video is divided into several sections and covers the considerations for selecting the official goals,
discusses the framework for DIBELS use within an outcomes-driven model of educational decision
making, and shows the application of the goals to actual student data, including how they predicts

F A Q Corner
Answers to your DIBELS Next Questions
Do you have a question about DIBELS Next scoring, administration, or data
interpretation? Email DMG at [email protected].
Q: I have a student with limited English proficiency. Can I translate the DIBELS Next directions into her
native language?
A: You may, but doing so would be considered an “unapproved accommodation,” so you wouldn’t
consider the score an official DIBELS score. What it can be used to do is compare the child’s scores
(English directions vs. native language) to see if there is a significant discrepancy, as this information is
instructionally relevant. You could note next to the student’s official benchmark score if a higher score
was achieved with directions given in the student’s native language.
DIBELS Next Training
Events A number of DIBELS
Next Training events will be held in
Oklahoma in September, October,
and November. Workshop topics
include DIBELS Next scoring, data
interpretation and planning effective
reading instruction. For more information or to register for a workshop,

Q: Can the median error score for DORF come from a different passage than the median Words Correct
score?
A: Yes. For benchmark assessment, you will always take the both the median Words Correct score and
the median Errors score, which may come from two different passages. Those two scores are then used
to calculate the Accuracy score.
