All rights reserved. stephskardal.com Instructions A single yard of fabric is divided into three sections: the animal mat top, the mat base, and the letter base. Cut along the outside of the middle section outline (turquoise). Place one small magnet (facing up) over all the pink magnet spots on the letters and mat base. Tape each magnet in place with wash away wonder tape or athletic tape. Important: Make sure all magnets are facing the same direction. After all magnets have been taped, all magnets should stick together if you lay the letter base directly on top of the mat base. Copyright 2015 Steph Skardal. All rights reserved. stephskardal.com With the temporary basting spray, baste the stiff interfacing to the top of the letter layer. Baste the medium interfacing to the top of the mat base layer. Sew all magnets into place (through the interfacing and two layers). It will be hard to sew a perfect circle around each magnet, so any closed perimeter is acceptable. With the temporary basting spray, baste the wrong side of top animal mat to the top of interfacing on the base mat. Make sure the perimeter is lined up and the “top” label is lined up with the alligator. Copyright 2015 Steph Skardal. All rights reserved. stephskardal.com Place the top of the animal mat against your mat bottom fabric (right sides together) and sew together with a 1/2” seam. Leave a small area open on one side. Flip the mat outside in. Press the edges and topstitch around the edge with a 1/4” or 1/2” seam. Baste the wrong side of the top letter fabric to the top of interfacing on the letter layer. From the back, cut the letters out on the outside of each letter outline. Copyright 2015 Steph Skardal. All rights reserved. stephskardal.com Baste the bottom of the letters to the wrong side of the bottom letter fabric. Cut the letters out. Topstitch along the edge of each letter with a 1/8” seam. Trim all thread and clean up rough edges of letters. Optionally, apply a fray sealant (e.g. Dritz Fray Check) to minimize letter fraying. Enjoy & Thanks!
