Newsletter No. 17 - 22nd July
Newsletter No. 17 - 22nd July Greetings, LOTS OF NEW ENROLMENTS AT TYALLA With the start of Term 3, we have been faced with an interesting dilemma at Tyalla. Since school has come back we have been inundated with new enrolments and although this is a good problem to have to contend with, it is nonetheless busy, stressful and confusing for those involved at times. We have had around 10 new enrolments from students moving from different schools and now in addition to this, we will have a large group of children starting this week who are new refugees to this country … with more enrolments expected soon. Our first goal will be to ensure that each child has a successful transition to school at Tyalla. Children starting new at our school and coming from nearby local schools or from out of the Coffs Harbour area, will be slotted into their ‘new’ classes as soon as possible. The large group of children coming from Burma and Afghanistan however, will be transitioned into mainstream classes as part of a gradual process which will limit stress and anxiety for them and their classroom teacher. Jennifer Choy will be working with these children over the next few weeks to ensure that their needs are being met and that they ‘kick off’ in a successful way in Australia. EDUCATION WEEK Next week is a very exciting time on our school’s educational calendar as we will celebrate Education Week for 2015. The theme for this year is ‘Celebrating Local Heroes’. We will have lots of very exciting things happening in and around the school and we would really love it if you could join us in these festivities. WHO: Parents, carers, family and friends WHEN: Monday, 27th to Friday, 31st July WHAT: Every day will have something exciting to see or do including open classrooms, performances, art show, family picnic and more. See inside today’s newsletter for further information or visit face book or the school website for daily activities and times. COFFS CUP DAY Once again, the Coffs Cup Race Day on Thursday, 6th August will involve a half day Public Holiday from 12.00pm onwards. Tyalla Primary School will be closing at 12.00pm and no further classes will operate on that day. On this day, parents will need to pick up their children at 12.00pm as buses will not be operating at this time. So just to clarify, school will operate as normal from 9.10am to 12.00pm. After 12.00pm, Tyalla Primary School will not operate. Your co-operation with this is most appreciated. Have a great week. Remember, Slick Sportswear and Uniforms have jumpers, jackets and warm long pants for both boys and girls if your children need some extra layers. You can pick up a price list at the office or just pop in and see the range they carry. Slick are open every weekday. The canteen has also got some lovely warm food this term. Check out the updated menu which accompanies today’s newsletter. You will note that some of the prices have gone up a little. We are constantly assessing the pricing so we can keep it affordable and still have the canteen open every day. We have made comparisons with other schools and our new prices are still great value. As Simmone is now offering food that is cooked in the canteen kitchen she relies on volunteers to help her out. If you have some time and would like to help, please let Simmone know as she has some vacancies for helpers. At Tyalla we are fortunate that Woolworths supplies weekly fruit so every student can participate in our school-wide daily healthy break. This week, Stage 2 are recommencing their healthy eating lunchtime draw. Once a week, Stage 2 students will have the opportunity to win a prize for simply bringing healthy food to eat for lunch and recess. To win a prize, students must have a healthy lunch - sandwich/ salad/other healthy alternative, a piece of vegetable or fruit and a bottle of water. Special thanks to Mrs Luchetti for selecting the prizes from Super Amart. The prizes were purchased with points from the customer reward system. We encourage parents/carers who shop at Super Amart to nominate Tyalla when purchasing goods. Thank you for your support of your child with this healthy eating initiative.
