frequently
asked
questions
what should i wear?
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for all shore
excursions. When you visit places of worship, we recommend
dressing conservatively (no shorts or sleeveless tops), but casual
clothing is perfectly acceptable. Dress in layers and have a jacket
along. Bring an umbrella or raincoat, a hat and sunscreen.
what about meals?
Most tour departures complement the ship’s meal service hours.
In-room dining is available on board.
how will i know what time each tour departs?
The on-board Shore Excursions Order Form in your stateroom
will show departure times. This information will also be printed
on your shore excursion tickets, which you will receive on board.
Approximate tour departure times are posted on our website at
www.hollandamerica.com.
i have a disability. how do i know which tours will best suit
me? will i have a problem (dis)embarking the ship?
Guests with disabilities should inquire in advance whether a
shore excursion will be able to accommodate their needs. We
have graded the Shore Excursions according to the relative level
of activity they entail. The walking icons that appear at
the beginning of each tour description provide a general idea of
the level of activity to expect. Please refer to the “How to Choose
Your Tours” section in this brochure for specific information
on the walking icons. It is important to keep in mind that shore
excursion operators are subject to the laws of their own country
including with respect to accommodating the needs of guests
with disabilities. In most foreign countries, the laws are not as
stringent as those in the United States. Please speak with the
Shore Excursions Office as to whether you can expect to encounter difficulties (dis)embarking the ship in a particular port of call.
In this regard, the decision whether or not to carry or provide
other mobility assistance to a guest and their mobility assistance
device (wheelchair, walker, etc.) up or down a ship’s gangway,
or on or off a tender boat, is at the sole discretion of the Captain,
made based on his evaluation of guest and crew safety.
We encourage you to bring a collapsible wheelchair as space
limitations may restrict the ability of some tour operators to
accommodate motorized mobility aid devices.
i am traveling with friends and we would like to be on the
same motor coach
The departure location for each shore excursion is printed on
your shore excursion tickets. If you wish to travel with friends,
please arrive at the designated meeting place together. This will
enable the staff to allocate space for you on the same vehicle.
tour durations
The individual tour descriptions include approximate durations. To allow our Shore Excursions Managers flexibility
to coordinate your time in port with meals and activities on
the ship, exact departure times are published in the Shore
Excursions Order Form on board. For more information, please
attend the Shore Excursions Presentation or visit the Shore
Excursions Office.
tour descriptions
Tour descriptions may change after printing. Information that
becomes available after this brochure is published will be posted in
the Shore Excursions section of our website, which can be found
online at www.hollandamerica.com. Significant changes will be
noted on the Shore Excursions Order Form on board. Tour
schedules are subject to change.

and an afternoon of sampling local wine at a vineyard; or even
a bike ride and an evening cultural performance—all in one
day! Whatever your interests, and whichever pace suits you best,
there’s a huge variety of tours to mix and match in this brochure.

how to
choose

Choose your shore excursions by using these icons as a
general guide to the level of activity involved, and select the
shore excursions best suited to your physical capabilities.

distances to walk; may include some steps.
moderate activity: Requires intermittent effort
throughout, including walking medium distances
over uneven surfaces and/or steps.

general information for booking online
At the time of making your reservations online, we will advise
you whether or not your reservations are confirmed or whether
you have been waitlisted. Your credit card will be charged
immediately for all confirmed reservations. Should space
become available for a waitlisted shore excursion request, we
will e-mail or otherwise contact you at that time and either
immediately charge your credit card if you have already given us
your credit card information or ask you to provide us with that
information for immediate charge processing. Shore excursion
reservations are subject to cancellation by us at any time prior
to the credit card charge being accepted by your bank. If you or
Holland America cancel a tour more than 53 days prior to cruise
departure, we will issue a credit on the credit card that you used
to pay for the reservation. For any cancellation within 53 days of
departure, a credit will not be given on your credit card. Instead,
we will apply an ONBOARD CREDIT ONLY policy under
which the refund (less any cancellation fee) will show up as a
credit to the shipboard account of the person who was to take
the shore excursion. If the credit is not fully utilized during the
cruise, the balance will be paid to that guest by the ship’s Purser.
slower pace, these excursions offer sightseeing mainly
from the transportation vehicle, with few or no stops,
and no mandatory disembarkation during the tour. As
vehicles outside the USA are rarely lift-equipped and
ramps are seldom available, a very small amount of
walking will be necessary. The pace will be gentle and
taking your time is encouraged.
limited capacity: The number of people able to
participate in this tour is strictly limited. Reasons for
limiting capacity may include the number of transportation seats available, or to maintain a safe ratio of
guides for hikes, fishing and water activities. Tours
require a minimum number of participants to operate.
meal: This tour includes a meal—lunch on daytime
tours, or dinner on evening tours.
snack: This tour includes a small snack or tasting
of local specialties. The snack is not a meal.

