As August was ending, when I was already thinking about my upcoming fall wardrobe needs (I am a stylist,
after all, fall is my Christmas! Though Christmas is also my Christmas…), I took a bit of time from planning
Stilista’s summer to fall transition to plan a fun evening out for the Stilista team. We were getting together at
the Hotel Indigo pool and I wanted to look fabulous, but not like I was trying too hard. My goal was laid-back
summer glam, and thanks to Be Styled (http://bestyled.com, 617-734-4000) a blow-dry bar in Chestnut Hill’s
glitzy new shopping and eating destination, I achieved the look with minimal effort on my part. BeStyled is a
new venture from the people that brought us Salon Capri and its multiple locations. Picking up on a rising
trend in the beauty industry, this concept offers hair styling, plain and simple. Whether you have a night out
(like I did), a regular need for professional blow-dry’s or just a pick-me-up after a long week, you can make an
appointment and get styled into a smooth-hair goddess, all while sipping tea or a cocktail! What stood out to
be about BeStyled is their beautiful yet simple décor, and how nice everyone was. My stylist (Kelly) was sweet
and down to earth, engaging me in conversation and politely quieting down when I hit relaxation levels that
were no longer conducive to talking. The other ladies at the lounge were also friendly and helpful, even
snapping a pic of me and my hairstyle (above). Added bonus: I got to watch a perfectly girly film while getting
styled (13 going on 30), and the absence of mirrors in front of my chair allowed me to enjoy the atmosphere
instead of staring myself in the face and dissecting my make-up job as I do at my hair salon. It’s important to
note that BeStyled offers multiple options for your hair style: be smooth (the straight and sleek look), be soft
(ends curve in at the end), be swirly (bouncy, tousled waves), be swanky (cultured, glossy waves), be trendy (the
featured monthly style) and be you (whatever you want). Most styles are $35, with be trendy being $35 – $45,
depending on the complexity of the style. Naturally, I opted for the most involved one: be trendy, which in
August was an old-Hollywood, side-pinned array of large, round waves. You see, I didn’t want to be boring! The
result was beautiful, fun and didn’t have the formality and stiffness of a salon up-do. I got lots of compliments
all evening, and my hair was easy to deconstruct at the end of the night and still looked quite nice the next day!
I hope to return to BeStyled with a girlfriend or two to share the experience!
