public at the November
Regional Arts Network seminar
On October 26, 2013, the Arts Council and City of Lake Charles hosted ArtsFest, a
free arts festival which fosters an interest in learning by providing hands-on art
projects for children. In the weeks leading up to ArtsFest, students submitted artwork
of re-imagined Fairytales, Myths & Legends. The winners received a 31 piece drawing
box set, donated by Walmart, and they are as follows:

Thank you for making this year’s Lake Area gallery crawl a
smashing success! Over two dozen galleries, museums, art
spaces, and businesses opened
their doors for the evening, and
across Lake Charles and Sulphur, locals took to the
streets to experience the best in
Lake Area artists and exhibits.

Open house &
Art Market
The City of Lake Charles and
the Arts Council invite the
public to the Central School
Arts & Humanities Center on
Thursday, December 5th,
from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
for a festive Holiday Open
House. From top to bottom,
Central School will glow with
the joy of the holiday season
with extensive Christmas lighting and holiday ornamentation. Visitors
will be able to experience the facility's rich heritage as a vital arts center
and learn about the arts organizations, programs, and events that Central
School houses throughout the year.
In rooms 106 and 108 the Holiday Art Market will return from 3:00
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on
Friday, and it will offer an array of fine and handmade items by local
artists, with 10% of the proceeds helping to fund scholarships for local
children attending the Calcasieu Parish School Board Arts Camp.
Among some of the displays guests can expect to see are a Nutcracker
Exhibit in the Art Associates Gallery, You Can't Stop the Art, a student
art exhibit from SOWELA Technical Community College in the Black
Heritage Gallery, and fine watercolor and mixed media pieces from
Dewey Fine Art. The Children’s Theatre Company and Itinerant
Theatre will also give sneak peeks of performances, and the S.J. Welsh
Art Club will sell handmade artwork to raise funds for the student club.
Central School's arts organizations, museums, galleries, and studios,
including the Mardi Gras Museum and the Lake Charles Symphony,
will open their doors to showcase the arts initiatives that Central School
has helped to incubate.
Nominations for Mayor’s Arts Awards are accepted year-round,
and the awards ceremony, hosted by the Arts Council and City of
Lake Charles, is held at Central School each October during Donation stations will be set up at the buildings main entrance for art
National Arts & Humanities Month. For more information on supplies (crayons, makers, paint, pencils, etc.) which will be donated to a
school in need. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
