President’s Summer Message
MARK YOU CALENDAR FOR THESE
UPCOMING EVENTS:
June is now almost over, we are in the middle of
a San Diego summer. I hope everyone is having
a great one so far. We had a wonderful end of
the year luncheon and installation, a big THANK
YOU to Bobbie Wheeler and Karen Reed for all
their great planning and work making the day super. Karen
had a very productive and enjoyable two years. I hope the
next two will have good memories for all our members.
Membership is our club’s greatest need. We need to
increase our active membership by at least 25 members by
the end of the year. This can and will happen if everyone
gets behind the Board and invites neighbors, family and
friends to join. We need to replace the members that have
moved to be near family, died or just unable to participate.
All of us are not getting younger, a fact of life, and we need
others to keep the SDWC Clubhouse viable. Support the
membership process, we need everyone to participate, if
we want to keep the SDWC functioning as we now know it.
Change can be good, but let’s try to keep the changes small
and what the membership wants.
The Board invites all members to give us program
and project ideas. SDWC is a club of members not just the
Board. We have several committees and invite you to sign
up to make the club year fun and exciting. We have our
125th Anniversary Celebration in February. Karen is in
charge and would like your ideas and participation.
Fundraising always needs ideas.
I would like to see our club assist the aging-out foster
youth (those reaching 18). They often have not had a good
family background and do not have the proper skills that
most teens learn at home from loving parents. We can
work with existing groups to make this happen. Watch for
more on these projects as the year progresses.
The year book will go to press later this summer, for
distribution in September. Make sure your information is
correct in last year’s book or it will be wrong or incomplete
again. It is your job to check and let Karen or me know the
corrections. If you have changed or added an email let us
know so you can get the bulletins quicker. The $10 fee for
mailed bulletins is now due and Bulletin Angels ($35
minimum donation) are always appreciated.
The Rummage Sale, Saturday, August 13, can
always use more items to sell and helpers to sort, price and
then cashiers, helpers and packers that day. Everyone has
a good time, lots of laughs and super buys. We all bring
items, but most end up taking home an item that is just what
they had been looking for. One person’s junk is another’s
treasure!
I have said too much, more information later, have a
great Summer. See you at the Club. We aren’t having
meetings, but card parties, Arts & Crafts and Movies will
continue through the summer. Check the calendars in this
bulletin.

FOOLS RUSH IN
Matthew Perry (Chandler from
TV's "Friends") stars as Alex
Whitman, a New Yorker sent to
Las Vegas to oversee a construction project. There he
meets Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek, Desperado), and
some serious chemistry brings them together for one
night. But Alex doesn't see Isabel again until three months
later, when he learns that she is pregnant. On a whim and
a prayer, he proposes. However, there's more to marriage
than a Vegas chapel and an Elvis impersonator, as Alex
and Isabel soon learn in this perfect date movie.
