Fall is in the Air
Well folks, the Holidays are fast approaching. Thanksgiving is just around the
corner and barely 2 weeks later is the Club Christmas party. Imagine in just 2 weeks we
can increase the size of our waistline by inches and inches!
October & November were busy times for the club and it seems as if the last of
November and ealy December will be more of the same.
I want to remind everyone of the Club Christmas party December 12, make your
reservations for a good time, the more the merrier.
The hot humid weather has finally broken so now is a wonderful time to drive the
LBC’s.

Field Day at Towne Square
Story & Photos by Ralph Decker
From LBC Display to Burgers and Beer
October was a busy month, the highlight was our British Car display, and swap meet at the Townesquare Mall. About
twenty British Cars came and went, making it hard to know the exact number. As with the March display, British Car
enthusiasts would see the gathering from US 19 and stop to say hello. It was good to welcome back the Bridge’s with
their beautiful XKE which has been missed over the summer. It was also nice to see JD Sellers from the Villages, who
had a trunk full of goodies to sell. The display at the Townesquare Mall, gives us a chance to wander into Chili’s
Restaurant for a snack or drink, do a little Mall browsing, or just catch up with each other. John Dorgan dusted off
the Iris Blue MGA construction project and made an appearance, as did my Black Bug-eye Sprite.

River Ratz and Mini Fun Run
Story & Photos by Ralph Decker
Speaking
Black Bug-eye, it successfully went from one end of the County to the other in October, but it was
on two different days. Burger and a Beer was held at River Ratz Restaurant, which is locate in beautiful Nobelton
Florida. Five LBC tripped from Gator Printing to the Restaurant, with a couple more joining us there, to enjoy a
relaxing lunch along the Withlacoochee River. Afterwards the group explored another one of Hernando’s lessor
know river boat ramps and fishing piers, during which time Steve applied for a job with the County......Better luck next

Black Diamond Car Show
Story & Photos by Ralph Decker
In all honesty, I think the best way to describe the Black
Diamond Invitational Car Show hosted by the Black
Diamond Development, was by the Gentleman who parked
next to me, in a fantastic Black and White Chevrolet Malibu.
As we were parked on the top of the hill looking out over
the Black Diamond Golf Course and the multitude of cars
surrounding three of the fairways and greens, he simply
said, “there just isn’t a car here that isn’t exceptional” not
your typical parking lot hot rod car show, I agreed.
I didn’t mention to him that my MGA was at a boil as I
arrived, and as I left my accelerator cable snapped, so
maybe exceptional was a little premature. It was however
amazing. Representing the Nature Coast Club was Ron
Finch and his Austin Healey, next to Ron, Bill Emerson had
his Austin Healey Sprite, Bill Mansfield and his MG Midget,
Nancilu Patton and her 1998 XK-8, Haydon Fouke and his
red 420 MGA, the freshly painted Mini Taxi of Richard and
Bev Reiss, and Shelley and I with the Black MGA.
There was a slight delay pulling into the development
and clearing the guard house, but after that dozens of
volunteers directed the show cars to the photograph area,
then to the parking location on the golf course. Registration
moved with the parking crew, and as you parked you were
handed your registration packet. That was how the entire
show progressed, very well laid out, and extremely well
staffed.
It was difficult to take in the 200 plus cars, and give each
the attention they deserved. Cobra kit cars and 50’s
Corvettes were common place and I found myself wanting
to move on to the really unique stuff. Like the three wheel
Slingshot or the 7.3 Lt. Diesel Packard, or the 1921 Dodge
Touring Car, or the 1936 Auburn Boat tail Speedster, or
the 1955 Packard Patrician. However the 1959 perfectly
restored Pontiac Catalina, a close cousin to the car I took
my drivers exam in (50 years ago), warmed my heart.
The festivities actually started Friday evening with a meet
and greet get together at the Black Diamond Country Club,
then moved to the Golf Course Saturday Morning.
Between the fairways was a hospitality tent to relax in or
have a drink from the bar. Five different food vendors were
there along with live entertainment. If you wished to go to
the Club House or another area of the field several shuttle
golf carts were making the rounds on a regular schedule.
The awards ceremony was about an hour late, which really
isn’t uncommon at car shows, Richard and Bev’s Taxi and
Shelley and my MGA won awards at the show.
All in all the Black Diamond Invitational Car show was a
first class event and should be a must do show when our
Club is invited next year.
