8 DIOCESAN NEWS | Pittsburgh Catholic Oakland Catholic High School held separate baccalaureate and commencement exercises for its 162 graduating seniors. The Mass was held at 7 p.m. May 20 at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. The principal celebrant was Father Kris Stubna, rector and pastor of the cathedral. Concelebrating were school chaplains Fathers Robert George and Michael Roche and pastors from parishes where seniors are members. Commencement exercises were held May 22 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland. Officiating at the commencement ceremony were Dr. Maureen Marsteller, principal, Sharyn Zalno, assistant principal, Katherine Freyvogel, president, and Dr. Mary Catherine Conroy Hayden, chair of the board of directors. Marsteller distributed diplomas to the Class of 2013. Guest speaker was Marie Milie Jones, founding partner of Jones Passodelis PLLC. Class valedictorian is Katherine Kiran Girdhar. She is the daughter of Dr. Robin Girdhar and Madelyn Reilly. They are members of St. Paul Cathedral. Class salutatorian is Danielle Marie Harrington. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Harrington. They are members of Our Lady of Joy Parish in Holiday Park. Quigley Catholic High School in Baden will hold combined baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 40 graduating seniors. The Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at St. Ferdinand Church in Cranberry Township. The commencement ceremony will immediately follow the liturgy. Principal celebrant and homilist will be Father Michael Peck, parochial vicar at Good Samaritan Parish in Ambridge and St. John the Baptist Parish in Baden. George Lion will officiate at the commencement ceremony with Rita McCormick, principal, distributing diplomas to the Class of 2013. Class valedictorian is Morgan Dillon, daughter of Jeffrey and Tammy Dillon of Evans City. Morgan is a member of the National Honor Society. The Dillons are members of St. Matthias Parish in Evans City. Class salutatorian is William Koshut. He is the son of William and Lynn Koshut of Beaver Falls. William is a member of the National Honor Society as well. The Koshuts are members of St. Philomena Parish in Beaver Falls. Vincentian Academy in McCandless Township will hold combined baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 69 graduating seniors. The baccalaureate liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 2, at La Roche College in McCandless Township. Principal celebrant and homilist will be Spiritan Father Naos McCool. Richard Joseph Behun, principal, will officiate over the commencement ceremony and deliver diplomas to the Class of 2013. Class valedictorian is Daniel Bozik. He is the son of Drs. Michael and Elizabeth Bozik. They are members of St. Teresa of Avila Parish in Perrysville. Class co-valedictorian is Ryan Archer. He is the son of Richard and Lynn Archer, parishioners of St. Teresa of Avila. Class co-valedictorian is Michael Forrest. He is the son of Daniel and Lisa Forrest, also of St. Teresa of Avila. Seton-LaSalle High School in Mount Lebanon held combined baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 123 graduating seniors. The Mass and commencement exercises were held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, at St. Benedict the Abbot Church in Peters Township. Concelebrating the liturgy were Fathers James Bachner and Brian Noel, co-chaplains. Father Noel was the homilist. Lauren Martin, principal, officiated during the commencement ceremony and distributed diplomas to the Class of 2013. Class valedictorian is Nicholas Sywyj. He is the son of the Helen Sywyj and the late Andrew Sywyj. They are members of Resurrection Parish in Pittsburgh’s Brookline neighborhood. Class salutatorian is Margaret Welsh, the daughter of Kenneth and Patricia Welsh. They are members of St. Joan of Arc in South Park Township. Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood will hold separate baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 209 graduating seniors. The Mass was held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at St. Paul Cathedral. Principal celebrant was Father Nicholas Vaskov of the Class of 2001. Father Vaskov is parochal vicar at St. Joseph the Worker, Mary, Mother of Hope, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Vitus parishes — all in New Castle. Commencement exercises will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland. Christian Brother Patrick Duffy, president, will officiate. Brother Patrick, Christian Brother Robert Schaeffer, principal, and Edward Bernot, assistant principal for student affairs, will distribute diplomas to the Class of 2013. Class valedictorian is Neil Carleton. He is the son of Anita and Dennis Carleton of Sewickley. Class salutatorian is David McFall. He is the son of Theresa and John McFall of Lower Burrell. Friday, May 24, 2013 Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh in Hampton Township will hold separate baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises. The Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at Aquinas Academy Chapel. Principal celebrant and homilist will be Father Matthew McClain, parochial vicar of St. Wen- North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh’s Troy Hill neighborhood will hold separate baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 53 graduating seniors. The Mass will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. Principal