Quarterly Newsletter January, February, March 2012
Quarterly Newsletter January, February, March 2012 W elcome AZ ARVC Members, As most of you know, I took over the position of Executive Director on January 1, 2012. I will be emailing you periodic information that I receive so that you can keep up with the pulse of the RV Industry in both Arizona and Nationally. I hope that you are enjoying all the updates. The newsletters that will be coming your way each quarter will more than likely be information that you’ve already received but in case you missed it, you will be able to read it again. Jo Ann, Executive Director We are pleased to have Jo Ann working for the Association as our Executive Director. She and The Board have been working hard to make necessary changes not only to the structure of AZ ARVC but to the web site. I hope that all of you have had the opportunity to look at your web page on GoCampingInArizona.com and send us any changes that need to be made. The new Directory is in the process and I encourage each of you to consider a small ad to support it. The Arizona Board and I wish to extend to all our members and potential members a good and successful 2012. Please let me know if I can answer any of your questions or concerns. Thank you for your support. Governance: ADA updates and current information. The deadline for Pool Lifts has been extended for 60 days to May 15, 2012. Thanks to all who responded and wrote letters on behalf of the Industry. Take a breather and wait for more news on this in the near future. Senate Bill 1438: Drug Labs This concerns RV Parks for two reasons: 1. It describes an RV as Real Property (which it isn’t) 2. The bill makes the property owner responsible for the remediation of the clean up associated with the Drug Labs found in RV’s or Mobile Homes. I have been in contact with Susan Brenton of MHC who is working closely with the State Board of Technical Registration to get this changed. She is confident that the definition will be changed which will eliminate the need for Remediation unless it’s found on the ground. The cost of this process is between $5000 & $7000 per incident. The moral of the story: Don’t rent to shady characters! 3. Arizona Centennial: We participated in the Feb 11 & 12 Celebration in downtown Phoenix. Thanks to all of you who sent in brochures. We gave out a ton of them for you. It was fun and we got a new AZ ARVC member. We even got our own Bob Stafford of Green Acres RV Park on TV. Way to go, Bob! 3. Let us know if we need to make any changes for you on your personal page. [email protected] TIPS for 2012 and BEYOND 1. The customer is looking for value. There seems to be an increased demand for package vacations. Have you thought about putting together a week-end package with a stay in your park and theater tickets? Or an attraction entrance? Or a hot air balloon adventure? Consider a one price gets it all. 2. Give an extra discount for certain days of the week. for the price of one. Two days 3. Be customer friendly. Help the customer find that restaurant or attraction or call a cab for them. 4. Customers are looking for local restaurants, gift ideas, attractions. Make up a list of these places to visit where the locals go. 5. Evaluate your current programs and services. Why provide a welcome package to your guests if it is not valued or used by your guests? That includes your recreational activities. 6. Attend the State and National conventions. There are many seminars where classes are taught by professionals who have years of experience in the RV Business. It is guaranteed that you will come away with at least one good money saving idea! 7. Read, Research and Learn: Check out the publication “The RV Consumer: A Demographic Profile 2011 Survey” available at www.rvia.org in the publication area. 8. Take a look at 2011. Write down your accomplishments. That gets you into a positive mood and ready to think about what you’d like to achieve in 2012. 9. Quiz: What is known as “the 5 C’s of Arizona”?
