The Baker couch wins an international prize
The Wallpaper Design Award 2010 went to the Baker
couch in the category of “Best relaunches”.
59 years should pass before the Baker couch was
internationally acknowledged for it’s beautiful appearance.
Whole 59 years, since the sofa was born, should pass before the Baker couch actually won an international prize!
Every year the international design, fashion and lifestyle
magazine Wallpaper nominates a number of prizes in
different categories. The Baker couch won the category
“Best relaunch”.
Originally Finn Juhl designed the couch for Baker Furniture Inc. in USA in 1951, as a part of a larger collection,
which should renew the company’s line of design.
The sculptural forms of the couch are inspired by the
modern free art of the 30’ies and 40’ies, in which Finn
Juhl took a great interest. It has an upholstered body,
divided in two, resting upon an elegant and light wooden
construction – a typical example of how Finn Juhl divided
the elements in order to create a visual lightness.
The couch is upholstered with fabric of customer’s
choice, often in two colours and is delivered in either
oak, walnut or teak.

Seoul:
House of Finn Juhl
– now in Korea
In a unique corner building right across the Emperor’s
palace in Seoul “House of Finn Juhl” opened in May this
year.
Behind the Finn Juhl showroom and the building is Mr.
Kim owner of AA Design Museum in Seoul. Everywhere
in the house you will find special details or materials,
which Mr. Kim has found in Europe and re-used in the
house. Large wooden doors from France, cleaned bricks
from England or beautiful old street lamps in metal, all
incorporated in the interior in the most creative way both
indoors and outdoors
Mr. Kim has a great passion for Finn Juhl and the top
floors are housing “House of Finn Juhl”, where most of
the Finn Juhl collection is on permanent exhibition.
-We are very proud of having AA Design Museum as a
member of our Finn Juhl family, because they are so nice
and exiting people, who also have a passion for good design, says Preben Pontoppidan, owner of Danish Interiors
and agent of Onecollection in Japan and the East.
In the basement there is a big gallery and at the ground
floor a nice café with Finn Juhl chairs and access to a
beautifully made garden.

Berlin:
House of
Finn Juhl
At the corner of Brünnen Strasse and Anklammer
Strasse, centrally placed in the former East Berlin Onecollection has in co-operation with Wohnkultur 66 in
Hamburg opened the world’s first “House of Finn Juhl”
shop. The whole area is full of culture, galleries, interesting shops, flee markets in green areas, as well as cafes
and restaurants.
All of it, in the unpretentious and kind way which makes
Berlin worth a visit.
“House of Finn Juhl” is open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, where Martina Münch and Manfred Werner greets
all with an interest in Finn Juhl, who would like to philosophize for half an hour in a Poet sofa.
Apart from the permanent Finn Juhl exhibition, there are
also special arrangements, which are announced sepe
rately.
San Francisco:
DWR – a new
co-operation in USA
We are very happy to present DESIGN WITHIN REACH
as a new dealer and co-operation partner in USA. DWR
has headquarters in San Francisco which covers all of
USA with more than 50 studios and internet trade. Up to
now 15 of these showrooms have been equipped with an
Finn Juhl exhibition delivered from Denmark and more of
the furniture is now on DWR’s stock, so they are “within
reach”.
We are much exited as we are experiencing a strong
coming interest in Finn Juhl from USA again. As it was
not at least in this market that Finn Juhl had his commercial breakthrough in the beginning of the 50’ies. It was
this market that made school and later on led to a true
export adventure of Danish furniture, generally under the
name of “Danish Design”.
We are really pleased about the co-operation with DWR
and a lot of kind and super interested people, who are
passionate for the original Finn Juhl design and now have
to spread the message to all of the USA. More info at