celebrant and homilist will be Bishop David Zubik. Concelebrating will be Father Robert Fleckenstein. Commencement exercises will be held at 9 a.m. June 1 at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland. Dr. Michael Pendred II, principal, will officiate at the commencement ceremony. Pendred will also distribute diplomas to the Class of 2013. Guest speaker will be Len Komoroski, CEO, Cleveland Caveliers/Quicken Loans Arena. Class valedictorian is Lauren Wolosik, class vice president, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Wolosik of Pittsburgh and members of St. Cyril of Alexandria in Pittsburgh’s Brighton Heights neighborhood. Class salutatorian is Bailey Hollihan, class president, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Hollihan of Pittsburgh and members of Holy Spirit Parish. Bishop Canevin High School in Pittsburgh’s Oakwood neighborhood will hold separate baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 100 graduating seniors. The Mass was held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 23, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Carnegie. The main celebrant and homilist will be Father John Donahue, school chaplain and pastor of SS. Simon and Jude Parish in Scott Township. Father Mark Thomas, pastor of St. Norbert Parish in Pittsburgh’s Overbrook neighborhood, and pastors and associate pastors of students’ parishes will concelebrate. Commencement exercises will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, May 26, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. Marianne Reinhart, vice principal, will present the graduates, and Natalie Liptak, senior counselor, will present the awards. Kenneth Sinagra, president, and Karen Walker, principal, will confer diplomas to the Class of 2013. Stephen Wayhart, owner of Brandmill and member of the Class of 1979, is the guest speaker. Class valedictorian is Kala Ann Cinker, daughter of William and Susanna Cinker, will address the Class of 2013. The family lives in Pittsburgh and are members of St. Cyril Alexandria Parish in the city’s Brighton Heights neighborhood. Class salutatorian is James Steven Dlugos III, son of James Dlugos and Joseph and Lorraine Trapuzzano. He will address the Class of 2013 as well. James and his family live in Washington and are members of Immaculate Conception Parish. This is the 51st commencement for the high school. Special invited guests are the Class of 1963 who are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Moon Township will hold separate baccalaureate Mass and commencement ceremonies for its 92 graduating seniors. The Mass will be held at noon on Sunday, June 2, in the Our Lady of Sacred Heart Chapel. The main celebrant will be Father Michael Yaksick, school chaplain and member of the Class of 1986. Father Yaksick is pastor of St. Blaise Parish in Midland. Assisting Father Yaksick will be Deacon Kevin Lander. Commencement ceremonies will immediately follow in OLSH’s Angela Activities Center. Tim Plocinik, principal, will officiate at the ceremony. Terry O’Rourke Donoghue, president, and Plocinik will distribute diplomas to the Class of 2013. Guest speaker will be Attorney William Stickman, Class of 1998, who will welcome the Class of 2013 as OLSH alumni. Class valedictorian is Grace Anne Quigley, daughter of Ed and Karen Quigley of Monaca and members of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Center Township. Class co-salutatorians are Alexandra Marie George, daughter of Brian and Beverly George of Baden and members of St. Mary in Glenfield; and Rachel Nicole Petro, daughter of William and Christine Petro of Clinton and members of St. Joseph Parish in Coraopolis. Class president is Maria Danielle DiSanto, daughter of David and Mary DiSanto of McKees Rocks and members of St. John of God Parish. St. Joseph High School inSt. Joseph High School in Natrona Heights will hold combined baccalaureate Mass and commencement exercises for its 51 graduating seniors. The baccalaureate liturgy will be at 7 p.m. Friday, May 31, at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Natrona Heights. Principal celebrant will be Father James Mazurek, pastor of Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph parishes. Homilist for the liturgy will be Msgr. James Gaston of St. Margaret Mary Parish in Lower Burrell. Beverly Kaniecki, principal, will officiate over the commencement ceremony. Father Mazurek, Kimberly Minick, assistant principal, and Kaniecki will deliver diplomas to the Class of 2013. Student speakers will be valedictorian(s) or salutatorian(s) who were yet to be determined. The Mass was offered at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, May 19, at the high school. The principal celebrant and homilist was Father Joseph Mele, diocesan secretary for leadership development. Commencement exercises will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at St. Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood. Guest speaker will be Attorney Victor Pribanic. Officiating at the ceremony will be Father Stephen Kresak, school chaplain, assisted by Fathers Joseph Grosko, Alexis Anania (OFM), and Stephen Chervenak. Diane DiNardi, president, and Tim Chirdon, principal, will distribute diplomas to the Class of 2013. Class valedictorian is Zakary Olyarnik, son of Robin and Kurt Olyarnik of White Oak. The Olyarniks are members of Corpus Christi Parish in McKeesport. Class salutatorian is Marlena Darr, daughter of Rosemary and Gerald Darr of McKeesport.
