DRUG SITUATION REPORT/SIGNIFICANT
EVENTS REPORT FOR INDIA FOR THE MONTH
OF JANUARY 2014

This report is based on the information received
from various State and Central drug law enforcement
agencies till the end of January 2014. Significant
seizures effected earlier but reported during January
2014 are also incorporated in this report.

SEIZURES EFFECTED IN THE MONTH OF JANUARY, 2014
On 01.01.2014, Officers of the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Neemcuh, MP seized
3770.170 kg of Poppy Straw near Kesarpura village, Neemuch-Chittorgarh Road.
The drug was concealed in plastic bags and transported by a truck.
On 03.01.2014. Officers of the NCB Mandi Sub Zone intercepted a car and seized
1.006 kg of Hashish from the possession of four persons at Kullu. The drug was
concealed in false cavity made in the roof of the car. They were arrested.
On 03.01.2014, Officers of the Customs Preventive, Attari Rail, Amritsar seized
40 grams of Opium along with 2 Pistols, 4 Magazines & 2 Cleaning rods from 68
down Lahore-Amritsar goods train. The drug was concealed near wheels & excels
of the wagon. The suspected source of the seized drug was Pakistan.
On 03.01.2014, Officers of the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Lucknow seized
0.500 kg of Heroin from the possession of one person. The drug was concealed in
white transparent polythene and kept in bag. He was arrested.
On 06.01.2014, Officers of the NCB Mumbai Zonal Unit seized 18.000 kg of
Ephedrine Powder from the possession of one lady of Zimbabwe Nationality at
CSI Airport Mumbai. The intended destination of the lady was Delhi. She was
arrested.
On 07.01.2014, Officers of the CBN, Ghazipur, UP seized 1.300 kg Hashish &
32.300 kg Ganja near Bus Stand Varanasi. The drug was recovered from a
person carrying Canvas Bag and Suitcase. He was arrested.
On 08.01.2014, Officers of the NCB Imphal Sub Zone seized 32.5 grams of
Heroin from the possession of one person. He was arrested.
On 08.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Mumbai Zonal Unit seized 9.900 Kg of
Hashish from a courier parcel. The drug was concealed inside the parcels of
Metal Flower Pots. The intended destination of the parcel was United Kingdom.
On 09.01.2014, Officers of the NCB Imphal Sub Zone seized 61 grams of Heroin
from the possession of one person. He was arrested.
On 09.01.2014, Officers of the State Police, Amritsar seized 4.000 kg of Heroin.
The drug was concealed in 04 packets with marking “Junaid and Company 0500”
and “Urdu stamps 2007”. The suspected source of the seized drug was South
Western Asia. One person was arrested.
On 10.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Mumbai Zonal Unit seized 4.5 grams of
Cocaine at Mumbai. Three persons were arrested.
On 10.01.2014, Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Guwahati
seized 2172.220 kg of Ganja from a truck. The drug was concealed a secret
chamber at the front side of the body and just behind the cabin/cap of the truck.
One person was arrested.
On 10.01.2014, Officers of the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Neemuch, MP seized
0.500 kg of Heroin from the possession of one person at railway station. The drug
was concealed in transparent polythene and kept in shirt. He was arrested.
On 10.01.2014, Officers of the State Police, Goa seized 14 grams of Ganja at
Bardez, Goa. One Ghana National was arrested.
On 11.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Chandigarh Zonal Unit seized 10.600 Kg of
Hashish at Chandigarh. The drug was concealed inside the three Briefcases.
Three persons were arrested.
On 12.01.2014, Officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Lucknow seized
1.050 kg of Heroin. The drug was recovered from the possession of one pitthubag
carried by one person. He was arrested.
On 13.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Jodhpur Zonal Unit seized 15.000 Kg of
Opium at Jodhpur. Two persons were arrested.
On 13.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Mumbai Zonal Unit seized a parcel of 74
bathing towels at the premises of a courier company at Andheri, Mumbai. The
towels were impregnated with contraband purported to be Ketamine. Three
foreign nationals (2 Nigerian & 1 Mozambique Nationals) were arrested in the
case.
