become a focal
point of Corvette Clubs and Corvette enthusiasts throughout the state of Florida.

From the Editor
Not only is the weather hot but PICC is ON FIRE. Our events have
been outstanding and the attendance defies the imagination. We are gaining new members at every meeting. Who knew so many could have so
much fun revolving around a CORVETTE. In case you did not know, the
car show is back on the schedule for May 13, 2017 and it appears that enthusiasm is higher across the board. Attend a future planning meeting and
show us what expertise you can bring to the new and improved Light
House show. A special shout out to members Gene Gross and Jack Kumeiga. Hope to see you back real soon and rarin’ to go. If you have an interesting article, a service or talent or just want to be a monthly contributor,
please email your submission to me, also looking for fun easy healthy recipes to share either for food or drinks, please email your information to me
to be included in Member Services. Again this is your club so enjoy it like
it is “ILLEGAL”.

2016.
Is it a Real Corvette
Even as it embraces new technology, the Chevrolet Corvette remains
firmly old school as one of the few
performance cars still available with
a big V8 and a manual transmission
to control it. Now we know exactly
how many Corvette buyers go for this
wonderfully archaic combination,
thanks to recently released data from
Chevrolet. Last week, the National
Corvette Museum published a detailed breakdown of 2016 model year
Corvette production, which revealed
that only 9249 of the 40,689 built
came with manual transmissions.
That works out to be a little under 23
percent of production, which is down
about 10% over 2015's manual Corvette production. Interestingly, only
1241 drop-top Corvettes were
equipped with manuals, of which the
Z06 convertible was the most popular with 590 built. The Z06 coupe
was the most popular manual Corvette of all variants, with a total of
3566 built. For an enthusiast these
numbers seem rather low, but there's
some hope they'll increase with the
2017 model year. With the enthusiast
-targeted Grand Sport finally available and expected to be the most popular variant, it's likely we'll see an
increase of customers choosing to
row their own. Yes, in our perfect
world, the take rate for manual Corvettes would be 100 percent, but in
reality, 23 percent isn't too shabby.
Considering the take rate for manual
transmissions among all U.S.-market
cars typically hovers around 5-7%,
nearly a quarter of all Corvettes sold
is impressive.
Peaches & Cream Pie
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 (3 ounce) package non-instant vanilla
pudding mix
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1 egg
1/2 cup milk

10 inch deep-dish pie pan.
In a medium mixing bowl, mix together
flour, salt, baking powder and pudding
mix. Mix in butter, egg and milk. Beat for
2 minutes. Pour mixture into pie pan.
Arrange the peach slices on top of the
pudding mixture.
In a small mixing bowl, beat cream
cheese until fluffy. Add 1/2 cup sugar
and 3 tablespoons reserved peach syrup.
Beat for 2 minutes. Spoon mixture over
peaches to within 1 inch of pan edge.
Mix together 1 tablespoon sugar and 1
teaspoon cinnamon, and sprinkle over
top .

Color-rama.
There are some REALLY cool new Grand Sport colors combos available. With the advent of the
C7, Chevrolet has really pulled out all the stops when it comes to leveraging color and the Corvette. First off, the car looks good in almost any hue so that’s a great starting point.
When you add in color choices for wheels, brake calipers and hash stripes as well, the combinations become devilishly enticing.
It also can be confusing because, like wandering through a candy store, everything looks good you might feel overwhelmed or
worse, want one of every color.
We say to anyone in who is going to order a new Corvette to spend time at ‘Vette car shows, online forums, and dealerships to
really get acquainted with the choices available to a Corvette buyer. See how others have equipped their car and use that as a
template for your order or find one in dealer stock that closely matches your wish list. If You Want A Low Production Corvette,
There Are Three Special Edition Models That Carry Over To 2017.
These packages come in Black Suede, Spice Red or Twilight Blue “flavors,” and can be ordered on most models including the
big daddy Z06. Don’t be fooled by the pictures as each of these special models are offered in four colors. The best part is they
are all smokin’ hot and can alleviate “option list overload.” Instead of a deep, drill down to order-form minutia, just click one of
these special edition boxes and voila’, you’re almost done.
These three packages were some of the lowest produced models of 2016, (excluding the C7.R and Z06 Convertible), and if you’re
a fussy serial number guy–like us–these are the real sleepers if your looking to add a lo-pro addition to the stable.

