Presidents report
Another month done and dusted what a busy month it has been . We have had camping trips to
Kenilworth , Amamoor state forest with Jeepfreakz QLD.
The Black tie dinner with Queensland club and the Special invitation to Crofters estate.
Great to see so much happening I would like to thank everyone involved.
With the nights now getting cooler it appears that there is now going to be more day trips than
camping weekends.
If anyone is interested in organising a camping trip please speak to Gary and get it in. Cold nights
is a good reason for a bigger fire.

double island point
trip report
27 – 28 Feb 2016
Saturday morning was fine, but windy, as we made
our way north towards Noosa. There was a
cyclone offshore so we were expecting some big
surf at Teewah Beach, where we were camping.
When we arrived at the beach access cutting on
Noosa North Shore the waves were coming high
up into the dunes. We had a good look at the
conditions and discussed if there was enough
room to drive along the beach. As it was nearly
high tide we decided to wait for a couple of hours for the tide to go out before proceeding. Sitting in the local pub
turned out to be a great way to pass the time.
Once the tide had dropped we headed back to the
beach were we saw a motorcycle speeding up the
cutting, losing control and almost colliding with an
oncoming car on the track.
Finally, we were travelling along the beach in
convoy. It was good to feel sand under the wheels
and to smell the salt in the air. We had to time our
run between the incoming waves, with Ivan putting
on a good show for those travelling behind as he
splashed through a big wave.
We meet up with Ray and Debbie, and their friends
Craig and Gail, at the Teewah Beach Camping
Zone. We set up our tents close by. I had a new tent
to try out. It was the 3 second tent from BCF. So I
opened the cover and pulled the tent out and voila! It
was up. No sweat. No fuss. 4 tent pegs and I was done. Now just to wait for the rest to set up.
In the afternoon all 7 cars headed further along the
beach towards Freshwater Road. The sand was very
soft leading into the picnic area, resulting in some cars
getting stuck. We all helped each other and recovered
not only our cars, but a few others as well. I made sure
they knew it was the Moreton Districts Off Road Club
helping them out. I reckon Nick recovered about 400
vehicles from that spot. He worked hard to get everyone
moving. Good work Nick! We had an enjoyable drive
along the sandy track to Rainbow Beach. There was
quite a bit of traffic which required some maneuvering to
pass other cars coming from the opposite direction.
Once there, we showered and went to the Rainbow Beach
Hotel for a well deserved meal. With full bellies we drove
back along Freshwater Road in the dark where we
showed off our spotties and light bars. Craig was close to
a big wave as we headed alongside the surf. It is difficult
to see waves coming in at night when your lights are
pointed down the beach.
Sitting around the camp site we all swapped stories, and a
few laughs before, heading to bed to hear a little rain on
our tents.
The next morning Ivan and Genny headed home early to
beat the high tide. Richard said that his tent had collapsed
Moreton Districts Off Road Club | April 2016

in the middle of the night, so he slept in his car. Sitting on the dune in front of our campsite, enjoying the morning sun,
we saw quite a lot of cars without number plates or bent plates. There were about 5 cars being towed and a couple on
tray back tow trucks, all water damaged I reckon.
We packed up camp and drove back to Freshwater Road. Everyone today made it through the track without a
problem. We headed to King’s Bore Circuit
Road for a nice drive through the bush. Well,
it was a nice drive until we came across a
fallen tree over the track. Nick, Richard and
Ben worked hard with an axe to cut through
the tree. A small scorpion ran from the bark of
the tree and scuttled away to find a new
home. The track was finally cleared with
Richard’s winch. As we travelled further
along, Nick and Richard saw a Dingo. The
track was all sand, very soft in parts, and a
relaxing drive.
We finished the circuit and aired up for the
drive home. Thanks to Laura for taking some
lovely photos, and also thanks to Nick for
being trip leader and putting in a huge effort
over the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed the
trip and would like to thank everyone who attended.
Gary.

