Postmodernism is a complicated term, really more of a set of ideas, and while originating near the end of WWII, the movement did not become an interest of academic study until the mid-1980s. Postmodernism is difficult to define because it is a concept that manifests within a multitude of academic and artistic genres including art, architecture, music, film, literature, sociology, communications, fashion, and technology. The characteristics of Postmodernism are similar to those found in Modernism although Postmodernism presents itself in a more playful stance--celebratory of the craziness and insanity of the world. Feeling no instances of universal truths, the time period become widely recognized as a movement, epic in scope, comprised of innovative techniques and a wide range of psychological and intellectual impact--resulting in numerous edgy pieces of literature, art and film. http://www.onpostmodernism.com/movies http://listverse.com/2009/02/13/top-10-works-of-postmodern-literature/ Postmodern literature is literature characterized by reliance on narrative techniques such as fragmentation, paradox, and the unreliable narrator .
