- Thaksin Shinawatra was the 23rd prime minister of
Thailand
- He was a prime minister during 2001 to 2006
Background
- Born in business family in Chaing mai.
- He graduated as a police officer in Thailand.
- Awarded government scholarship to study in USA
for master and PHD in criminal justice in 1979.
- He served as a police officer again.
- He married to Phojaman Danuphong. He has a son
and two daughters.

- Initial trading business in Thai silk.
- Pac link service in 1979.
- Later expanded business in telecommunication, satellite (Shin satellite), and
mobile phone services (AIS).
- His companies awarded government license
and concession on taxes for 30 years.
- Within 10 years his assets increased from 200
million to 50 billion.

Thaksin in Politics
- In 1994, he joined politics with Phalang
Dhamma Party and served as Deputy Prime
Minister of Thailand.
- In 1998 he established his own Thai Rak Thai
party.
- In 2001, his party won the election and he
became prime minister.
- In 2006, military coup took place to
overthrow Thaksin and he remained in self exile abroad in UK since 2006.

- In 2007, he purchased Manchester city
Football Club in UK at 81.6 million pounds.
Later he was dismissed as president of club
following his conviction in Thailand.
- Currently living in Dubai with access to
about 100 million dollars of his own assets
outside of Thailand.
- Currently investing in gold mines, diamond
polishing and lottery licenses in various
countries.
- Red shirt people are very loyal to him and his
family.