What fascinates you? A cooking class with a local
chef? A private car, complete with driver and guide,
so you can explore near or far? A chance to encounter wildlife or view natural wonders up close?
The Collections of Holland America Line represent
a small subset of the shore excursions you will find
in this brochure. Each collection offers its own
particular focus and is available only in select ports.
the collections
of Holland
America Line
Medallion Collection
A series of exclusive experiences designed to
accommodate our most discerning guests, our
Medallion Collection tours are each carefully
chosen to provide an in-depth perspective. They
offer unparalleled access to events and sights not normally readily
available. First-class style, smaller groups, multi-day Overland
Adventures—elite activities for a privileged few.
Encore Collection
Been there, done that? Think again. Our Encore
Collection, designed especially for repeat guests,
lets you discover what lies beyond the wellknown attractions you’ve already seen. Barbecue
with Argentine gauchos, bike the tree-lined boulevards of
Barcelona, ride an Icelandic pony across a windswept beach near
Reykjavik. These tours showcase hidden gems, unusual angles
and inside stories that will bring you back time and again.
World Wonders Collection
Natural treasures, architectural marvels,
technical wonders: to the Seven Wonders of
the World we add our own nominations based
on decades of leadership in global travel—the
sandstone city of Petra, the moai statues of Easter Island, and the
Great Wall of China, among others. What they have in common
is the ability to inspire awe.
Cruise with Purpose Collection
For every global citizen who has ever dreamed
of either giving back or paying it forward, the
innovative Cruise with Purpose Collection is quite
simply about improving our planet one voyage at
a time. Assist in scientific research, bring much-needed supplies to
an orphanage, participate in a fair trade scheme or cultural
exchange, replant native forest or restore fragile habitat—your
footprint will be light and your soul enriched.
Signature Collection
This exclusive touring option for independentminded travelers lets you completely customize
and maximize your time ashore by reserving
private transportation (along with an Englishspeaking driver and guide) in advance. Whether you travel by car
or minivan, customized boat, classic floatplane or stretch SUV
limousine, you choose the companions, sights and pace that
perfectly suit you.
to whom is the signature collection suited? The Signature
Collection is for solo travelers, couples, families, friends and
special interest groups traveling together. This may also be an
excellent choice for non-ambulatory guests. Value and flexibility
are just two of the advantages of first-class touring and luxury
transportation. Privacy, comfort, safety, and personalized guide
service are also yours to enjoy.
about the transportation: Each type of transportation will
be of the highest grade available in that port. Not all modes of
transportation are available in all locations. For information
about the transportation sizes and availability, please see our
website at www.hollandamerica.com.
pricing: The cost of each type of transportation will be published
online at www.hollandamerica.com.
also included: The cost includes the service of a driver and English-
speaking guide, unlimited mileage, road tolls, parking fees and
bottled water.
not included (unless otherwise noted): Guests’ entrance fees
for attractions are not included in the price due to the wide range
of attraction possibilities, uncertain number of attractions to be
visited, and varying number of guests participating. We strongly
recommend that you bring some local currency to cover such
costs as credit cards are not readily accepted in some ports. Lunch
will not be included on any tour as many guests prefer to select
their own dining venue.
itinerary planning: If you need help planning your personal
itinerary, the Port Lecturer and/or Shore Excursions Manager
can assist you and will gladly answer your questions. This can
be very helpful in many destinations where travel time, location,
holidays, and opening hours of attractions need to be taken into
consideration in order to maximize the efficiency of your time
ashore.
online reservations: The fastest and easiest way for you to
reserve and pay for your Signature Collection experience is
on the Holland America Line website. Visit us online at www.
hollandamerica.com. Please note the cost will be per mode of
transportation (not per person), so only one person in the party
needs to make the reservation. The price shown on the website
is the total cost for the transportation, driver and guide (not a
per-person price). In many ports, availability is extremely limited.
Please reserve as early as possible.
payment & tour vouchers: Your credit card will be charged
after your reservation is confirmed. Next, start planning what
you’ll do with your Signature Collection experience in each port.
On board the ship, you will be given a form to advise the Shore
Excursions Office of the itinerary you have chosen.
booking on board: The Signature Collection may be available for
booking once you are on the ship, but this cannot be guaranteed.
Please check with the Shore Excursions Office on board.
disembarking the ship: In some disembarkation ports, a private
vehicle and guide can be used for sightseeing en route to the
airport. When booking, please advise the total amount of luggage
for your party. Size of vehicle and luggage space may limit the
number of guests in the vehicle.

expressing happiness as it incorporates
elements of Spanish music in lighter forms