On 14.01.2014, Officers of the State Police, Goa seized 785 grams Hashish, 5.5
grams Cocaine, 2.5 grams LSD & 72 grams MDMA at Pernem, Goa. One Potugal
National was arrested.
On 15.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Guwahati Zonal Unit seized 4.308 Kg (7028
Nos.) Capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon.
On 16.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Imphal Sub Zone seized 1.780 Kg of Opium
from the possession of one person. He was arrested.
On 17.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Delhi Zonal Unit seized 0.460 Kg of Heroin
from a parcel at the premises of a courier company at Sultanpur, Delhi. The drug
was concealed in parcel of 16 ladies’ handbags & 12 purses. The suspected
destination of the seized drug was China. In follow up operation conducted on
18.01.2014 one Nigerian National named Sampson Samuel Okoro was arrested.
On 18.01.2014, Officers of the Border Security Force, Ferozpur recovered 3.980
Kg of Heroin near Border Pillar No.195/1-2, BOP DT MAL, Indo-Pakistan Border.
The recovered drug was handed over to the NCB, Amritsar Sub Zone for action
under the NDPS Act. The suspected source of the drug was South West Asia.
On 19.01.2014, Officers of the State Police, Delhi seized 10.000 kg Heroin near
Huyamyun’s Tomb, Nizamuddin, New Delhi. The drug was concealed in
transparent polythene packets. Three person were arrested.
On 21.01.2014, Officers of the Border Security Force, Amritsar recovered 19.900
Kg of Heroin along with one Chinese Pistol, Two magazine, 12 live rounds and
one Nokia mobile phone and one Pakistan SIM card near Border Pillar No.122/22,
BOP N/Dhalla, Indo-Pakistan Border. The recovered drug was handed over to the
NCB, Amritsar Sub Zone for action under the NDPS Act. The suspected source of
the drug was South West Asia.
On 21.01.2014, Officers of the Central Bureau of Narcotics, Ujjain, MP seized
2.075 kg of Heroin from the possession of one person. The drug was concealed in
two polythene bags and further kept inside a cloth bag. The suspected destination
of the seized drug was Srilank via Chennai. One person was arrested.
On 22.01.2014, Officers of the Border Security Force, Ferozpur recovered 16.000
Kg of Heroin along with one Pistol (Star mark .30 mm bore), one magazine and
05 live rounds near Border Pillar No.183/8, BOP Kassoke, Indo-Pakistan Border.
The recovered drug was handed over to the NCB, Amritsar Sub Zone for action
under the NDPS Act. The suspected source of the drug was South West Asia.
On 22.01.2014, Officers of the Kolkata Zonal Unit seized 0.900 Kg of Hashish.
Two persons including one Nepal National were arrested.
On 22.01.2014, Officers of Customs, Air Intelligence Unit, Mumbai Airport seized
14.967 kg of Methaqualone CSI Airport, Mumbai form the zipper strolley bag of
one passenger. The suspected destination of the seized drug was South Africa.
One Zambia National was arrested.
On 23.01.2014, Officers of Customs, Air Intelligence Unit, Kolkata Airport seized
4.000 kg of Hashish at NSCBI Airport, Kolkata form the checked in baggage of
one passenger. The suspected destination of the seized drug was China. One
Nepal National was arrested.
On 24.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Bangalore Zonal Unit seized 2.890 Kg of
Hashish from a parcel at Bangalore. The suspected destination of the seized drug
was USA.
On 24.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Kolkata Zonal Unit seized 3180 Tablets of
Nitrozepam & 5.000 Kg (10,000 Nos.) Capsules of Dextropropoxyphene at NSCBI
Airport, Kolkata. One person was arrested.
On 24.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Guwahati Zonal Unit seized 1200 Bottles of
Phensedyl Cough Syrup from four parcels at Guwahati Railway Station. The drug
was concealed in shredded cloths and further packed in Bags. Two persons were
arrested.
On 25.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Chennai Zonal Unit seized 123 grams of
Cocaine, 10 grams of Methaqualone and 15 grams of Heroin at Chennai. One
Tanzanian National was arrested.
