January’s Powerball jackpot was one for the record
books. What an exciting time! We hope you
enjoyed the anticipation that swept the nation as
the jackpot rose to $1.5 billion and customer lines
grew. The jackpot sequence started Nov. 7, and
by the time the jackpot was hit Jan. 13, retailers
had made almost $6 million in commissions, with $4.1 million in
commissions earned in just the last two drawings of the sequence ending
Jan. 13. Thank you for meeting customer demand during this time of
jackpot fever. Ohio players took home more than $7.6 million in prizes
for the record-setting Powerball drawing.
Highlights of that Powerball run and information on some of its biggest
winners here in Ohio can be found on page 7. While Ohio didn’t hit the
jackpot prize, the Ohio Lottery and its retailers sold some substantial
prizes. Take a look and post the information for your customers.

Jackpot roll keeps retailers humming
As the jackpot grew, so did the lines of Ohio Lottery retailers. In the $1.5 billion
Powerball jackpot drawing Jan. 13, sales totaled $36.9 million across the state.
Retailers earned a total of $4.1 million in commissions for the Jan. 9 and Jan. 13
drawings alone.
During that final week, starting Jan. 6, the jackpot rolled to $500 million for the
Jan. 6 drawing, then to $900 million Jan. 9 before reaching $1.5 billion Jan. 13.
In that final drawing, Ohio players shared more than $7.6 million in prizes.

The Wizard of Oz. He never buys
Lottery tickets, but out of the clear
blue he asked Dorothy, an employee
of Fruth Pharmacy in Proctorville,
to pick out a $10 ticket assortment.
She picked out The Wizard of Oz
-- one of her favorites. The rest is
history. The extra cash will cover
bills and future surgery for Jacob.
B. Triple Black 777 winner •
December 2015
William Bensie of Rayland and his
wife Andrea celebrate his win in
the Ohio Lottery’s top prize drawing
for the $5 Triple Black 777 instant
game. He’ll take home $77,777
before taxes. The win came at a
great time. The Bensies will share
their winnings with their four
children and buy a sofa, refrigerator
and a car.

2016
David Hall of Middleport ended the
holiday season with a $50,000
win playing $3 Holiday Bingo. He
and Kelly Tryree, the parents of five
small children, have many needs for
