During lunch we will celebrate leaders who have made a difference in the lives of young children and families. Join us as we honor and thank Elizabeth Huntley for her work as an advocate for quality early childhood experiences for children. Dr. Wehrell–Grabowski travels the nation and world promoting scientific literacy for all by conducting science and STEM hands-on science programs for early childhood teachers. Dr. Wehrell-Grabowski received her Ph.D. in Science Education from Florida Institute of Technology in 1994. She also holds a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction in Science Education. Diana is a member of NAEYC, NSTA, Head Start and ASEE. Dr. Wehrell-Grabowski’s sessions are sponsored by United Way of Central Alabama Success By 6 from a generous grant from The Malone Family Foundation. During this session, teachers will be working with the educational curriculum “Growing Up Wild”, which builds on children’s sense of wonder about nature and invites them to explore the world around them through a wide range of activities and experiences. Participants will develop lessons for parents to use at home with their children to encourage families to spend more time outdoors and appreciate nature together. Target Age Group: All Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the scientifically supported discipline that focuses on the individual and changing behaviors to reach desired outcomes. This presentation will provide an introduction to assessment techniques that identify possible triggers and causes of behavior. Participants will be provided an in-depth look into positive and negative reinforcement and punishment, strategies for increasing positive behaviors and decreasing negative ones and suggestions for when to ask for help from a behavior expert.
