New Signage on the course –It looks fantastic and
provides up to date information on all four Tee
distances. Pro Signs completed the design work
and our staff and volunteers placed the signs on
site.
The website is being updated—the new distances
will appear on the website along with an up to
date calendar for your ability to check out whats
happening on the golfing schedule.
Bar person– we need to have another backup barperson.
This is paid part time work on a very irregular basis but
necessary so Geoff and Gary have assistance during functions and tournaments. Call Lina in the office if you interested.
Look at these two handsome fellas!!!
Mark and I were at the Black Caps v
Sri Lanka at the University Oval today.
Were sitting just in front of the
grandstand - happened to be the
right place as the Sky TV cameramen
and associates were beside us - no
we were not glory seekingLaura Goldsmith (Guptil) was there too bad Martin was out 1st ball Grelly tried to chat her up as you
would suspect. I was much more
circumspect!!
Anyway - sitting in this great position
- between innings we were asked if
we would like to carry the cup
around the ground while the likes of
Mark Greatbatch, Rod Latham and
Chris Harris were throwing balls
into the crowd. Have to say the
majority of the crowd were more
interested in catching whatever than
the 2 handsome fellas with a cup.
My God it was heavy - they said it
weighed 13kgs but Grelly and I reckon more like 30. We both had sore
arms after carrying it!!
It is the real thing - yes this is the
cup that will be presented to whoever in Melbourne in a few weeks
time. We were a bit chuffed having
had the opportunity to be part of .
Not too many comments now Cheers

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS
Fishers Original Foods have bought Marlowe
Pies. Brendan Murray is still involved in the business but as you all know Brendan and Marlowe
Pies have been longstanding tee sponsors and
supporters of St Clair Golf Club in the past few
years. Marlowe pies are served in the café.
The men from Fishers Original Foods, Adrian
Cashmore, Glen Laing and Dave Murray are members who play regularly on Friday afternoons and
became new sponsors last year of the St Clair Golf
Club Championships. I am sure all members
would wish great success to all involved in the
merging of these two businesses.
there is ‘active’ contact with the brand name.

your vehicle this year. The vehicles
will be on site for the duration of

IMPORTANT HANDICAPPING UPDATE
You will be aware that following our handicap review changes to our system have been scheduled with some already in
place. The below is a list of the changes that require software development and an update on their introduction. Most of the changes were
targeted for a 1 January 2015 introduction but due to the complexity of development some are delayed.
1. A system that reacts faster to exceptional scores.
The Tournament score component was introduced in July 2014 and operating as it is designed to do.
2. All members to have an 18 hole handicap
The date for introducing 18-hole handicaps for all members is 12 February. This change will affect approximately 10,000 members who currently hold 9-hole Handicap Indexes.
On the 12 February rollover
All 9-hole Handicap Indexes will be doubled to form 18-hole handicaps.
the most recent 40 (or less) 9-hole scores will be combined to form “18 hole combined scores”
the projected handicap will be calculated based on these combined scores, and will come into effect once a subsequent score is
played/entered into the system
(NOTE: The maximum NZG Handicap Index is 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women. A woman player may have a Local Handicap above 40.4 to a
maximum 54.4 which will be identified by the letter ‘L’.)
the letter ‘N’ will remain as an indicator for golfers with 9 hole memberships
A 9/18 hole membership will no longer be defined by a “Handicap Type”. This will now be defined by the DotGolf membership category for
each member, by a “Is Nine Hole Only” checkbox in the category setup. A screen shot is included below as an example.
This week, DotGolf will be sending an email to all clubs informing them of any category anomalies in their membership database.
Clubs that have not upgraded to the new DotGolf Edge system will need to enter any 18 hole scores (for 9 hole members) via DotGolf Live.
This is a major modification to the handicap system. There will be scheduled downtime outside of normal working hours at times to allow for
the combining scores process to complete.
This change will raise a number of questions in regard to the treatment of 9-hole members and we will provide a Q&A before 12 February to
assist.
3. The ability for Clubs to modify handicaps
This will be the next phase of development. In the meantime if Clubs require a handicap index to be modified they can contact NZ Golf directly. The main reason for an adjustment is for a disability or as a penalty but there is also the occasion where a player is improving faster
than the system can adjust and a handicap index may need to be reduced.
4. The return of International scores for handicapping
As with the above this will be a change in the next phase of development.
5. Identifying within the system the players that are professionals
As with the above this will be a change in the next phase of development.
NOTE: As of 12 February it will not be possible for cards to be entered for junior members from the kiwi courses. Our focus will be to ensure
that short courses meet the minimum criteria for official course ratings so that beginners and any member can play forward tees and return
an official score for handicapping.
Good golfing and kind regards

Course News—you may have noticed a familiar face around the course lately. Stew Taylor
has been employed to help us through the busy times leading up to the South Island
Stroke Play.
Greens—we are well into our sanding programme with the Greens being sanded this
week and next week as a grooming strategy in the lead up to the tournament.
Working BEE—Thursday 12th February is the date—rain or shine for a club working
bee to tidy up the course in time for the south island stroke play. The more the merrier—Call Steve on 0272769302 or put your name down in the Pro shop. If you
own a weedeater then bring it along too. Meet at the Green keepers shed at
5.00pm.
The Mens Committee have introduced a roster of volunteer and random out of hours Patrol for the
course. Green Fee tickets have been reintroduced as proof of course fee payment and people playing on
the course in the late evenings will be asked to produce proof of payment. If you have concerns about
casuals on particular evenings please speak directly to Eric Bygate or Paul Brouwer from the mens committee so that they can specifically ‘up’ the patrolling on particular evenings.