Leaving the harbor of Marseille, you will head
by motor coach to Roussillon—reputedly
one of the most beautiful villages of France.
Rousillon stands on the highest hills between
the Coulon Valley and the Vaucluse Plateau.
It is a magical village of vibrant colors that
catch your attention around every corner.
Walk with your guide to discover the quarries
of ochre or the village itself; then, you will
have some free time before lunch at a local
restaurant. The village of Gordes is another
spectacular sight, rising in picturesque tiers
on the Vaucluse Plateau. Enjoy the
atmosphere of this charming Provençal
village and stroll through the small paved,
and sometimes stepped, alleyways with
vaulted passageways and arcades of tall
houses and rampart ruins. By the time you
return to the ship you will do so with
marvelous images in mind.
Leaving the harbor of Marseille, you will
drive to Aix-en-Provence, passing the
scenery of southern France en route. This was
once the capital of the Provence region and
its attractions are many. First you will set out
on a walking tour along the Cours Mirabeau.
This wide avenue is shaded by trees and was
built in the 1600s on the site of the city’s
medieval ramparts; its verdant tunnel of
foliage protects pedestrians from the heat of
the Provençal sun. The aristocratic façades of
the old mansions line the Cours and their
wrought-iron balconies and finely carved
doorways invite the visitor to explore. You
will see a fountain dating back to 1743,
particularly noteworthy for producing 93°F
water which the Romans believed had healing
properties. Note the different architectural
styles of Saint Sauveur Cathedral with a
Romanesque nave, a Merovingian baptistery
and a Gothic section. These various styles
date between the 5th and 17th centuries.
Whatever your interest, the ambiance of Aixen- Provence makes for an enjoyable
excursion into France. At the end of your
walking tour, enjoy some free time before reboarding your coach for the drive back to
Marseille.
Leaving the harbor of Marseille, your first
stop will be at the city of Arles. A walk
through the Old Town’s narrow streets
reveals St Trophîme Church—a masterpiece
of the late Provençal Romanesque style.
Continue past the Town Hall, rebuilt in 1673
with an obelisk from Arles’ Roman circus. At
Forum Square, you’ll see the center of
town—a meeting point over the centuries for
famous artists, including Vincent Van Gogh.
You’ll also walk to the amphitheatre dating
back to the days when the Romans occupied
Arles. Re-board your coach for a drive
through the Provençal countryside to the
village of Les Baux. You will stop at a
restaurant located at the foot of the village.
Relax with and enjoy a delicious lunch of
typical Provençal specialties. In the town of
Les Baux located high atop a rocky spur, a
fortified castle lies in ruins above small
provincial old houses. Enjoy a walking tour
through the village, with time at leisure to
explore on your own.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Please note: Travel time to Arles is
approximately 75 minutes, and the return
drive from Les Baux is also approximately 75
minutes. Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Chateau Neuf du Pape
& Avignon
Departs: 8:30 AM
Approximately 8 Hours
Adult $214.95; Child $124.95
The most intoxicating of all the wines of the
Rhône was named after the town of Chateau
Neuf. Your coach will take you to the town
whose original vineyards were planted on
land belonging to the Avignon popes. Your
first stop will be at a local winery to taste the
yields of age-old tradition. Then you will
continue to Avignon where lunch will be
served. The city of Avignon is caretaker to the
art and culture of the Vaucluse region—it
sprawls along the banks of the Rhône River,
surrounded by ramparts and dominated by
the massive Dome Rock. The cathedral and
the Palace of the Popes stand atop the rock,
towering majestically over the rest of the
town. You will visit the palace for a glimpse
of the privilege that abounded when France
was a major player in the papacy. After a
guided walking tour, you will have some
time to explore at your leisure in Avignon.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
Travel time to Chateau Neuf is approximately
1½ hours, and the return drive from Avignon
is also approximately 1½ hours.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.

the Eyes of Cezanne
Departs: 8:15 AM
Approximately 5 Hours
Price $69.95
Leaving the harbor of Marseille, you will
drive to Aix-en-Provence, passing the scenery
of southern France before reaching the
charming old town of Aix. This was the
capital of the Provence region and its
attractions are many such as the print of the
painter Cezanne.
Upon arrival, you will make a photo stop at
Jas de Bouffan, property bought by Cézanne's
father in 1859, which holds the memories of
Cézanne’s youth and of the family.
Continue your visit to Aix city center where
you will begin your walking tour on the grand
Cours Mirabeau; a wide avenue built on the
site of the city's medieval ramparts and
shaded by leafy 200-year-old trees. The
avenue is one of the city's most beautiful, so
be sure to notice the elegant facades of its
private mansions, especially their wroughtiron balconies and finely carved doorways.
Explore the old Mazarin District, founded by
Archbishop Michel Mazarin in 1646, and
later home to many writers and artists such as
Paul Cézanne. The district is also noted for its
meticulously kept walled gardens.
Discover beautiful St. Sauveur Cathedral with
its many contrasting architectural styles, a
legacy of countless additions and renovations
performed between the 5th and 18th
centuries.
Most notable are the remnants of a Romanera wall that were used in a later wall, and the
15th century Gothic portal. Enjoy free-time
in town.
Your next stop will leads you up to the
Painters Square where you can admire a
beautiful view over Aix en Provence
surroundings and the Sainte Victoire
Mountain, and where are exhibited some
Cezanne paintings reproductions.
Finally, take the Tholonet small road in Aix
countryside, which makes room for a view of
the compact mass of the Sainte Victoire
Mountain, and runs alongside the Chateau
Noir. Cezanne rented a room in order to be
near the motifs which fascinated him. He
continued to come here to paint even after he

