Town of Oak Island Fire and Rescue Operates 3 stations Station 1-Located 101 E. Oak Island Dr. Station one has 24 hour staffing of 3 firefighter/EMTs 1 Fire Chief Monday through Friday business hours 1 Part time administrative assistant Operates 1 Aerial Ladder, 1 Ambulance, 1 Heavy Rescue, 1 Beach/Support Truck 2009 Rosenbauer 75 ft aerial ladder 500 Gallon Tank 1500 gpm Pump 6 Man cab Fully ALS equipped 2005 Freightliner commercial chasis 500 Gallon tank 1000 gpm capacity 2 Person cab Heavy rescue state certified, carrying a full compliment of heavy rescue tools Light tower Onboard class A foam tank. 2009 Ford F450 Fully ALS equipped Equipped with MARVLIS (MDT) and GPS call routing Station 2-Located 8510 E. Oak Island Dr. Currently houses the Yaupon Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Oak Island Fire Reserve Ladder 2 Also houses the Brunswick County EMS ambulance, Base 7 Has no fire department full time staff or medical personnel associated with Oak Island Station 3-Located 4151 Vanessa Dr. Station three is staffed with 3 full time firefighter/EMTs 24 hours a day 1 Assistant Chief/Training Chief Monday through Friday during business hours Operates 1 Engine, 1 Squad, 1 Platform Aerial Ladder 2000 E One 1000 Gallon tank 1250 gpm pump capacity 6 Person cab Onboard class A foam tanks Fully ALS equipped 1999 E One 95 ft Platform aerial 500 Gallon tank 1500 gpm pump capacity 5 Person cab 2009 Ford F450 Fully ALS equipped Equipped with MARVLIS (MDT) and GPS call routing Oak Island Fire and rescue provides fire, ALS medical, and heavy rescue response capabilities with 24 hours a day/7 days a week staffing 20 Full time staff 6 Full time personnel daily operating (3) 24-hour shifts 0800-0800 2 Chief officers working Monday-Friday 10 Part time staff 4 Volunteer staff Oak Island Fire and Rescue also provides fire inspections, CPR classes for the public, fire extinguisher classes, and is a certified car seat safety check station. Staff Certification All full time staff are required to be NC Firefighter I&II NC Class B driver license, Driver operator pumps, Driver operator aerials Hazardous materials operations Rescue technician general NIMS compliant to ICS 400 standard 8 Full time NC EMT-Paramedics, 5 part time medics 7 Full time NC EMT-Intermediates, 2 PT Intermediates 2 Full Time NC EMT-Basics, 2 Part Time NC EMT-Basics In addition to general training requirements, several staff are certified in advanced topics such as structural collapse, high angle ropes, confined space, advanced vehicle extrication, water rescue, land search, fire code inspection, and arson investigation. Oak Island Fire Inspections Division currently operates 1 Level III fire inspector 3 Level I fire inspectors 4 Probationary level I inspectors This function annually helps to generate revenue for the Town of Oak Island. Oak Island Fire and Rescue is a regional heavy rescue provider with 16 Technical rescue general certified staff 7 Specialized confined space rescue staff 3 Specialized structural collapse rescue staff 3 Specialized trench rescue staff 6 Specialized wilderness search and rescue staff 8 Specialized high angle rope rescue staff 1 Specialized agricultural rescue staff All staff are required to obtain specialized water rescue training More staff certifications 14 Fire Officer Level I 9 Fire Officer Level II 1 Fire Officer Level III 3 Chief 101 1 Fire Investigator 7 Certified Fire or EMS instructors Oak Island Fire and Rescue staff must meet mandatory yearly continuing education training hours in specified topics and are required to train on a monthly basis. They include Monthly EMS topics Infection Control Fire and Rescue Instructor Updates Inspector Updates Training isn’t all that is required of the staff All paid staff must pass a rigorous yearly medical physical based on the NFPA 1582 standards Yearly SCBA fit testing Yearly job related physical agility test In 2012 Oak Island Fire and Rescue responded to 1,178 emergency requests 892 Emergency Medical Requests 286 Fire Related Responses 27 were working building or structure related fires 3 vehicle fires 14 grass or brush fires 242 Alarms with no fire Oak Island Fire and Rescue had an average response time to all incident types in all areas of its primary response district, and mutual aid districts of 6 min 31 sec from the time of dispatched to time of arrival. In addition to emergency response, staff conduct several hundred hours of service and support work every year, including Annual hydrant testing, maintenance, and inspection for more than 800 town hydrants Hose, ladder, and pump tests, and light maintenance Annual business fire inspections, and business preplanning School fire education and fire safety programs Special event medical standby Smoke alarm installation and assisting with battery changing Daily truck and equipment detailed inspections Some of our recent events and training!
