Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann Craobh Niall Ó Cathasaigh January 2015 Eanair 2015 Volume 6, Issue 1 Fleadh Cheoil Chorcaí 2015, Ballincollig, May 7th — 10th Ballincollig branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann, Craobh Niall Ó Cathasaigh is delighted to announce that the County Fleadh Cheoil will be held in Ballincollig, May 7th -10th. The branch has previously hosted Fleadh Cheoil Chorcaí on two occasions in 1992 and 2009 and Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan in 2011. We look forward to this event which will coincide with our celebration of forty years of Comhaltas in Ballincollig. News in Brief Craobh Niall Ó Cathasaigh Celebrates 40th Birthday Fleadh Cheoil Chorcaí, Ballincollig Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan, Nenagh Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, Sligo Officers for Fleadh Cheoil Chorcaí are:- Chairperson, Diarmuid Ó Cathasaigh; Vice Chairperson, Dónal Ó Cróinín; Secretary, Helen Kelly; Treasurers, Teresa Purcell and Theresa Dennehy; PRO Noreen McCarthy. Craobh Niall Ó Cathasaigh Celebrates 40th birthday 2015 is a very significant year for the branch as Craobh Niall Ó Cathasaigh celebrates 40 years of Comhaltas in Ballincollig. The branch was founded on 31st January 1975. From humble beginnings, it has grown from strength to strength and now boasts a large membership of both adults and children. The branch has always been active and since its foundation boasts an unbroken record of events held every Monday night to promote the aims & objectives of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. Celebrations will be held throughout 2015 to mark this milestone in the history of the branch. Sean Nós Classes with Dick Beamish—Tuesday nights in The White Horse — 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Set Dancing for people with Parkinson's with Helen Kelly and Comhaltas Volunteers—Tuesday mornings —11:30 to 12:30 in the annex behind the Ballincollig Community Hall. Music Classes for juniors and adults are held weekly in Coláiste Choilm, Gaelscoil Uí Ríordáin, Scoil Eoin & Scoil Mhuire. Singing Classes with Máire Ní Chéilleachair are held weekly in Coláiste Choilm. Second Sunday Session - Ceol Cois Tine with Jerry Ahern and friends. Traditional music session is held on the second Sunday of each month by the fireplace in The White Horse, Ballincollig, 8:30 to 10:30pm. Musicians, dancers and listeners welcome. Come along and enjoy a great night of Ceol agus Craic. Echoes of Erin Comhghairdeas to Dick Beamish, Fear a’Tí on a very successful Comhaltas tour of Canada last October. We wish him well for the Echoes of Erin Comhaltas Concert Tour of Britain in February. Céilí Mór / Fleadh Cheoil Fundraiser Míle buíochas to everyone who attended the Céilí Mór last November and supported the first Fleadh Cheoil Chorcaí fundraiser. It was a fantastic night with twenty sets on the dance floor. All the favourite sets were danced, the Sliabh Luachra, Caledonian, Baile Bhúirne Jig, Cashel, Plain, Clare Lancers, Antrim Square and the céilí dance, Caidhp an Chúil Áird. Bhí an oíche thar barr with superb music played by Tim Joe and Anne. Thanks to everyone involved in organising what was a very successful céilí. Trad for Trócaire 2014 / Míle Buíochas The branch was once again delighted to be part of the Trad for Trócaire campaign held in September. The proceeds from the Set and Céilí class on September 29th were donated to Trócaire as part of this campaign. Míle buíochas to all dancers who donated generously on the night. The money raised amounted to €570. Leathanach 3 Seisiún 2014 — A Great Success Míle buíochas to everybody who attended Seisiún 2014 and experienced traditional Irish entertainment at its best. The branch was delighted to welcome visitors from throughout Ireland and abroad who truly enjoyed the taste of Irish culture. Thanks to the many local residents who came week after week to support Seisiún. Craobh Niall Ó Cathasaigh was delighted to have in attendance the President of Comhaltas, Vince Jordan and his wife Ann from Birmingham. Seisiún will be held again next July and August and we look forward to your continued support. Community Spirit A concert was held in St Joseph's Hospital, Mount Desert in November and was enjoyed by patients, staff and visitors alike. It was especially good to see so many young musicians taking part. Ceol An Gheimhridh Comhghairdeas to Shane Scanlon, Meadhb Ní Shé and Kate Ní Shé who were successful at Ceol an Gheimhridh in Youghal last November. Best of luck to Shane and Meadhb at the Munster finals in Dromcolliher in February. Culture Night Oíche Amhránaíochta The Keane sisters, Anne and Ruben were guest singers at a recent ‘Oíche Amhránaíochta’ in Oriel House Hotel. It was a relaxed night of songs in Irish and English with an array of fine singers and interested listeners. It was ably coordinated by Fear a’Tí Dick Beamish who also was in fine voice on the night. A second singing night was scheduled for January 29th at 8:30 in Oriel House with guest singer Nell Ní Chrónín, winner of Corn Uí Riada 2014.
