A Letter From Mrs. Egan Regarding Class Assignments
Dear Parents,
The classroom lists for the new school year will be published on my Teacherweb page,
http://teacherweb.com/PA/SaintsPeterandPaulSchool/MargaretEgan/newsflash.aspx, on August 15th.
Every school has its own way of generating these lists. Some schools are too small to have the excitement of,
Who will be your new homeroom teacher? Which of your friends will be in your homeroom? The procedure for generating the promotion lists begins in May and continues through June. While parents on occasion request in writing a particular teacher for their child, we cannot guarantee that their request will be feasible.
After the Instructional Support Teams (IST) meet at the end of the year, some students are assigned to teachers who are suited for those particular students’ academic or behavioral needs. In addition, the students fill
out an index card that names friends who they wish will be in their class. Then, the teachers in each grade create index cards for each of their students which are then separated into boy/girl order. An A list is compiled
of the students who need extra challenges and a B list is compiled of the students who might need extra help.
The cards are shuffled and distributed evenly. They also consider personality dynamics and gender balance.
Finally, the teachers check the lists to make sure that each student has one good buddy in his/her classroom
for the new year. These lists are given to the principal for review and other adjustments are made to include
new students. Once the lists have been published on August 15th, there will be no more changes.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Margaret Egan
