EXERCISE & WELLNESS
It’s not about the DESTINATION . The HABITS that took years to BUILD don’t take a day to change . If you hate
starting over then STOP QUITTING . Attitude is everything . You’re only one workout away from a GOOD MOOD
. Our HEALTH always seems much more valuable after we lose it . You only regret the WORKOUTS you don’t do .
ChooseYOUR day . Don’t make excuses, MAKE progress . Make one healthy choice, then make ANOTHER one . Make
things HAPPEN . Today I do what others wont so tomorrow I can do what others can’t . BE the CHANGE. Be FIERCE .

PARK RENTALS
TREE PROGRAM
caring for young trees
DURING A DROUGHT
How much water does my young tree need?
It is imperative that young, small trees continue to be watered regularly during
dry winter months. Five to ten gallons per week is recommended for a young
tree.
During dry weather medium trees require water as well, however, weaning
them slowly will help them adapt to their environment. Check the moisture of
the soil to determine when your medium tree needs water.
How often do I need to water?
Where can I find information on the Parks available for rent in West
Sacramento?
You can go to the Parks & Recreation page of the City’s website,
www.westsacfun.org or you can call 617-4620.
Do I need to rent a Park for a basic picnic of 25 people?
No, a group of less than 50 people will not require a park rental as long as there
are no special circumstances such as a bounce house, alcohol or amplified
sound. You can just show up & use an area, provided it has not been rented by
another party.
What is the park rental process?
Call us at 617-4620 to see if the park/picnic area you want is available for rental.
Turn in a completed Park Rental Application to the Parks & Recreation
Department.
In certain circumstances, a Special Event (SE) Notification or SE Permit
may be required. Notification/Permit application & fee processing is done
at the Police Department, located at 550 Jefferson Blvd. The criteria which
would trigger the need for a SE Notification or Permit can be found on the
Police Department’s web page under Special Events or by calling the Police
Department at 617-4900. Please allow sufficient time for permit approval.
Both forms can be downloaded on the city’s website or picked up at the
Community Center, located at 1075 West Capitol Avenue. A picnic area can be
held with a refundable deposit & minimum 30 day notice. Once the event has
been approved, you will need to provide the necessary insurance forms & fees
prior to the day of the event. Cancellations must be done 14 days prior to the
event in order to receive a return of the deposit.
Frequency depends on the temperature, shade cover, and presence of mulch.
The best rule of thumb is “water when the ground feels dry 6-8 inches below
the surface.” Watering once a week is usually enough with the current climate
conditions.
Trees don’t like soil that is constantly wet – it is best to let the ground dry out
between watering. As the temperature increases water more frequently, check
the moisture of the soil to determine the tree water needs.
What’s the best method to water my young tree?
The best way to help focus the water on the tree’s roots is to form a small
temporary earthen berm/watering well around the tree, about 2 -3 feet in
diameter and about 4-6 inches high, and fill it slowly by putting a garden hose
near the base of the trunk and set it at a slow trickle so it flows over the rootball, and as trees get larger outside the edge of the rootball where roots are
present. To figure out how long to leave the hose on, fill one 5-gallon bucket
with your hose on a trickle and time how long it takes to fill. A drip irrigation
system is also good or a soaker hose spiraled over the root area around the
trunk.
If you are using gray water, pour it into a 5-gallon bucket with small holes in
the bottom and set it at the base of the tree. This will allow the water to be
delivered slowly to the tree’s roots. Watering too fast will waste water because
it will run away from the root area of the tree.

I would like to rent a picnic area this weekend for 75 people & we
want to have a bounce house. What do I need to do?
An event such as this would require a completed park rental & Special Event
Notification. In addition to the rental fees, deposit & insurance, you will need
special insurance from the bounce house company in order to cover its use.
Please make arrangements at least 30 days in advance for paperwork
processing.
