November 10, 2012 pattern notes The stockings are worked in the round, from the top down, with short row heels. CHARTS All charts except for the Hard Candy Argyle and Little Kisses should be repeated on the front and back. When working the charts, whenever there are 6 or more stitches of the same colour, twist the working yarn with the non-working (floating) yarn(s) every 3–4 stitches. This will prevent long yarn floats on the inside of the stocking, which could snag on the candy. Be sure to keep the yarn floats loose while working the charts, or the stocking will end up looking puckered. GARTER STITCH Rnd 1 k all sts Rnd 2 p all sts LEG Select a chart to work for the leg (see the last three pages of the pattern). All charts have half of the total stitches and should be repeated twice, except for the Hard Candy Argyle and Little Kisses charts, which should be worked once. Alternatively, you could work the 18 rnds of the leg in a solid colour or in stripes. HEEL Row 1 k7, w&t. This is left side of heel, and is made up of the first 7 stitches of the rnd to center the design properly over the heel. Row 2 sl wrapped st, p13, w&t. (All 15 heel sts should be on one needle, and the other 15 sts should be on the other needle if using a circular needle, or divided between the other 2 needles if using double-pointed needles). Row 3 sl wrapped st, k12, w&t. Row 4 sl wrapped st st, p11, w&t. Row 5 sl wrapped st, k10, w&t. HEEL—SHORT ROWS Row 6 sl wrapped st, p9, w&t. w&t To wrap and turn, slip the next st onto the right needle, pass the yarn in front, and wrap the yarn around the base of the stitch. Turn to work the next row. On the next row, the pattern will ask you to “sl wrapped st” (slip wrapped stitch) to the right needle. Row 7 sl wr st, k8, w&t. Work wrapped stitch Using the right needle, lift the wrap around the stitch onto the left needle, and knit or purl into both the stitch and its wrap as one. LOOP Fold the cuff down at the point where the garter stitch ends. At the heel side of the cuff, pick up 3 sts and work in i-cord for about 6 inches, or double the desired length of the loop. Cut yarn leaving a 6" tail, pull through sts using a yarn needle, and tie off. Using the tail, sew the top of the i-cord to the base to form a loop. FINISHING Weave in ends and block. Rep last 2 rnds until 10 sts remain.
