WORDS ... from your Interim Executive Director
First of all, your Eppson Center for Seniors is alive and kicking! It is
in a state of transition with a new, but seasoned, volunteer base assisting
in this process. I want to thank you all for your patience, support and
ideas as we tackle our various hurdles. Here are the main areas that we are
working on at this point:
1. Financial Soundness. Through unfortunate circumstances, none of them
fraudulent, we find ourselves (as reported in the Laramie Boomerang) having to return
state funds that were used. The reason being that the financial reporting and use
of Grant monies couldn’t be substantiated, or were used for other operating costs than
specified.
2. Pride and Usage of our facility. The Eppson Center has seen a decline in our
numbers, mostly in the area of meals. We are striving to improve the quality, while
maintaining the budget. We are also trying to “draw” people back with a new spirit, a
new program. We are hopeful that by initiating more activities, we can come together
as a senior community for our own health and well-being and in turn we will be aiding
the health of our Center.
How can YOU best help? USE the Eppson Center, and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE,
remember, the vast majority of our Grants require YOU to complete some annual
paperwork (yes, that AGNES form!) as a government stipulation that the Center is
reimbursed for your use, AND you sign in via the touch screen, or by hand on the
clipboard at the reception desk. For instance, if you are not up-to-date with this form, or
you do not sign in, the Center will lose about $5 per meal that you might enjoy here. That
adds up! We will be in contact with those whose AGNES forms have lapsed.
Also, consider bringing your friends and relatives to participate in the Eppson Center.
And know that we are always open to ideas for the betterment of our facility.
Finally, I would personally like to thank Flew Wilson and Bernie Horst, two of your board
members, and my wife Bonnie for their untold hours of volunteering for the betterment of
the Center.

Entertainment for
March 2014
Kay Hoch “spotlights” people and events
at the Eppson Center.
Linda Pickel, RN
Whitney Wellness Center
As most of you know, the Center furnishes entertainment on Monday nights after Monday night dinners. The
programs are in the East Wing from 5:45 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The first Monday evening of each month
is Birthday night. Persons with birthdays in that particular month will be notified and their dinner will be
purchased by First Interstate Bank. If you have any entertainment ideas or requests please contact Kay Hoch at
760-6516.
• MARCH 2 -- Our very own Melodees will be
performing after dinner in the East Wing. Our
program will concentrate on a “day” and “night”
theme.
• MARCH 9 -- Dicksie May will talk about
Wyoming Ranch tours. She can explain almost
anything you would want to know about local
history.
Linda is our therapeutic foot care nurse. She does diabetic
foot care at the Center and also does home visits. She
supervises the CNAs at the Eppson Center (housekeepers,
etc), does assessments on new clients, does yearly
evaluations and helps with any problems that may arise.
She is a valuable asset to the Eppson Center.
• MARCH 23 -- SPURS, a group from the
University of Wyoming, will be dancing for us after
dinner.
• MARCH 30 -- A local country group, Country
Folk, will entertain us with some good old country
music after dinner. Stop by and hear them, maybe
sing along with them. I am sure you will know
some of their songs.
Linda met her husband, Billy, in Fort Collins, Colorado,
and they moved to Laramie 25 years ago. She has one
grown step-daughter and a 4 year old granddaughter.
I asked Linda what she likes about her position here
and she said, “It gets me back into patient care, which is
what I like to do.” Linda started out in patient care,
went to administrative positions, and now is gracing the
Eppson Center with her great personality and her
friendly smile. We’re glad she is with us!
• MARCH 16 -- Our own Biscuits and Jam will be
performing St. Patrick’s Day songs, so come and
sing along. This should be a very good program.
THIS N’ THAT
DOLLAR-a-MONTH CLUB
This all-volunteer entity is a “behind the scenes” group of senior peers who
collect a dollar every month for use for the benefit of your senior center. Fund-raisers are also
organized by the group with proceeds going to the center for various “extras” like decorations, piano tuning or
the ice machine, for example.
February’s very successful fund-raiser was the Sweet Treats for Valentine’s Day, with delicious donations
being sold. On May 8th, the annual Mother’s Day Tea will be held. This elegant affair is always a highlight
for our senior ladies and their daughters/friends, imbibing in tea and sampling crumpets.
This year’s volunteer Dollar-a-Month Club committee members are: President Tony Guzzo, Vice Chair
Diane Bartke, Secretary Roberta Stalder, Treasurer Bonnie Miller, Members at Large Darlene Olson,
Doris Adami, Joan Trotter, Lew Vavra, Lucy McCarrick, Muriel Forney, Pat Parker, and Vera Reid.
Donations to the Dollar-a-Month Club are $1.00 each month—we invite everyone to become a
member of the group. Please see any committee member with your ideas, suggestions or questions. We meet
the last Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the Arts and Craft Room.
2
A SPRING FLING CRAFT
FAIR is being planned for May
2nd just in time for Mother’s
Day gifts. If you would like
to rent a table, see Jan in