walled city of Lucca for a walking tour to the
beautiful Cathedral of San Martino, the Piazza
Anfiteatro, the Church of San Frediano,
Guinigi's Tower and the outside of the
Church of San Michele. Browse on your own
during some free time, then meet back up in
the Piazzale Verdi to leave Lucca by coach.
Stop at a typical farmhouse to enjoy a
Tuscan lunch and, depending on location,
visit the wine cellars or the gardens
accompanied by the owner. From there it’s
just 15 minutes by coach to Villa
Torrigiani—one of the most important and
beautiful houses in the Lucchese territory,
with beautiful fountains and trees. Step inside
the villa; then, you will have time to stroll in
the garden on your own.
Experience Pisa and its Renaissance splendor
on a walking tour of the Campo dei Miracoli
(Field of Miracles). Depart the pier in a
comfortable, air-conditioned motor coach for
the scenic drive to Pisa, where you will
disembark and proceed first to visit the
duomo (cathedral). The impressive black and
white arches found in the interior are thought
to have been inspired by Moorish
architecture. Following this, step inside the
Romanesque-style Baptistery—the largest in
Italy—dedicated to St John the Baptist. Like
the iconic Leaning Tower, this circular
structure also began listing during its
construction in the mid-17th century.
Nevertheless, the acoustics inside the building
are said to be perfect. Walk with your guide
to the base of the Leaning Tower of Pisa and
commence the 294-step climb to the top.
During construction, the foundation of the
Tower settled unevenly, resulting in the
famous tilt you’ll see today: a tipsy 14 degrees
from the perpendicular. Once at the top, you
will have excellent views over the Campo dei
Miracoli—definitely worth the slightly
challenging ascent. Afterwards, you will have
free time to browse for mementos of your
visit at the numerous stalls lining the Field of
Miracles before you re-board the coach and
relax on the journey back to the ship.
Please note: Most shops will be closed on
statutory holidays, on Sundays and on
Monday mornings. Use of an audio headset
(included) will enhance your tour experience.
Please note: Restoration work is often
underway at the various venues. Modest
attire is required to enter religious sites;
knees, shoulders and midriffs must be
covered. Some sites charge a small admission
fee; bring local currency. Climbing the
Leaning Tower is not recommended for
guests who suffer from vertigo. Minimum age
is 8 years. Bags are not permitted inside the
tower, but can be checked upon entry.
Participants must negotiate stairs and/or
uneven surfaces. Wear comfortable, non-skid
walking shoes. Wear sunglasses and
sunscreen; bring a hat.

Departs: 8:00 AM
Approximately 5 Hours
Price $99.95
Experience the delights of a charming
medieval town during this leisurely
excursion. Drive through the lovely Tuscan
countryside to the city of Lucca—birthplace
of the composer Puccini. Lucca is enclosed by
massive red brick walls that lend the city a
special character, effectively removing it from
the bustle of the modern world. Built between
1504 and 1645, the walls are among the bestpreserved defenses in all of Renaissance
Europe. This excursion will give you the
opportunity to discover Lucca from another
point of view. As you bike around the walls,
your guide will point out some of the most
important monuments—including the
Church of San Frediano, Palazzo Pfanne's
garden, Guinigi's tower and the cathedral of
St Martin. Inside the walls, Lucca is a peaceful
city of narrow roads and medieval houses
that keep to the original Roman plans. Your
tour will continue on foot up to Piazza
dell'Anfiteatro, which occupies the site of the
ancient Roman theater and is surrounded by
fascinating medieval houses built up against
the wall of the amphitheater. Enjoy free time
for exploring on your own before re-joining
your coach for the return drive to pier.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Approximately 9½ Hours

Discover rural Tuscany on an excursion to
two walled medieval towns. Explore San
Gimignano on your own and then enjoy a
guided walking tour through Volterra to visit
the major sights. During the 90-minute scenic
drive northeast from Livorno, you will pass
several medieval Tuscan hill towns. The
rolling slopes are covered with vineyards and
silvery-green olive groves, providing an
abundance of wonderful photo opportunities.
Sample the local cuisine and shop for fine
wines, statues and ceramics. As you arrive in
San Gimignano, you’ll notice the imposing
fortified walls and watchtowers—hallmarks
of power and prosperity in the Middle Ages.
Thirteen of the town's original 76 towers are
still standing today. You’ll have about an
hour and a half here to explore on your own
and walk through the narrow, cobblestone
streets to see the triangular Piazza Cisterna.
You may also want to check out the Piazza
del Duomo—site of the Collegiata
Romanesque cathedral known for its
excellent frescoes. Once you have worked up
an appetite, head to a nearby farmhouse to
experience the flavors of Tuscany during a
delicious lunch. From here, you’ll proceed to
the town of Volterra. A trading center since
the days of the Etruscans, Volterra sits on a
rocky plateau and is protected by medieval
ramparts. Your walking tour takes in the
Piazza dei Priori—one of Italy's most
impressive squares, the Piazza San

and the ruins of an ancient Roman
amphitheater that dates back to the 1st

alabaster, and you will find a number of
shops selling beautiful alabaster statues and
furniture. Take some free time to browse
among their wonderful collections before the
panoramic drive back to Livorno.

