2016 GREAT LAKES REGIONAL COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE APRIL 8 - 9, 2016 INDIANA MEMORIAL UNION GREATLAKES.INDIANA.EDU 3 WELCOME TO THE 2016 GREAT LAKES REGIONAL COUNSELING PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE ! The Counseling Psychology Program at Indiana University Bloomington is proud to host the 29th Annual Great Lakes Regional Counseling Psychology Conference on April 8-9, 2016, in Bloomington, Indiana. This year’s conference is held at the historical Indiana Memorial Union, the largest student union in the United States. You will enjoy the convenience of having your hotel room and conference venue in the same building, the magnificent architecture and artwork, and the many amenities at the Union. The Union is also within walking distance to downtown Bloomington where you will find many authentic restaurants and shops. The theme of the 2016 conference is USING OUR VOICE: OUR PROFESSION AS A PLATFORM FOR CHANGE Counseling psychologists work in a variety of roles, including counseling, assessment, research, supervision, training, education, prevention, consultancy, advocacy, leadership, and policymaking. Each of these roles presents opportunities for us to express our core values as counseling psychologists. We feature presentations that address innovative ways in which counseling psychologists can use their professional roles as a platform to effect positive change in individuals, families, schools, organizations, communities, and society in diverse contexts. The conference features keynote speaker Dr. James Lichtenberg, President of the Society of Counseling Psychology. This year’s conference is unique in that we are offering seven presentation formats to cater to diverse learning and teaching preferences. These include presentations that will provide opportunities for attendees to (a) listen (symposia), (b) read (poster presentations), (c) converse (roundtable discussions and mentoring sessions), (d) observe (live skills demonstrations), or (e) participate in activities (experiential activities and social justice projects). Follow the tremendous success of the 2014 National Counseling Psychology Conference, we are organizing “Dinner with the Stars” on Friday night of the conference. You can sign up to have dinner with a star of your choice, in an intimate small group setting at a local restaurant (participants pay for their own meals). There you can enjoy networking with your peers and informal mentoring by your star in counseling psychology. In addition to the amazing lineup of conference programs and social functions, we also offer two pre-conference continuing education workshops, featuring two past presidents of the Society of Counseling Psychology: Drs. Sharon Bowman and Michael Mobley. The conference concludes with a visit at the Indiana University Art Museum, nationally known for its amazing art collections. We hope you enjoy the conference! Y. Barry Chung and Nicole Gabana Conference Co-Chairs 4 ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS We appreciate the following sponsors of the conference : Society of Counseling Psychology American Psychological Association (Division 17) School of Education Indiana University Bloomington Luther Consulting, LLC We also express our gratitude for the conference volunteers.