Whitney Health
and
If you or your loved one are in need of additional help,
look no further than this program. The Wyoming
Home Services (WyHS) grant based program offers
services that may help clients through the State of
Wyoming Department of Aging.
This program works for different people with
different needs and is very flexible. For example, it
may work for you if you were in an accident and need
additional help around your home for awhile, healing
up from surgery or illness, and/or even if you do not
qualify for other services (i.e. Home Health, Medicaid
Waiver, etc.)
Please call the Whitney Health and Wellness
Center at the Eppson Center for Seniors if you have
any questions, or are interested in getting added to
our waitlist. Our number is 307-761-0660.
The Whitney Health and Wellness Center
(WHWC) offers these services:
• PERSONAL CARE: A person will come to your
house and help you with eating, bathing, and
dressing.
• RESPITE: This service offers special in-home care
to give your regular caregiver time off.
• HOMEMAKING: Light cleaning of your home,
meal prep, shopping, errands, linen changes,
laundry assistance, etc.
• TRANSPORTATION: Picking up and
transporting clients to and from doctor visits,
shopping, errands, etc. (with 48 hour notice.)
• SOCIALIZATION: An important aspect of
everyone’s healthy quality of life.
• ADDITIONAL SERVICES: Foot Care, Hand
Care, Massage, Acupuncure, Tax Rebate, and
UEAP.
Am I Eligible?
The Department of Aging looks at your needs and
programmatic factors to determine if you are eligible
for services.
6
• EVALUATION: An Access Care Coordinator will
meet with you to see how much help you need
during the day.
Wellness Center
• PROGRAM: You must be 18 or older to qualify
for this program. You must also meet other basic
eligibility rules such as living in Wyoming and
being an American citizen or legal resident.
The WyHS program is a fee-for-service program. There
are no financial eligibility requirements. We work with
you to decide how much to charge for the services.
What If I’m Not Eligible?
If you do not qualify, contact the Wyoming
Department of Health or your Access Care Coordinator
to discuss other options available to you in your
community.
How Do I Apply and What
Happens Next?
If you are interested in applying for services, you should
contact your local Senior Center and ask to meet with
an Access Care Coordinator to have an Aging Needs
Evaluation Summary done to determine eligibility.
Once you are eligible, you and your Access Care
Coordinator will decide what services are needed. You
and your case manager will meet every 90 days to make
sure the services still make sense for you.
Services will begin after the Service Plan is accepted
by the client and a slot is available. There may be a
waiting list for services to begin.
Where Can I Find
Additional Information?
The program is administered through the Wyoming
Department of Health, Aging Division, Community
Living Section. More information is available on their
website: http://health.wyo.gov/aging/index.html.
There you can find frequently asked questions and
details about this and other programs.

WORDS ... from your Interim Executive Director
Finally, I would personally like to thank Flew Wilson and Bernie Horst, two of your board
members, and my wife Bonnie for their untold hours of volunteering for the betterment of
the Center.
