St. Patrick’s Primary School is well on its way to having its COLA
complete. The COLA, (Covered Outdoor Learning Area), will allow the
children of St. Patrick’s to learn under cover and in a variety of ways
which in the past have not been possible. The COLA will provide the
children with a dry, shaded area for play and learning all year round! With
the inclusion of a basketball, netball and tennis court all constructed on
a synthetic base.
St Patrick’s, in conjunction with the Catholic Education Office Sandhurst,
submitted a Minor Capitals Work grant to employ funds so that the children
of St. Patrick’s have access to the same learning conditions as all other
children. We are truly lucky to have received this grant and we hope that
the new facility benefits the whole community.

St. Patrick’s will celebrate its sixtieth year this year and we have planned
a combined celebration of the COLA’s official opening on Friday 18th March
at 6:00pm. We are hoping one and all from the Pyramid Hill community come
along and celebrate with us!
The celebration will have food and
drinks for sale, a DJ, bungee run,
zorb balls, face-painting, airbrush
tattooing, jumping castle, treasure
hunts, a shoot out competition,
along with an historical gallery to
explore.
All entertainment is FREE, so come
along and join in the fun!

The Pyramid Hill Farming for
Sustainable Soils Group has been
operating for a bit over a year now, and
is aimed at improving the health and
productivity of the soils in the region.
It is funded by the federal government
through the North Central Catchment
Management Authority (NCCMMA),
but the activities are decided upon by
the group members. Last year we
conducted a number of activities,
including trials with gypsum and
compost, the installation of moisture
probes, soil samples and pits, and guest
speakers to help better understand soil,
livestock and crop management.
To kick off this year’s activities, and
because of the tough season last year,
we are having a family evening on
Friday 18th March, with a focus on
dealing with drought.
We have
organised Nick Shady as a guest
speaker, who is a newly published
author, speaker, farm management
expert, and part time grain farmer. Nick
is also a steering committee member of
“The Ripple Effect”, the aim of this
project is to help farmers cope with the
stresses of everyday life. He is very
passionate about helping farming
families stay on the land through tough
times. Nick, along with his wife,
Ayesha Hilton, have just released a
book called “Who Gets the Farm?” and
largely focusses on the importance of
communication, and ways to develop a
farm succession plan.

On the night Nick will speak about not
only succession planning, but the
importance of keeping an open
dialogue with family and friends, and
looking out for your family, friends
and neighbours, especially when facing
tough times. For this reason it is highly
recommended that not only farmers
come along, but partners also. In order
to make this a bit easier for those with
children, we are making it a family
night with a free BBQ, and for the
kids, a jumping castle, face painting,
and a magic show by Mister Mike. We
are also hoping to have some girls
there to help watch the kids so that
Mum’s and Dad’s can listen to Nick
without having to worry about the
children.
Local Rural Financial
Counsellor, Teresa Meulendijks will
also be there to explain what her
service can provide for those people in
need. I am also hoping to get someone
from the Salvation army to attend to let
people know about the service they
provide for people in need, though this
is yet to be confirmed.
The evening is not just for farmers or
soil group members, and anyone who
is feeling the effects of the drought
(such as reduced spending in your
business, or less work for casual
workers), is welcome to attend. This
will be held at the footy ground
(Mitchell park), and is a free event so
come along and have a relaxing night
out with the family. Drinks will be
available at bar prices. If you are
planning to come could you please
RSVP by this Monday 14th March for
catering purposes so we don’t fall short
on food. RSVP to Adam Twigg ph:

Hello all,
Recently it has come to my attention that
residents of Pyramid Hill are purchasing
alcohol on behalf of others who are currently
banned from purchasing alcohol from both
the Pyramid Hill IGA and Victoria Hotel. If
residents are doing this, it is to STOP.
Persons banned are banned for a reason, and
purchasing alcohol for them is only making
the current problem worse. It also has an
effect on the image of our great town. The
last thing we want to see or hear is tourists
witnessing acts of public drunkenness and
anti social behaviour in the main street of
Pyramid Hill. If I receive credible information relating to persons purchasing alcohol
either for minors or banned persons then I
will take the appropriate action to see these
persons prosecuted, either by issuing a
penalty notice or taking the matter to a local
Magistrates Court.
We are a small community, and so many of
us are forever trying to promote Pyramid Hill
as a family friendly town. Lets cut out the
anti social behaviour and public drunkenness
issues by sticking together and weeding it
out.
As always I am available at the Pyramid Hill
Police Station if you wish to discuss the
matter further.