Day 2 – August 26 - Rome to Civitavecchia
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Don't miss this perfect introduction to the
sovereign State of the Vatican. Come explore
the richest storehouse of art in the entire
world at the Vatican Museums. As you walk
through one room after another in the
Vatican, you will be awed by the size and
scope of the incredible collections displayed
in the Tapestry and Geographical Maps
Galleries, and the Candelabra Gallery. Finally,
you will reach the Sistine Chapel, perhaps the
most famous church in the world, which
holds an invaluable collection of masterpieces
by Botticelli, Signorelli, Perugino, and, of
course, Genesis and The Last Judgment by
Michelangelo Buonarroti who spent four
grueling years painting 10,000 square feet of
the Chapel’s ceiling. After the visit, enter the
vast expanse of St. Peter's Square, which can
hold more than 300,000 people. Pass through
the embracing arms of Bernini’s colonnades
and enter St. Peter's Basilica, Christendom’s
largest church. To illustrate its enormity, look
at the metal markers on the floor inside
showing the comparative lengths of other
churches and cathedrals. Suspended over the

countryside. You will follow the Appian
Way, one of the first ancient Roman military
roads into the campagna (countryside) dotted
with farmhouses, villas and palaces. In
Rome’s wine-growing hinterland, you will

Adult $109.95; Child $79.95
Founded by King Anco Marzio around the
4th century BC, Ostia Antica was Rome’s
main commercial port and military base, with
a population at its peak of nearly 100,000
inhabitants. Barbarian invasions and malaria
led to the decline of city and eventually all the
inhabitants abandoned it. Buried for
centuries by sand, the city is remarkably well
preserved and, although less spectacular than
Pompeii or Herculaneum, it gives a more
complete picture of the life in the Roman
Empire. Your visit starts at Via delle Tombe,
which leads to the Porta Romana—one of the
city’s three gates. This is the beginning of
Decumanus Maximus, the main road through
the town. From the Neptune and Amphitride
Baths, walk to the theater built by Agrippa
and to the Forum, which formed the center
of the city. Discover the main public
buildings—the Capitolium and the Temple of
Rome and Augustus. There are no fewer than
18 temples dedicated to the Persian god
Mithras as well as a Jewish Synagogue dating
from the 1st century BC and a Christian
basilica. See the House of Diana and the
Termopolium, an ancient Roman bar with a
marble counter and a fresco representing the
fruits and foodstuffs that were sold there.

Today you will follow in the footsteps of
Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in the
famous romantic fairytale movie Roman
Holiday. Begin with a walk to the Spanish
Steps, then continue on foot to the Trevi
Fountain, where you will toss in a coin to
ensure your return to Rome. Reach the
Pantheon and enjoy a delicious Italian gelato
ice cream just like Princess Ana did. After
this short stop, continue to Navona Square,
where you will have some free time to
explore. Meet your bus nearby and head for
the beautiful Palazzo Brancaccio—the last
Roman patrician palace built in 1880 in the
heart of the Eternal City. Located on Colle
Oppio, the ancient Roman hill near Emperor
Nero's Domus Aurea, between the Colosseum
and the famous Basilica of Santa Maria
Maggiore, it stands in a beautiful old park
among Roman ruins, centuries-old plants
and fountains, pine trees, palms and laurels.
Here you can admire the small but charming
Hunting Lodge, full of rich decorations. In
the palace you'll find enchanting banquet
rooms where Princess Mary Elisabeth
Brancaccio gave sumptuous parties. Roman
Holiday was filmed inside the halls of the
Palazzo Brancaccio. Enjoy a traditional lunch
in a famous restaurant where Audrey
Hepburn and Gregory Peck often dined,
hiding from photographers and curious
locals. A traditional Italian lunch will be
served, and here you will also see the original
Vespa that took Princess Ana and her beloved
journalist around the Eternal City. After
lunch, you will drive past the Colosseum and
catch a glimpse of the Roman Forum before
reaching the Mouth of Truth which,
according to legend, will bite your hand off if
you lie. Lastly, board your coach for the
return trip to Civitavecchia.

Brancaccio is not possible due to unforeseen
circumstances, guests will enjoy a quick
photo stop at St. Angel’s Castle and will also
visit the Crypt of Santa Maria in Cosmedin.