Asahikawa:
The world’s
largest collection
of chairs
At Hokkaido in Japan lives Professor Oda, who is one of
the world’s most enthusiastic collectors of classic chairs,
and with a special interest in Danish chairs. In a closed
wood dryers company with eight kilns he has 950 chairs
standing on charts running on rails in the floor and in his
own home Mr. Oda has 250 chairs. Most of them are
placed on shelves in the basement, however in turn they
are taken out and used in his private place.
The chairs are collected through the last 30 years and
Mr. Oda has met many of the known Danish architects,
among them he has met Finn Juhl several times and corresponded with him through a number of years until his
death in 1989.
-Finn Juhl was a super interesting man. He travelled the
world and exchanged knowledge with other architects in
a time, when this was not quite common, says Mr. Oda.
The year after Finn Juhl’s death Mr. Oda, at his own expense was part of a memorial exhibition of Finn Juhl and
his furniture, which was shown in Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya,
Tokyo and Asahikawa at Hokkaido.
Mr. Oda has today 48 examples of Finn Juhl’s furniture
in his collection and it is his big wish to make a museum
and show the complete chair collection, so that others
can take pleasure in the many beautiful designs. He himself cares most about Finn Juhl’s 45 chair, but Mrs. Oda
prefers the Pelican with sheepskin.

Osaka:
76 year old Nabe-San has through half a lifetime sold
classic Danish furniture, and in the later years especially
the design of Finn Juhl and his history has won her heart,
and without competition, she is the one individual world
wide, who is selling most Pelican chairs.
She is the
world’s best
and nicest
Pelican sales
lady
Nabe-San is employed at Danish Interiors, Onecollection’s agent and dealer in Japan and the Far East.
Onecollection has a very strong profile through the shop
of Danish Interiors in Hamamatsu and in the Hanshin Department Store in Osaka, where Nabe-San is working.
It is uplifting to experience Nabe-San doing her work with
such a great passion. We are very grateful having her as
a part of our work life, both professionally and as a friend
says Preben Pontoppidan, owner of Danish Interiors.
-Nabe-San quickly establishes a confidential relationship
with the customers without being obtrusive at all, she is
kind, loving and thoughtful and this constellation often
leads to a sale, explains Preben Pontoppidan.
When Danish Interiors got the first Pelican with sheepskin in the exhibition, only half a morning passed before
Nabe-San had sold it to a lady, who originally came to the
shopping centre with the purpose of buying a handbag!
-But she passed Nabe-San and forgot all about the
handbag and bought the sheepskin Pelican instead. This
episode illustrates well, how good Nabe-San is. She is
our super-power-Finn Juhl sales lady and we are proud
telling the world about her. She deserves it, determines
Preben Pontoppidan.

Relaunch of the book
“Arkitekten Finn
Juhl”
Onecollection has taken initiative to have the detailed
book “Arkitekten Finn Juhl” written by Esbjørn Hiort,
right after Finn Juhl’s death in 1989, relaunched in both
Danish and English in a co-operation with Arkitektens
Forlag. So now our customers and all the many people
around the world, who are interested in Finn Juhl, have
got a possibility to learn more about one of Denmark’s
greatest architects. Finn Juhl is known as one of Danish Furniture Art’s most original designers. He achieved
world’s reputation, partly through his furnishing of the UN
headquarters and his many international exhibitions, but
it is foremost because of his fantastic furniture, that he
today, nearly 100 years after his birth, has become “hot
stuff” all over the world. The book draws up a full toned
portrait of this furniture artist, who today is regarded as
the father of the conception Danish Design.
This year it is 70 years since Finn Juhl designed the Pelican chair. We are celebrating this by introducing a jubilee
edition which has buttons. When Finn Juhl introduced
the Pelican for the first time, at Snedkernes Efterårsudstilling in 1940, the chair actually did have buttons, but
most of the few chairs known from 1940 do not have
buttons.
The chair with buttons is already in production and will
from now on be available along with the model without
the buttons.
Call us and hear more about the possibilities of fabric
and colours, which can be combined in an individual way.
The book is available through Arkitektens Forlag.

