On 20th November, the martial arts competition was
held. All first year students and second year students
choose between kendo and judo. We learnt not only the
skills, but also the manners. All contestants displayed
their own power.
In kendo, each class did their best in the
tournament. 1B and 2D faced each other in the
final match. 1B won and became the kendo
champions.
We interviewed the Most Valuable Player
(MVP), Mr. Fumiya Okazaki (1B) about his
feelings.
What did you think when your class reached the
finals?
I was very surprised to advance to the final
round.
How did you feel when your class won and
became champions?
I was pleased and I really appreciated our team.
How did you feel when you were named MVP?
In judo, the final result was that 2A won the
tournament. The final match was a fight of 1B
vs. 2A in front of the whole school.
We were very proud because there were 1st
grade students who went up to the stage and
were named as excellent members.
The Principle read out a letter from Rusty
Kanakogi’s daughter during the Opening
Ceremony. Rusty Kanakogi was the beginning
of women’s judo. One line in the letter said,
“However hard the fight, you must do your best,
never give up”. In this way, everyone fought
hard. It was very impressive for us.

In October, 181 first year students visited Iwate University and
Iwate Prefectural University.
Yoshimichi Matsui (1D)
First we went to Iwate Prefectural
University. We listened to the Principle’s talk
about the university and outline of student life
there. We also listened to and talked with past
Fukuoka High School graduates who are now
studying there. We did a tour of Iwate
Prefectural University and we learnt a lot of
information about this university.

Second, we went to Iwate University. We
listened to the teachers from each department
outline what their school is and what they do. We
were able to learn a lot of information about life
there and about each subject. Also, the students
guided us to each place.
I feel good after visiting the two universities.
Now, I will try to find my own road for the future.

Ariana Grande was born on June 26th, 1993, in
Boca Raton, Florida in the United States. She is a
singer-songwriter. She is also an actress who has
appeared in “Victorious” and “Sam and Cat”. In 2001,
she sang the national anthem at the North America Ice
Hockey Tournament. She is good at imitation and
became famous in the wake of her Youtube videos.
She debuted in 2011 with “Put Your Hearts Up”
and made her debut in Japan in 2013. In 2014, she
appeared in a Victoria’s Secret fashion show. So far, she
has put out two albums, “My Everything” and “Yours
Truly”. She has very cute looks and a playful
personality. She has an overwhelming singing ability
that you can’t even imagine. Because of this, she has
been said to be the next Mariah Carey. She, herself,
also has a great deal of respect for Mariah Carey.

Christmas is the feast that celebrates the birth of Jesus
Christ. In Italy, Poland, France, Spain and some other
countries, Christmas starts on Dec 29th and finishes on Jan 6th.
In most of the Italian region, presents are brought by a
witch called Befana. In Italy, only good children receive
presents. On the other hand, bad children are given coal and
beaten with a branch!

Hello everyone! This is the first time I have ever acted
as the Hukuoka Times Editor. However, the fact is, I
couldn’t assist the members of the English Club
because I couldn’t finish my homework and I had to
stay after school because I had detention. So, I
attribute this edition’s completion to everyone’s
cooperation. If I try again next time to be the Editor, I
will do my best.