The Vatican's Sacred
Scenes
Departs: 7:00 AM
Approximately 11 Hours
Price $549.95
Relax during a 1½-hour journey by minibus
to the center of Rome. Your guide will give
you a map and help you to plan your
approximately 3½ hours of free time in the
wonderful city of Rome. After your free time,
re-board your minibus for a transfer to the
Vatican. Your private Vatican tour begins at
the Porta di Bronzo, the Bronze Gate, on
Viale Vaticano. Once inside, you will visit the
Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica,
including the most interesting "off the beaten
track" hidden corners, as well as special
sections closed to the general public. First you
will visit the Cappella Niccolina, the private
worship place of the Pope. Under Nicholas V
(1447-55) the Vatican became a court of the
muses—the Pope was an art-lover and in
1448 asked the famous painter Fra Angelico
to embellish this private chapel. Three walls
are covered with frescoes representing scenes
from the lives of St Stephen and St Lawrence,
two archdeacons who had been widely
venerated in Rome since the early Middle
Ages. Fra Angelico was able to accomplish
this considerable amount of work only with
the assistance of a large workshop, including
Benozzo Gozzoli. Next, you will admire the
Carriage Museum, founded by Paul VI in
1973. It is located in a large room under the
Square Garden and contains saddles,
carriages, automobiles and sedan chairs used
by the various popes. Curiosities include
some 19th-century carriages, a model of
Vatican City’s first train engine (1929) and a
Berlin built for Leo XII, used by popes for
gala occasions until the tenure of Pius XI.
Continue your exclusive tour to the Room of
Tears. During the conclave for the election of
the new Pope, when finally one of the
cardinals obtains 50% plus one of the votes,
he is declared Pope; at this point he must
accept the assignment and choose his Papal
name. Then, he goes to a special dressing
room to don the Papal clothes. In this room,
he becomes the Pope and, due to the strong
emotions experienced there, this room is
called the Room of Tears (Sala del Pianto).
Proceed to the Pinacoteca, commissioned by
Pius IX in 1931 to house a collection of
paintings. Many of the paintings on exhibit
were taken to Paris by Napoleon in 1797, but
returned to Italy after the Congress of Vienna
(1815). The works, covering from the Middle
Ages to 1800, are set in chronological order in
eighteen rooms. Among the masterpieces you
will see the Raphael’s Crowning of the Virgin,
Madonna of Foligno and Transfiguration,
Leonardo’s St Jerome, and the Deposition
from the Cross by Caravaggio. After this
amazing viewing, proceed to another "off
limits" section of the Vatican Museums—the
Sala degli Ori where precious Etruscan jewels
dating back to the 8th century BC are
beautifully displayed. Finally, continue to St
Peter’s treasure room where you will be
amazed by a collection of precious objects
given for consecration of the Basilica.

Vesuvius erupted in AD 79, hot ash charred
or consumed all the wood of the structures in
Pompeii (Herculaneum's more famous
neighbor). Herculaneum's destruction was
the result of a flood of hot mud that buried,
sealed and protected entire buildings. This
means that today there are still marvelous
inlaid marble floors, mosaics, paintings, and
carbonized wood exposed to visitors. Explore
on foot with your guide. A stop at a local
cameo factory is included before you return
to the ship.

Meet your local guide at the pier and walk to
the nearby pier for a 50-minute hydrofoil
cruise to the island of Capri. Upon arrival,
take the funicular up to the town’s main
square—the famous Piazza Umberto—a
popular spot with the international jet-set.
From here, proceed on foot to the ruins of
Roman palace Villa Jovis, first heading along
Via le Botteghe followed by Via Fuorlovado,
Via Croce and Via Tiberio. Villa Jovis is the
most important of the island’s twelve
imperial villas built by Emperor Tiberius in
the 1st century AD. The villa, which covers an
area of more than 75,000 square feet,
dominates the promontory that extends from
Grotta Bianca Point to Caterola Point. After a
guided tour of these impressive ruins, walk
back to the main square for some free time to
enjoy a leisurely lunch (at your own expense)
and browse in the shops before returning to
the hydrofoil pier by funicular for the cruise
back to port.
Transfer by motor coach from the pier to the
city center of Naples, where your tour begins
at the Piazza del Gesù—the oldest part of
town. Admire the many local monuments
and step inside the beautiful churches of
Gesù Nuovo and Santa Chiara to marvel at
the complex mix of period architecture that
makes this square so visually stimulating.
Walk with your guide to Piazza San
Gaetano, where your underground
adventure begins. Naples is built from layer
upon layer of compacted volcanic ash and
rock. More than 100 feet below the bustling
streets of the modern-day city, you’ll discover
the deep and ancient silence of a lost world of
catacombs and caves, Roman roads and
markets, World War II air-raid shelters, early
Christian burial sites and faded frescoes and
mosaics. Slip back in time as you explore the
interconnected passageways beneath the
bustling Neapolitan streets. Finally, enjoy
some free time back above ground before rejoining the coach for the brief drive back to
the pier.

