Newcastle The Event The Newcastle Yowies Sports Association has been established for 22 years. The Club supports Rugby League, Touch Football, Cricket, Golf and Netball Teams. Location / Dates Lakeside Oval, Raymond Terrace Friday 3rd, Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th and Monday 6th October 2014 Touch Football Yowie Touch teams started in the mid 1990’s, competing in local competitions and various carnivals around the state. Yowies Touch team have been competing in First Contact Sports and Cultural Festival Touch Carnival since 1997. Yowies Men’s Open side were winners of the plate on two occasions in 2000 and 2009, Runners Up in 2002 and overall Winners of the Men’s Open Division in 1999 and 2004. The Yowies continue to support the event in Brisbane each year by sending a Men’s Open and Mixed team. The Yowie Cup, which was an invitational Carnival was run successfully for 3 consecutive years 2002 - 2004. Cricket Yowies have been a major sponsor of the Cricket Team, which have participated in the Newcastle City and Suburban Cricket Association (NCSCA) competition for the past 21 years. We have qualified for the finals on many occasions, were named NCSCA team of the year in 2002/2003 season. Yowie Cricket Team highlights include Grand Final Winners in 91/92, 98/99, 03/04, 09/10. Yowie Cricket Team was fortunate enough to travel to Fiji in 2000 and were the winners of the Competition Plate, with a Yowie Cricket Player scoring 161 n/o, which was the highest individual score in the history of the Carnival. The Knockout The Annual New South Wales Aboriginal Rugby League Knockout is an event that involves teams representing, Communities and Families from all over the state of NSW. This significant event has been operating for 44 years. For our Aboriginal Communities of NSW, the Knockout is the biggest gathering of our people in the calendar year, attracting 92 Rugby League Teams, and over 20,000 spectators. Throughout the history of the Knockout, one thing has remained strong…This event is run by the Community for the Community, instilling the notion of strength in Self Determination and Community Leadership. The Knockout is viewed as our modern day Corroboree, a time for gathering, celebrating and reuniting with family and friends all over the state. Games Itinerary Official Opening will be Friday 3rd October 2014 at 8.00am including a Under 7’s Invitational Game All Womens and Youth games will commence on Friday 3rd October 2014 with each final being played on Monday 6th October 2014 Mens competition will commence at 8am Saturday 4th October 2014 and conclude with the grand final on Monday 6th October 2014 Community Services Elders Tent, Immunisation, Health Checks, Community Market
