The world is vast – and there are so many places to discover. Journeys in the California are as
much fun as arriving at your destination. It is not just a comfortable camper van but a real home
on wheels equipped with everything you need en route. It is also extremely fuel-efficient and
overcomes both roads and difficult terrain. What will be your first port of call?

California means loving nature for what it is.
Nature is beautiful – but sometimes it brings us pouring rain, slippery roads and sudden fog. This
won’t worry you in the California as you have reassuring all-round protection. Electronic safety
systems help to keep the vehicle on track and innovative driver assistance systems, available as options, offer you even more comfort and convenience on your travels so that you can enjoy nature

Those who appreciate nature, treat it with special respect. This does not only become evident in
your choice of destination but also in the way you travel there – in a vehicle offering engines that
have significantly lower consumption than previous versions and therefore produce less emissions. There are five economical TDIs* with innovative common rail technology and one modern,
powerful TSI* in the range of engines for the California. You can also choose a California with
BlueMotion Technology for even more environmentally conscious driving – so that you will spend
less time at the filling station and more in the great outdoors.

The California with BlueMotion Technology gives you the good feeling of saving up to 0.5 litres of
fuel per 100 km in comparison with a California model without BlueMotion Technology, of keeping
pollutant emission as low as possible, and therefore of placing less burden on the environment. This
is made possible by a combination of innovative technologies such as regenerative braking, the
start/stop system, and tyres with optimised rolling resistance – and by the economical engines. You
have a choice of two 2.0 l TDI engines with 62 kW1), 2) and 84 kW1) as well as a 2.0 l TDI engine with
103 kW1) and a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox3).

California means taking the most exciting route,
not the easiest.
The most attractive places are often waiting just around the next corner. You may encounter a few
surprises on your way there: mud tracks, loose gravel, steep inclines, snow or rain – but this won’t
cause any delay as the California can be equipped with 4MOTION permanent all-wheel drive. Should
a wheel lose traction due to poor weather conditions or uneven surfaces, the 4MOTION all-wheel
drive intervenes and variably distributes torque between the front and rear axle. For you, this means
a safe journey, even off the beaten track, when driving on demanding slopes or through shallow water.
The California Beach.
Just one look at the California Beach will make you want to take a seaside holiday and head
straight for the beach. Once you are there, you can enjoy the mild evening air and spend the night
beneath the standard elevating roof directly where the waves break on the shore and let the
sound of the waves lull you to sleep. The attractive paint finishes for the California Beach, such as
Sunny Yellow, complete the enticing picture.
On long journeys in particular, you will appreciate the de luxe front seats with armrests and lumbar
support. They offer the driver and front passenger ideal lateral support and ensure maximum
comfort. The 2-seater bench seat is secured to rails in the floor and has an almost infinite sliding
adjustment. Folding down the backrest creates a comfortable sleeping surface measuring 1.55 x
2.01 m. A folding table completes the interior fittings and can be stowed in the sliding door when
not in use – and, while you rest and relax, the standard blinds housed in the roof frame can be
pulled down to assure your privacy.

The California Comfortline.
Every journey makes a lasting impression – and so does the California Comfortline. The impressive
front end features distinctive chrome trim and standard halogen headlights. Fog lights complete
the elegant overall appearance. The turning lights make journeys in the California Comfortline not
only pleasant but also safer at blind intersections and road junctions. The California Comfortline
cuts an equally fine figure when parked with the standard elevating roof raised.
No matter how relaxing a holiday is, it also makes you hungry. The California Comfortline is therefore equipped with a fully functional kitchen unit. The 2-burner gas hob ensures relaxed cooking
and food supplies can be kept in the 42-litre compressor cool box. After your meal, the camping
crockery and cutlery can be washed in the sink and then put away in the drawer and tray underneath.
Another drawer under the bench seat provides additional storage space. The optional “Climatronic”
3-zone air conditioning system ensures a pleasant climate during the journey as the driver, front
passenger, and rear passengers can set their individually preferred temperature.
