Email DMG at [email protected]. Q: I have a student with limited English proficiency. Can I translate the DIBELS Next directions into her native language? A: You may, but doing so would be considered an “unapproved accommodation,” so you wouldn’t consider the score an official DIBELS score. What it can be used to do is compare the child’s scores (English directions vs. native language) to see if there is a significant discrepancy, as this information is instructionally relevant. You could note next to the student’s official benchmark score if a higher score was achieved with directions given in the student’s native language. DIBELS Next Training Events A number of DIBELS Next Training events will be held in Oklahoma in September, October, and November. Workshop topics include DIBELS Next scoring, data interpretation and planning effective reading instruction. For more information or to register for a workshop, visit http://dibels.org/. RTI Early Childhood Summit The Center for Response to Intervention in Early Childhood (CRTIEC) will host the 4th Annual RTI Early Childhood Summit. The summit is open to students, practitioners, administrators, policy makers, parents, and researchers who would like more information about the use of RTI in early childhood programs. Q: Can the median error score for DORF come from a different passage than the median Words Correct score? A: Yes. For benchmark assessment, you will always take the both the median Words Correct score and the median Errors score, which may come from two different passages. Those two scores are then used to calculate the Accuracy score. © 2012 Dynamic Measurement Group Email [email protected] today to start receiving the DIBELS Newsletter! ®
