Monday, Feb 16 & the 17 the Carrabelle Artist Outreach Program held a Free
Papermaking Workshop. The Workshop taught a bit of history about paper making &
a simple way of making hand pressed paper from recycled cotton & previously used
paper.
Come down, Hang out, Unplug!
Just heard on the news that the state of Florida
could be sunned-in for this weekend. Residents
have been urged to hunker down at your
nearest beach and/or tiki bar for further
instructions. Use extreme caution when braving
this blizzard of sunshine, preferably SPF 30. We
are asking our friends and relatives to the north
to please keep us in their thoughts as we deal
with two feet buried in the sand!!!!!☺ ☺

In celebration of March being Archaeology Month in Florida, the
Carrabelle History Museum and Historical Society are hosting the
program: “First People of the Forgotten Coast “on Saturday, March 14th.
Speakers include Jim Miller - former head of the Florida Department of
Archaeology, Julie Byrd – Anthropologist with the State of Florida, Ken Horne,
expert on primitive methods of creating useful tools and weapons and other
noteworthy authorities on this subject. Demonstrations and displays of local
artifacts will be exhibited. Bring your questions and learn about the very first
folks to live here and fish in our waters.
As part of our exploration of early inhabitants of the Forgotten Coast, the
museum staff is asking for long term residents in Franklin, Liberty, Wakulla and
Gulf Counties with direct lineage to local Native Americans (Seminole,
Miccosukee, Creek, Muskogee, Apalachee) to please attend the gathering and
bring any photographs of local Native American relatives, crafts, drawings or
writings made by them. We request that you allow us to photograph your photos
and special items on that day, as well as record or document any stories you might
want to share. After our speakers’ presentations we will give each person with
family stories or documents a 5 minute share session (or as time permits).
This free program will be held from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday at the Franklin
County Senior Center in Carrabelle located at 201 NW Avenue F. It is sponsored
by the Franklin County Public Library the Apalachicola Municipal Library and
funded in part by Carrabelle CARES and the Cities of Carrabelle and Apalachicola,
Visit Florida, and the Franklin County Tourist Development Council.