Kenilworth trip report
8th – 9th april
Gathered at Shell Wild Horse Mountain and were on the road by 9:20.
Travelled through Nambour and on to Mapleton, Obi Obi and on to
Kenilworth. The scenery was beautiful and then we reached the
campsite at 10:20. Ray and I have never been here before and we
thought the site was just beautiful with a running creek, toilets and fire
dotted around.
There were 4 cars on this trip so we all picked our spots and dibbed our
fireplace. Up until now Ray and I had been camping with a rather large
10 man tent (supposedly), however we had decided to take my
daughter’s (supposedly) 2 man tent, it was quite psychedelic and hippy like and looked like a happy little bubble. It
did make setting up and packing down faster which was the aim, but not a lot of ventilation and by morning all the
internal walls were absolutely saturated with condensation ……... haha
We had lunch and set off finally at 2:10 for a quick run to the café for firewood and ice
into Kenilworth for the all important refreshments to be enjoyed sitting around the camp
night.
creams and
fire that
Finally we were off road but still hadn’t
locked in our
wheels then comes the call from our trip leader Davo, think we’d
better go to low range now and no sooner had he made the
suggestion and we were crawling down some rather steep tracks
and a couple of nice deep ruts.
The forest was beautiful and the terrain was ever changing from
the dry soil to red clay. As we were winding our way up one track
we came across a rather big hole in the road which would have
swallowed us up so we went left to come round through a tight
right turn, glad it was a day trip and not a night drive, would have
been a bit nasty to fall into.
We came upon a couple of shallow water crossings and then
found some slippery clay halfway up a hill that brought me to an
abrupt stop. We slipped straight into a big rut, reversed out and had another go staying to the left and our trusty
patrol took us up and over all the way, yeehaa. Davo made it through easily before us and then Nathan and Tanya
came up after us and went a little sidewards. Of course Tiny and crew walked up in the little Jeep, however a few
tracks later the little jeep lost traction and had to slide down and have another go. Made it up and there was no
winching or recovery needed on this drive. The scenery was just so relaxing the sun filtering through the flora.
We travelled some tracks and in the end weren’t sure exactly
where we were so just kept driving until we hit a main road and
ended up on the other side of Kenilworth. We arrived back at
camp around 5:30 to start the “happy hour” which went for a few
hours. Everyone congregated by the fire and had dinner and a
few drinks and little by little the group shrunk and shrunk as we
all started turning in for the night to be up and ready for an 8:30
departure the following morning.
Up and off the next morning we went to another camp ground
called Booloumba Creek, aahhh what a beautiful pristine part of
this amazing country. It was so breathtakingly beautiful, clear
water and
beautiful straight
huggable trees –
just gorgeous.
We meandered back to camp from Booloumba without any
interruptions or hill challenges and all packed up left camp at 1:00pm
and went to Kenilworth Cheese factory for some belated morning tea
and to partake in some of the selections of gourmet cheeses and
foods and had a coffee or beverage of choice or ice cream or ……..
Then it was on to Maleny to show our “new to Queensland” visitors a
little of the Hinterland lifestyle and we all enjoyed a look around town
and then lunch.
After filling our bellies we left Maleny to travel the back roads back to
home peeling off 1 by 1 at our turn offs. Ray and I drove into our driveway around 6:30pm and had enjoyed our
lovely weekend away immensely. Debbie Sullivan.

Member Profile – gary & nicole eickenloff
We are a married couple with two grown up children,
Tara is 25 and Matthew is 21. We were both born and
raised in Brisbane and our love of 4wding began 18 years
ago after a drive along Bribie Island. Our first 4wd, a
Rav4, was used mainly for beach driving and towing
Gary’s Jetski.
After a few years we decided we would like to begin
exploring the bush, so in 2001 we bought a 1998 Hilux
SR5. We enjoyed many good trips in the Hilux over 14
years, but it was now time to upgrade. We sold the Hilux
early last year so it has been 12 months since we’ve
owned a 4wd. Thanks to club members I still enjoyed
4wding as a passenger all last year. We recently bought
a 2015 Nissan Patrol, NTrek series. It has everything we
wanted in a 4wd, including a winch, rear locker, tow bar,
bull bar, spot lights, snorkel and UHF, and is big enough for all our camping gear. The car is
comfortable to drive and our 2 dogs, Woody and Coco, love riding to the beach or doggy park in the
back.
The ol’ Hilux was manual and I was used to the
way it handled. But the Nissan is automatic, so I
have to adjust my driving style a bit and get used
to the different ways the car travels over the
terrain. This winter we are traveling to Birdsville
and tackling Big Red with plenty of sightseeing on
the way. Our plans for the future include visiting
The Cape and conquering The Old Telegraph
Track, but for now we enjoy the tracks at
Beerburrum State Forest, Bellthorpe State Forest,
Mt. Mee at night and camping at Rainbow Beach.
We have also explored Seven Mile Diggings,
Blackbutt Range, Glass House Mountains,
Moreton Island, Stradbroke Island, Landcruiser
Mountain Park and City View 4wd Park.
Gary is the MDORC Trip Coordinator and is keen to
encourage the club members to participate in many different trips. If you have a favourite 4wd
destination you would like to share with others, Gary is very
happy to help with organising the details and strongly
encourages visitors to tag along.
When we’re not at work we like walking Coco and Woody,
going to the movies or dining out. Gary doesn’t mind hot and
spicy food and his favourite restaurant is Ribs and Rumps,
where as Nicole prefers Byblos Mediterranean Restaurant.
Gary’s religion is V8 Supercars. We even had to schedule
our wedding so it wouldn’t clash with Bathurst! Gary also
enjoys supporting the Broncos, and something else you may
not know about Gary is that he loves the Eurovision Song
Contest and has it marked on the calendar months in
advance.
Casino Royale is one of Gary’s favourite movies, and he
enjoys relaxing with a rum and coke. Nicole likes to spend
her leisure time exploring markets or spending all of Gary’s
hard earned money at IKEA.