Don’t forget our Luncheon is on Thursday,
17th March, St. Patrick’s Day, so come along
wearing something green, to have a fun day.
Ring Peg on 5455 7191 to put your name
down.
“The Road to Nhill” DVD on Monday was
very interesting. Sixteen of us enjoyed
picking out where the movie was filmed eg
the Hostel when it was the hospital, Dave &
Jan Burke’s lovely garden, Pickles (Ern &
Ken) farm, Brooke’s Ag Store and trying to
work out who the characters were. Very
funny - cuppa and afternoon tea followed.
Bingo - Bernie and Ernie had a good day,
winning 4 games each. Lucky cards when to
Wanda, June, Bernie, Ian Mac and Ernie.
Why not come along for a bit of fun.
Cards - usual four played 500, Trevor & Peg
won 5 games, Jeanette & Kate one.
Hope everyone is staying cool and well with
this horrible heat - some rain is desperately
needed.
Happy Birthday to Lorraine Fawcett and

60 and Over: Last week our Club
hosted the 60 and Over teams who did
an amazing job to cope with the heat.
The cool drinks were high on demand
once the matches were finished. Our
blokes, Andy, Bill, Alan j and Ernie got
off to a flying start when they ‘clean
sheeted’
their
opponents
from
Gunbower 27-zip. Things looked really
promising and the dead chook had one
foot in the pot. However, that is as
close as it got as the next two games
were not winning ones. With one week
to go let’s hope the chaps can cap off
with at least a pot of broth. Thanks to
the ladies who provided the afternoon
tea. The sandwich making is down to a
fine art!
Saturday Pennant results: The first
two rounds of finals play were held last
weekend over two days. Due to the
extreme heat the matches commenced
at 9:30am instead of the usual 1:30pm.
Semi final results as follows: Division
1- Kerang 80 v Cohuna Golf 1 51 and
Cohuna
67
v
Leitchville
71
Division 2- Cohuna Golf 91 v Cohuna
61 and Barham Services 78 v Kerang
58 Division 3- Barham Services Blue
66 v Kerang White 65 and Cohuna
Golf 78 v Cohuna 66.
Preliminary final results: Division 1Leitchville 75 v Cohuna Golf 1 69
Division 2- Barham Services 72 v

Good Bowling to all Clubs in the Grand
Finals.
Working Bee: A great contingent of folk
turned out to put their elbows and backs
to the grind in order to prepare the front
green in readiness for lasering. Thanks to
the number of people who turned up, the
job was completed on the day despite the
heat. Thankfully, due to the early start,
the bulk of the work was done before the
heat really set in. Not only did the green
get sacrificed but adjustments were made
to the sprinkler lines and the bar fridge
had a good clean out (in various ways). It
was good to see that the attendance was
not gender exclusive. Thanks to all who
assisted with the provision and serving of
the morning tea twice over. The
refreshments were highly welcomed and
well deserved. The lasering has now
been carried out so it’s a matter of
nurturing the regrowth in hopes of
having a truly improved playing surface.
Well done to Allan for all his work in
organising and conducting the project.
Tournament Elders Pairs: For
the third time this bowling season
we have had to cancel a tournament due to extreme heat. This is
an unfortunate situation but the
Club has made the best decisions
in the light of player safety. It is
hoped to re-schedule this tournament for a date later in the year.
Champion of Champion Pairs:
On Sunday 13th March, Fred and
Laurie and Kate and Jean will
compete at District Level in the
Champion of Champion Pairs
competition. We wish them every
success with good bowling and
good luck. We are already proud of
your achievements.
Moama Bus Trip: The Club has
organised for a social outing to
Moama Bowling Club on Sunday
3rd April. There is no cost for the
bus trip. Members are asked to
contribute to, and provide an item
for, the raffles. The meal and
drinks will be at your own expense. The bus leaves Pyramid Hill
at 11:00am. Please place your
name on the sheet at the Club
Rooms to indicate your intent to
attend.
Presentation Night: Please put a
note on your diary for Friday, 13th
May.
Best Wishes to Dawn who is soon
to be married to Glen (our Gunbower compatriots). The members
of Pyramid Hill Bowling Club
wish you a beautiful day and a
lifetime of wonderful moments.