Bessi
Onecollection was the company behind the delivery of
2300 Bessi chairs for one of the largest UN-conferences
ever, namely for the large conference hall at the climate
summit COP15 in Copenhagen in December 2009.

architect Erla Solveig

The Bessi chair was chosen, because it can be changed
and used for other purposes after the climate summit.
The seat and back are changeable, so the frame can be
re-used instead of being scrapped.
Overlooking the large COP15 conference hall in Bella
Center, Copenhagen the rows of chairs seemed endless.
There really were a lot of Bessi chairs in that enormous
room…
More than 2300 people participating had sit-and workstation here at the same time and with furniture from
Onecollection, who also delivered the 250 specially designed tables.
– There were incredible many chairs, perhaps the largest total delivery in later times for one of the world’s most
important meetings, and we got to be behind that, tells
Henrik Sørensen, manager of Onecollection.
Apart from that also several offices were furnished by
Onecollection, among them the office for UN Secretary
General Ban Ki Moon and the Danish Minister of Climate
Connie Hedegaard.

Rotterdam:
A master of
project control
Joost Cords, owner of the company BON & Co. is the
agent of Onecollection in the Benelux countries and it is
a co-operation we appreciate very much.
Joost is a trained architect and for many years he ran a
production company in the field of furniture and furnishing. Joost is a creative and solution-oriented person and
he has a huge knowledge concerning interior, he draws
in 3D – and he has a thorough knowledge concerning
material and construction.
In 2009 he was the man behind a large total furnishing project for the oilcompany VITOL’s new headquarters
in Rotterdam, for which Joost Cords used only furniture
from ONECOLLECTION and special designed furniture
made at Onecollection’s own factory ORLA ALBÆK A/S
in Ringkøbing. This turned out to be a very exclusive and
well carried out interior and the customer was pleased
with the result. An exemplary co-operation between BON
& Co., ONECOLLECTION and VITOL on time and with no
mistakes!

Kolding:

the beautiful
building
Louisehøj
8
At Hotel Koldingfjord, the beautiful 100 years old chief
physician’s house Louisehøj has it’s own garden and entrance, own kitchen and also a servant and cook, so the
place is ideal for discrete meetings. The furniture is a
chapter of it’s own.
This namely concerns Finn Juhl’s Baker sofa designed in
1951 with an upholstered body on a light wood construction and conference chairs, which the famous architect
designed in 1946 under the name of “model 109”. Both
models were handpicked from the Finn Juhl archive of
drawings where they had rested for nearly half a century.
Now they have again been put in production by Onecollection, who holds the sole rights to the Finn Juhl furniture and the first 2 sofas and 60 chairs were to decorate
the beautiful Louisehøj, so thought the visionary Hotel
Manager Peder J. Madsen and so it became.
Besides this furniture we have also used the Finn Juhl
Eyetable and 45 chairs. All made in oil treated walnut,
leather or textiles by the weaver Hanne Vedel. The large
conference tables are special made for this purpose and
made by Orla Albæk A/S. The interior was in the hands of
the company Design Solutions in Ringkøbing.

of Skykon A/S
Skykon A/S, we have just furnished the new headquarters at the old Pakhus 13 at the harbour of Århus. The
house has gone through a big restoration and the result
is completely unique frames for the domicile of the company.
A rare overall solution, where room and furniture forms a
synthesis. We have had a fantastic collaboration with the
company which has been deeply involved in the decoration and the choice of furniture.
For the meeting areas has been used the new Fortuna
chair, designed by architect Niels Gammelgaard. For the
offices were chosen Ezone working desks all in white designed by Henrik Tengler and NN-wall-and storage system designed by Lars Frank Nielsen/Onen Design. Finally
the Finn Juhl’s Baker couch and 45 chairs completes the
beautiful room creating an exclusive room with a free
view over the harbour of Århus.

Oslo:
Robert Tandberg –
partner for 20 years
20 years of fruitful co-operation has created a successful
alliance between Norway and Denmark – or rather between Onecollection and our Norwegian partner Robert
Tandberg AS.
Robert has in an ideal way developed and maintained
the co-operation with the best Norwegian architects and
interior architects. Through the years Onecolletion has
solved many interesting interior assignments in all of
Norway.
This has always been done in a close co-operation with
the architect as well as the end user. Our latest interior
assignment has been PETRO DATA in Oslo. Here the interior is the very flexible FACTORY system of work desks
and storage. Interior architect is Heidi Gulbrandsen, Oslo.
FACTORY is designed by
Henrik Tengler.

