Wood is a truly unique material. Unlike all the other materials we know, it
is composed of cells, which used to be part of living trees. Primitive peoples
identified wood as a valuable material for building and making fires. But
even today, we still appreciate the properties of this “magical” resource, which
surrounds us everywhere: every day we can see wooden furniture, fittings,
joinery or large-size structures (rafter framing production halls and shopping
centres, huge roof beams at indoor pools, timber frames for residential
buildings). We enjoy the shade trees provide us in the summer and seek the
warmth of fire in the winter. It would be hard to find anyone in the world who
does not like looking at a fire and listening to the crackle of burning wood…

There is something
magical
about it…
Wood is environmentally friendly, durable and safe at
the same time. It radiates positive energy and as such,
promotes good health. The smell of wood is magical
as well. The resin and essential oils which are present
in wood emit a wonderful, natural scent, which is most
noticeable just after felling a tree or sawing timber. The
fresh aroma can also be felt in any room with wood
products in it. But the main reason for using wood at
home are its aesthetic, acoustic and thermal insulation
properties, and a relatively high heat capacity (wood does
not heat up as quickly as other materials). We have found
no suitable alternative for wood so far. Towards the end
of the 20th century, it was believed that wood would be
driven from the furniture industry in 90% by substitutes,
such as chemically-made materials and engineered wood
products (mainly particle boards, MDF boards, etc.). But
the choice of materials is an essential part of the furniture
construction process, as its quality determines the quality,
durability and aesthetic properties of the final product,
as well as its functional properties. The most valuable,
top-quality furniture is made of solid wood or with the use
of natural veneers. With this in mind, the Klose company
remains true to its tradition of selecting materials based
on wood and its derivatives. The use of natural materials
is one of the strengths of our brand’s furniture collections.

BEECH – firm, high-grade wood. Its main advantage is
that it can be easily worked and covered with stain of any
colour, varnish and natural oil without losing its natural
properties. Beech wood furniture is characterised by high
quality which lasts for years.
OAK – recognised as a symbol of great strength and
durability. Incidentally, oak has been used in shipbuilding.
It is one of the most valuable industrial wood types. The
natural colour of oak lends a unique quality to furniture,
which maintains its beautiful appearance for a long time.
Oak furniture is a perfect choice.
ASH – worth mentioning, if only because of its unique
colour. The naturally light colour of ash and its soft,
regular growth rings make it a noteworthy type of wood.
Ash is very demanding. Due to its properties, it can only
be covered with varnish. Suitably protected, it will retain its
appearance for years to come.
BLACK WALNUT – considered a premium Heartwood,
rather exotic in Poland. Thanks to its distinctive, dark
colour, interesting growth rings and excellent qualities,
it is a highly prized industrial wood. Due to the wood’s
properties, furniture made of black walnut is covered with
natural oil. Black walnut products are positioned in the
premium segment, mainly because of their colour, which
gives them unique appeal.
According to regulations, for furniture to be considered
solid wood furniture, all its elements apart from the back
wall and drawer bottoms in the case of cabinet furniture
must be made of wood.
Solid wood is a guarantee of high quality, durability and
outstanding longevity. Products made of particle board,
plywood and veneered board cannot be considered solid
wood furniture!

Wood
Before wood can be used for making furniture, it must be
suitably prepared. The preparation phase does not only
involve wood processing: it is also necessary to obtain all
the required certificates confirming the quality of the wood
and certifying that it can be used for a particular purpose.
The wood material is seasoned and dried to hold only the
desired moisture content. This is particularly important if
the wood is going to be used for items of everyday use,
such as furniture. We only select the highest grade wood.
The quality of wood is assessed according to a four-grade
classification, and only the wood classified as grade one
is suitable for furniture production. This grade guarantees
that the end product will serve its owners for generations.
There has been an increasing interest in organic food;
the demand for organic furniture may well become
another market-changing trend. Wood that is harvested
and becomes a furniture-making material first grows as
a living plant which releases oxygen into the atmosphere.
There are a number of special plantations operated in
line with sustainable tree planting and logging strategies,
which help to reduce uncontrolled deforestation. But the
eco-friendliness of wooden furniture has many other
aspects. Thanks to its durability, a piece of furniture will
serve for years once manufactured, saving both money
and natural resources. Wooden furniture can be used
for several generations, which means there is no need
to make new furniture and deplete resources for its
production for a very long time. Besides, eco-furniture is
usually covered with colour wood stains based on natural
components, which cause no allergies and are neutral to
the environment. The use of varnishes is very rare. All this
means that when buying organic furniture, we contribute
to environmental protection and receive a number of
benefits at the same time: such furniture causes no allergic
reactions, offers lasting durability and, above all, is always
unique.