Vesuvius—the only volcano on the mainland
continent of Europe. From the village of
Boscotrecase, you will board a special

you will meet a vulcanologist guide for a
brief tour around the crater. Mount Vesuvius
is about six miles east of Naples, a short

landscape with the bay and Naples tucked
below. Vesuvius is best known for its
eruption in AD 79, leading to the destruction
of the Roman cities of Pompeii and
Herculaneum and the death of up to 25,000
people. It has erupted many times since and
is today regarded as one of the most
dangerous volcanoes in the world because of
the population of three million people living
nearby. The mountain has a tendency for
explosive (Plinian) eruptions. At the end of
this fascinating visit, you will return to the

time, the islet gradually emerged from the
sea. The island is just across from the town of
Perast, and its church contains 68
magnificent paintings by Tripo Kokolja, a
famous 17th-century artist from Perast. His
most famous painting, ten yards long, is The
Death of the Virgin. Perast is a sleepy
Baroque town with beautiful buildings dating

Ravenna (San Marino), Italy - Friday, August 30, 2013:
Bologna & Ferrara
Departs: 1:00 PM
Approximately 8 Hours
Adult $99.95; Child $89.95
Discover the two most important cities of the
region—Bologna and Ferrara. A 60-minute
drive from the pier brings you to
Bologna—one of the Italy’s oldest cities. First
an ancient Etruscan settlement, then Gallic
settlement, and then a Roman municipality,
Bologna proclaimed itself a Free
Commonwealth during the Middle Ages. In
the city's historical center, you will see many
ancient palaces and churches that underscore
the cultural relevance of Bologna over time.
You will walk to Piazza Maggiore at the very
heart of Bologna. Around this square are
Bologna's main sights—the Palazzo del
Podeste, the Palazzo Comunale and in the
adjoining Piazza del Nettuno, and the Palace
of King Enzo, built in 1244. You will also
admire the Neptune Fountain, the
masterpiece by sculptor Giambologna. The
most impressive building in the square is the
Basilica of San Petronio built between the
14th and17th centuries—one of the finest
examples of Gothic architecture in Italy.
Continuing along Via Archiginnasio, you will
see the palace that once served as a university
campus. Within its walls the University of
Bologna was founded in 1088. This is the
oldest existing university in Europe, and
indeed the oldest in the world in the context
of universities as we know them today. Then,
making your way to the splendid Santo
Stefano Basilica, you will discover a complex
of buildings erected between the 11th and
13th centuries. Proceed to one of the most
famous features of Bologna—the Leaning
Towers, where you will enjoy some free time
to explore on your own, do some shopping or
purchase lunch (at your own expense). Next,
your coach will bring you to the city of
Ferrara. From the coach park, you’ll walk to
the heart of Ferrara to see its cathedral. Built
between the 12th and 14th centuries, the
cathedral boasts a Romanesque-Gothic
façade, a 15th-century bell tower, a Baroque
interior, and a 16th-century apse. It is quite
the study in eclecticism. Continue your
walking tour to the four-towered, moatencircled castle built in 1385, which retains
the look and feel of a typical medieval fortress
despite being later adorned with marble
balconies and tower loggias associated with
the 15th century. You’ll have approximately
40 minutes of free time to explore the Old
Town on your own. Finally, re-board the
coach and return to the pier.
Please note: Travel time is approximately 1½
hours each way.
Custom: Bologna on Your Own
Departs: 1:00 PM
Approximately 7 Hours
Price $79.95
Depart from the pier by motor coach for a
scenic one hour drive to one of the oldest
Italian cities, Bologna. It was once an ancient
Etruscan village, then a Gallic settlement, and
finally a Roman municipality before
proclaiming itself a Free Common during the
Middle Ages. Within its walls was established
the University of Bologna, founded in 1088,
which is the oldest existing university in
Europe.
Upon arrival your escort will direct you to the
city's historical center, Piazza Maggiore, and
then you will have approximately 4.5 hours to
explore on your own. Your escort will give
you the meeting time and location.
Please note: This is unguided. Free time may
vary depending on traffic conditions. Cover
knees and shoulders if you plan to visit any
churches/cathedrals.
Marvelous Mosaics & A Taste of
Ravenna
Departs: 12:30 PM
Approximately 3½ Hours
Adult $99.95; Child $89.95
Ravenna’s cultural monuments bear witness
to the succession of three civilizations. Visit
Sant’Apollinare Nuovo Basilica built in the
early 6th century and view its Arian and
Byzantine mosaics. These include the
Procession of Martyrs and the Procession of
Virgins. At the Chiesa di San Vitale Basilica,
completed in AD 547, you will see the fine
Byzantine mosaics that decorate its choir and
apse. Snap a few photos of the Mausoleum of
Theodoric and view the Roman mosaic at the
Tomb of Galla Placida. These mosaics date
back to antiquity and are in fact the oldest in
Ravenna, although it is hard to believe
because their colors are so rich and vivid.
Completed in AD 520, the decagonal
mausoleum is built of Istrian stone and the
roof is carved from a single thick piece of
stone some 32 feet in diameter. Next, at
Enoteca in the historic center of Ravenna,
you will sample the local gastronomic
specialty—ham- and cheese-flavored piadine
(flat bread) and a glass of regional wine. At
the end of your tour, you can remain in town
if you wish; returning to the ship will then be
your own responsibility.
Please note: Modest attire is required; knees,
shoulders and midriffs must be covered.
Shorts are not allowed. Shops are closed on
Thursday afternoons and Sundays in
Ravenna. On Sundays and church holidays,
tour groups are not allowed inside the
churches during services. However, time
permitting and if the church permits, entry
may be allowed on an individual basis to view
the interior quietly. Your guide will not be
allowed to enter with you.
Racing Legends: The Ferrari
Museum
Departs: 2:00 PM