On 25.01.2014, Officers of the State Police, Goa seized 1.100 kg Hashish at
Bardez, Goa. One Costa Rica National was arrested.
On 27.01.2014 & 29.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Chennai Zonal Unit seized 350
grams of Heroin from two parcels at the premises of two courier companies at
Chennai. The suspected destination of the seized drug was South Africa and
Canada. One South Africa National was arrested.
On 28.01.2014, Officers of Air Customs Preventive, IGI Airport, New Delhi seized
16.000 kg of Methaqualone at IGI Airport, New Delhi form the baggage of one
passenger. The suspected destination of the seized drug was South Africa. One
South African National was arrested.
On 29.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Lucknow Zonal Unit seized 1.200 Kg of
Morphine at Barabanki (UP). One person was arrested.
On 30.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Indore Zonal Unit seized 5.000 Kg of Opium
at Railway Station, Neemuch. Three persons were arrested.
On 30.01.2014, Officers of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Kolkata with
the help of Customs, Siliguri and Group of Armed Police personnel Siliguri
intercepted a truck and Gypsy at Fulbari Toll Gate, District Jalpaiguri, West
Bengal and seized 9310 kg of Ganja along with 4 Pistols (made in USA), 1 AK-47,
1 MP-5 Submachine Gun (made in Germany), 2 Air Guns, 23 Live rounds (.65
caliber bullets), 90 Live rounds (.22 caliber bullets) & 39 Live rounds (7.65 caliber
bullets). The drug & arms ammunitions were transported in fake army convoy of a
6 wheeler carrier truck escorted by a white colour Gypsy. Both the vehicles having
fake numbers plate and camouflaged as army vehicles. Nine occupants of both
vehicles were also dressed as army personnel. All nine persons were arrested.
On 31.01.2014, Officers of the Border Security Force, 32 Bn., recovered 1.980 Kg
of Heroin with FICN of Rs.2. Lacs, near Border Pillar No.536-538, BOP Dewra,
Akhnoor along Indo-Pakistan Border. The recovered drug was handed over to the
NCB, Jammu Zonal Unit for action under the NDPS Act. The suspected source of
the drug was South West Asia.
On 31.01.2014, Officers of the NCB, Jammu Zonal Unit seized 6.023 Kg of
Hashish at Main Gate (VIP), Railway Station, Jammu Tawi. The drug was
concealed in four packets and further packed in a bag. One person was arrested.
In an operation launched to destroy illicit cannabis cultivation in Sipaihijilla District
of Tripura, the officers of the Narcotics Control Bureau, Guwahati Zonal Unit
destroyed illicit cannabis cultivation over 123 acres of land in two cases on
15.01.2014 to 17.01.2014.
In an operation launched to destroy illicit Opium Poppy cultivation in the area of
Baruni Hills, East Imphal district of Manipur, the officers of the Narcotics Control
Bureau, Guwahati Zonal Unit destroyed illicit opium poppy cultivation over 15
acres of land on 29.01.2014.
During the month of January, 2014, Officers of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) seized
54.551 kg of Hashish, 414.26 kg of Ganja and 0.236 kg of Heroin in twenty five
cases and arrested twenty eight persons including six Nepal Nationals. The
suspected source of the seized drugs in most of these cases is Nepal.
During the month of January, 2014, officers of the Customs, FPO, New Delhi
intercepted three parcels containing 0.290 kg of Heroin & 0.730 kg of Hashish. The
suspected destinations of seized drugs were Spain & China.
SEIZURES EFFECTED EARLIER BUT REPORTED IN NOVEMBER, 2013
During the month of December, 2013 Officers of the Railway Protection Force,
Uttar Pradesh seized 19.600 kg of Ganja and 2.670 kg powder of Diazepam in 21
cases and arrested 21 persons.
During the month of December, 2013, Officers of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB)
seized 52.132 kg of Hashish, 95.000 kg of Ganja and 0.109 kg of Heroin in thirteen
cases and arrested twelve persons including seven Nepal Nationals. The
suspected source of the seized drugs in most of these cases is Nepal.