Søren Ulrik Petersen – just in CASE
Due to the ash cloud from an Icelandic volcano we got
stranded in Milan together with the designer Søren Ulrik
Petersen. He had a problem, as he could not get home
for his son’s confirmation.
We ourselves also wanted to go home and we decided
to call Ivan’s kind brother-in-law Søren Tuborg. He immediately drove a 6 person’s bus the 1700 Kilometres
from Ringkøbing to Milan in one go!
Søren Ulrik was so enthusiastic, so all the way home he
talked about an idea, he had thought of for some time,
concerning a new bookcase.
Before we got to DK the bookcase was in place – and
right after the models and samples were made.
Now you can see it at CODE 2010 in Bella Center in August under the name CASE.

TOMAT aps
the design
company of 2010
Architect Henrik Tengler has in co-operation with Hansen
& Sørensen ApS founded a new design company. The
company works with as well furniture – and product design, as with interior assignments and special solutions.
The design company is based on many years of co-operation solving a vast number of assignments, which give
lots of experience and a lot of knowledge on materials
and methods.
Onecollection’s customers, co-operation partners and
other interested can benefit of this knowledge and get
an impartial professional problem solution concerning
design – and interior assignments in 2D or 3D. Contact
Architect Henrik Tengler at tel. +45 26 15 50 46 or
[email protected]
The Funen based special cabinetmaker’s Pedersen
& Pilegaard has through 20 years been an invaluable
co-operation partner of Onecollection. The 13 employees at Pedersen & Pilegaard are capable of solving all
possible and impossible cabinetmaker’s assignments,
always made in the highest quality. Among many other
products, Pedersen & Pilegaard has since 1991 made
the CHAIRMAN chair for Onecollection and soon it has
become 50.000 pcs. of this beautiful chair designed by
Henrik Tengler.
Pedersen & Pilegaard is also the cabinetmaker’s behind
the spectacular “arkitektoner” which the architect company 3XN showed at the exhibition “Mind your behaviour”
at Dansk Arkitektur Center this year. “Arkitektonerne” are
complicated and abstract cut of buildings, which were
shown in full size. Several of them were up to 4 meters
high. For the time being the exhibition can be seen in Berlin.
-We have cut out more than 1000 plates in a kind of
a puzzle. It has been a very exiting assignment, where
our traditional cabinetmaker’s skills and the architects’
detailed drawings formed a synthesis, tells master cabinetmaker Mogens Pedersen.
For Kim Herforth Nielsen, partner and creative manager,
as well as founder of 3XN, the co-operation has also
been a positive experience.
-The complete assignment has been solved in an excellent way and delivered on time. If you can make design
furniture you can also make demanding models of architecture, says Kim Herforth Nielsen.
For the two owners master cabinetmaker Mogens Pedersen and master cabinetmaker Asger Pilegaard, it is all
about living up to the motto of the company: Handmade
quality on time – regardless it is a restoration assignment
or the production of a special made counter with sensitive electronics.

New and fine at the dentists
By Jette Sørensen
The wood sort walnut and brushed stainless steel is the
ongoing theme connecting the interior of the waiting
room at the dentists clinic Tandlægerne i Sydcenteret i
Kolding.
-It has been a really good process finding the right solution of the interior and the furniture for the waiting
room here at our clinic, determines dentist Henrik Lund,
Tandlægerne i Sydcentret, Kolding. The clinic has recently been rebuild and decorated with new furniture.
Originally the plan was only to change the counter in the
waiting room and to keep the original furniture.
-But we thought the ordinary clinic counters were boring.
A colleague, who had got a less traditional counter made,
recommend me calling Onecollection, so I tried that, tells
Henrik Lund.
Fairly quickly architect Henrik Tengler came by the clinic,
and made from his ideas and impressions an interior
suggestion. This contained, apart from a new counter,
also new chairs and desks plus a wardrobe with mirror
and a special made furniture for tooth brushes. This overall suggestion removed any doubt of only changing the
counter.
-Everyone thought it was over the moon. Before the waiting room reminded of a cosy living room, but now it is
contemporary without loosing the cosy feeling. It has become new and fine in the good way. The ongoing theme
in the interior is walnut and brushed stainless steel, so
that there is a clear thread in the interior, says Henrik
Tengler.