Q. I like to keep my gas tank full
in case of traffic tie-ups, but is it
bad for the engine not to let the
old gas get used up first?
Gasoline does lose octane gradually over time, and old gas sitting
in your tank for two months or
longer can create residues, but for
a car that’s used regularly, that
isn’t a problem, says John Ibbotson, chief mechanic at Consumer
Reports’ Auto Test Center. “The
new gas will mix with what’s already in your tank, and any variance in the octane will be adjusted for automatically by your car’s
engine computer.” The octane
levels in old gas could be a concern only if you’re storing your
car for six months or longer, in
which case you can add a gasoline additive (or stabilizer) to preserve it. And to further help keep
your engine clean, consider using
a higher grade fuel called Top
Tier detergent gasoline, which
contains more additives than currently required by the Environmental Protection Agency. Based
on recent testing conducted by
AAA, Top Tier gas can reduce
engine deposits and even clean an
engine that has been running on
cheap gas.

2017 Corvette All New Just 4 U
For those of us “Plastic Fantastic” fans who
might not have been paying attention to model year
changes, the 2016 Corvette production run quietly
came to an end on June 23rd of this year and Chevrolet wasted no time pushing out the official 2017
models the very next day. The 2017 Z06 will be on
hiatus until September of this year and while you
can’t buy one until then, we have details for the big
kahuna ‘Vette as well. In the meantime, we were
browsing through Chevy’s sales material and found
some very interesting data on the finer details and
changes of the 2017 Base Model and Grand Sport
Corvette. For old school guys, the days of one
model and a couple of wheel choices are long gone.
In fact, the latest Corvette has so many options and
bespoke touches, it’s hard to keep track. Follow
along and we’ll short hand the updates and bring
you up to date on the most customizable, factory
Corvette ever offered. The big news is obviously
the availability of the Grand Sport model. Whether
you hoose coupe or convertible–we like the name
“roadster” better–the car is essentially a naturally
aspirated Z06 with the wide fender body kit, Z07
suspension and unique details and trim. If the addition of the Grand Sport wasn’t enough to push you
to the brink of orgasm, there are two special editions exclusive to the Grand Sport available to help
fluff you up. By checking the order box for the Heritage Package or Collector Edition–the latter available later in the year–you can add even more exclusivity to your GS if just having one isn’t enough
There are four new colors: Watkins Glen Gray,
Black Rose Metallic, Sterling Blue Metallic, and
Admiral Blue. Tick the box for the bitchin’ Satin
Black Hood Stinger Stripe and suddenly it’s 1967
again. Look closely at these cheat sheets and see
that you can really get down to a granular level
when ordering your Corvette. One can specify
steering wheel material, embroidered logos, and
paddle shifter stitching and headliners colors.
There Are Over Twenty Wheels Available.
We sometimes wonder if aftermarket wheel manufacturers are feeling the pinch from Chevrolet’s extensive catalog of available wheels options. There are black, chrome, painted, polished, and redline wheels available in almost any combination of the aforementioned finishes, and here’s the kicker, there’s not a turd in the bunch.
These factory wheels range from 18 to 19 inches in diameter and up to 12 inches wide. These are high performance wheels and when shod with high-end tires like Michelin Pilots, you could argue that a Chevy has created
quite a detour to funnel ‘Vette buyer’s extra money into General Motors pockets. We’re especially fond of the
Z06 and new Grand Sport wheels, but without blinking we could say we’d be happy with any of these wheels.
For all you guys and gals out there who are super particular about details–like us–there are six friggin’ wheel
centers available for your perusal as well.

14 years ago, most businesses hadn't
even heard of 3D printing, let alone experimented with printing objects in material like plastic or metal. But one research institute was already laying the
foundation for building its own 3D printer for an altogether more complex material: human tissue.
Tissue and organs transplants have
been used in medicine for decades to help
patients whose own tissue has become
diseased or damaged -- skin grafts for
burns victims, for example, or using a
piece of patellar tendon to replace a ruptured ligament. Typically they come from
donors or are moved from a healthy part
of a patient's body to a damaged part, but
scientists from Wake Forest Institute for
Regenerative Medicine (WFIRM) have
developed a prototype printer that could
one day be used to print tissue sections
designed to fit a person's unique condition.
Initially, WFIRM researchers began
working on building human tissue from
cells by hand. First cells were removed
from patients through biopsies -- where
small samples of tissue are explanted to
help physicians with diagnoses -- then
cultured, to increase numbers. The cells
are put on a scaffold, placed into an incubator and, once the tissue has grown into
the desired construct, returned to a patient. It was a labour intensive process,
and one that yielded tissue that wasn't
strong enough to be used in human patients.
We started using the inkjet printer to
experiment, to see how we could make it
work... we could get the cells through the
hydrogel, but we couldn't get the precision in terms of where we laid the cells
down, and the structures didn't have the
structural integrity necessary to be implanted surgically. We started looking at
more sophisticated printing that we could
achieve, and we started doing that by
basically constructing our own printing
devices," Atala said.