Adult $104.95; Child $99.95
This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity takes you
to the holy grail of motor sports—the factory
museum at Ferrari. The Ferrari Museum is
located in Modena, immediately adjacent to
the factory and the celebrated Fiorano test
track. Step inside this amazing facility and
immerse yourself in tracing the history and
heritage the world’s premier sports car brand.
The museum features multimedia displays,
exhibits, trophies and, of course, Ferraris. The
cars range from the single-seater in which
Froilan Gonzalez won Ferrari’s first world
championship in 1951, to the latest all
conquering F-1 car used by Michael
Schumacher. Classic sports cars and today’s
supercars are on display.

Ravenna Mosaics & Dante's Tomb
Departs: 2:30 PM
Approximately 3½ Hours
Adult $74.95; Child $64.95
Experience Ravenna on a guided walking
tour. Visit Chiesa di San Vitale, the 6thcentury octagonal basilica in Ravenna
renowned for the fine Byzantine mosaics that
decorate its choir and apse. The adjacent
Tomb of Galla Placidia contains the oldest
mosaics in Ravenna. It is a real jewel in the
crown of Ravenna as the mosaics’ colors are
incredibly rich and vivid. View the walls of
Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, adorned with both
Arian and Byzantine mosaics, including the
Procession of Virgins and the Procession of
Martyrs. The Ostrogoth King Theodric built
the basilica in the early 6th century. You will
also see Dante’s Tomb. Exiled from Florence,
Italy’s great poet resided in Ravenna. After
Dante’s death in 1321, some of his ashes were
entombed here—the Florentines
unfortunately misplaced the rest! Every year a
delegation from Florence comes to pay
homage. After your walking tour, enjoy free
time for independent sightseeing or
shopping. Visit the town’s other monuments
and mosaics, or enjoy lunch or a cappuccino
at a café (at your own expense); then return
to the ship.
Please note: Modest attire is required; knees,
shoulders and midriffs must be covered.
Shorts are not allowed. Shops are closed on
Thursday afternoons and Sundays in

General Information
guides, services & transportation:
In certain interesting but off-the-beaten-track
places, professional guides and vehicles are at a
premium. The best available are engaged. For
all tours other than the Signature Collection, it
is exceptional for drivers of public hire vehicles
to speak any language but their own and it is
not always possible to obtain air-conditioned
buses or taxis in many ports. However, we
do our utmost to find the very best excursion
packages for your touring pleasure. Guests who
leave during a tour for which transportation
is included must there-after provide for their
own transportation and services at their own
expense. Transportation standards vary from
country to country.
self-guided excursions:
Guests who do not join these prearranged shore
excursions must rely on whatever transportation is available in each port. If you choose to
devise your own excursion, we suggest that you
remind the driver or tour escort of the ship’s
sailing time. Of course, the ship’s facilities are
fully available to guests while in port.
conditions:
Shore excursions are “Non-Holland America
Line Services” for the purposes of your Cruise
Contract. This means that shore excursions are

whatever terms or arrangements are made by
you or on your behalf with the third party furnishing the Non-Holland America Line Services.
Holland America Line does not assume liability
for injuries or damages that occur during or
as a result of shore excursions, nor is Holland
America Line liable for loss of or damage to any
baggage or other property which occurs ashore,
for any reason whatsoever. Shore excursions
are subject to cancellations or changes. Shore
excursion operators reserve the right to deny
participation to guests based on such criteria as
they may establish. Children under 18 must be
accompanied by a parent or responsible adult
aged 21 or older.

are subject to a 10% cancellation fee. There
will be no exceptions. In addition, if you cancel
your tour reservation after the booking deadline
stated in the Shore Excursion Planning Form on

cancellation of overland adventures and
overnight tours:
of cruising or while on board are not covered by
the Cancellation Protection Plan and are subject
to the above penalties. In the event a complete
tour is cancelled by Holland America Line or
the tour operator, pre-booked refunds will
be handled on board. Very shortly after each
booking deadline/cancellation date, e-mails are
sent from the ship to the agencies concerned,
informing them of our definite requirements for
meals, seats on aircraft, number of automobiles
and motor coaches, etc., and commitments are
made. If notice of cancellation is received after
the booking deadline/cancellation date, a refund
can be assured only if the ticket is resold. Guests
are encouraged to pre-purchase shore excursions. We recommend speaking with the Shore
Excursion Manager on board if you have any
questions about your physical ability to take
part in any shore excursion. Should you opt
not to take the tour following this discussion,