Amamoor state forest –
trip report
23 -25th april
After arriving at the Amamoor Creek camp ground to
meet the rest of the group that went up the day before
setting up camp, having lunch, letting all the dogs meet
and greet and all the girls falling for shadow and gizmo
we all went for a drive. Unfortunately it didn't quite go to
plan as halfway into the track it started to rain which
made the track too dangerous to continue. I jumped into Aleisha’s
jeep to escape the rain which didn't quite work lol meanwhile Brent
forgot to put his roof in his car so he got soaking wet. So we all
turned around and went back to camp to start up our camp oven
cook-off with Jeepfreakz. After having dinner a few laughs and
drinks we all went to bed excited about the day ahead. During the
early morning of the 24th with shadow snuggling in Tiny’s jacket we
all had breakfast with gizmo looking for bacon from everyone’s
plates. Then while we were discussing the tracks we were going to
do we were approached by a lady asking if we had a satellite
phone. then went on to say that some young guys had gotten badly
stuck the day before and had walked 3 1/2hrs back to the camp
ground. So change of plans we went off to recover their ute after
some investigation we found it was balancing on two
wheels. After a long and exciting recovery which involved
two cars one from MDORC and one from Jeepfreakz
some of us decided to have a drive up the hill where the
young guys had gotten stuck. Afterwards some of us
went back to camp while rest went to have a look at
another track to see if it would be worth while doing after
lunch. On getting back to camp we had some lunch
where we were surprised by a thankyou gift of 3 cartons
of beer from the guys we had helped earlier. After lunch
we headed out again to drive a track and found a big and
challenging hill. After looking at it in the fading light Evan
asked who wants to go up it most of us said yes. So we
proceeded to climb up one by one with Brent spotting at
the bottom and Evan spotting as each car reached a
halfway mark and then one of our MDORC cars threw us into
another recovery exercise. It was a winch job using the winch
on the recovery vehicle. Really gave Evan, Brent, and a
couple of the Jeepfreakz boys a workout. It's great being in
the club especially with such knowledge and experience when
any of us find ourselves in precarious positions. By the time
the recovery was finished it was too dark for the 3 cars we
didn't manage to get up so they had to turn around and head
back to camp. We all met up then had dinner then happy hour
seemed to start for the beer drinkers which lasted well into the
early hours of the morning on the 25th Leighanne,Tiny,Ben
and myself all got up for the dawn service. This
wasLeighannes first one ever!!! then it was back to camp to
have breakfast and pack up it may have not quite gone to plan but it was fun thanks to everyone who came along
Shadow and Gizmo really enjoyed them selves! Laura Clark.

and nominate a vehicle to be last in the convoy (Tail End Charlie).
A vehicle shall stay in the convoy order unless directed otherwise by the Trip Leader.
Communication – Convoy communication shall be by the designated UHF Radio
channel selected. The Moreton Bay Districts Off Road Club’s chosen channel is 27
UHF.
If you are unable to make radio contact, flash your headlights onto the vehicle ahead.
This is a signal for the rest of the convoy to stop.
Keep unnecessary chatter on the radio to a minimum when navigating difficult areas.
If in any doubt of the best / safest way to proceed through hazards / obstacles, ask
the Trip Leader or more experienced driver for advice. Remember you probably won’t
be the only one experiencing difficulty.
Acknowledge all radio calls from the Trip Leader.
Travelling – Keep the vehicle behind you in view at all times and at any decision point
(corner, deviation, obstacle):
 Wait for the following vehicle
 Indicate where to go (use indicators if appropriate)
 When acknowledgement is received, then proceed
Drive at your COMFORTABLE and SAFE speed. Generally keep 4-6 vehicle lengths
distance between vehicles and keep the convoy moving.
On steep inclines / obstacles:
 Proceed one vehicle at a time
On very steep or difficult terrain:
 Call the next vehicle through when you are clear
All gates are to be left as they were found. The Trip Leader is responsible to ensure
that the last vehicle knows to leave the gate open or closed.
All vehicles must have headlights switched on while in convoy.
Vehicles should not leave the convoy other than in exceptional circumstances and
before doing so must obtain approval from the Trip Leader.
Remember you are responsible for the vehicle behind you!
Code of Ethics – At all times abide by road rules and regulations and drive in a
manner consistent with the Four Wheel Driver’s Code of Ethics.

Easy Australian Damper




250 g self-raising flour
1/2 tsp salt
25 g unsalted butter chilled cubed
175 mls milk
Method
 STEP 1Mix the flour with the salt in a large
bowl. Add the butter and rub it into the flour
with the tips of your fingers, until it
resembles fine crumbs
 STEP 2Stir in the milk with a round blade
knife (butter knife) to make a soft but not
sticky dough.
 STEP 3Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and shape into a soft, smooth ball.
 STEP 4Set the ball of dough onto a tray or baking sheet and flatten gently to make a round about 17 cm
across. Cut a deep cross in the dough and brush lightly with milk.
 STEP 5Bake at 190C for 30 minutes until golden.
 STEP 6Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
Can be frozen for up to 1 month. Variations: Add 100 g grated cheese to the mixture before adding the milk
and sprinkle with a little extra cheese before baking. I also add 2 tablespoons of chives or parsley. If you want it
to be sweet, add 2 tablespoons golden syrup and 2 tablespoons caster sugar to the mixture with the milk. The
milk can be replaced with beer - this makes it lighter and fluffier.
